This is a tough one. I honestly don't feel comfortable rating this book because it's essentially a fanfiction of The Deal by Elle Kennedy. I did read the whole thing and enjoy it, but the plots were nearly identical with a few relationships just slightly altered. Had this been a more original work it would have easily been at the very least a 3 star read for me, if not a 4.
If you haven't read The Deal (or this book) and don't want spoilers stop reading now.
In both books the girl is not a fan of the campus hockey star, in this book the hero saves the heroine from an uncomfortable encounter with an ex and they start a fake relationship which the hero immediately tacks on her tutoring him and sexual relations to give the heroine 'more experience'. In The Deal the heroine gets roped into tutoring the hero in exchange for a fake relationship so she can make the guy she wants jealous, she ends up coming to him for sexual help because she can't orgasm due to past sexual assault. Both hero's live with 4 hockey friends, the opening scene in this book was sooo similar to The Deal it's crazy. Cooper with the sex chair and exhibitionism in the living room? Dean all the way. Sounding similar? It is. This book was basically The Deal without the super traumatic parts namely the heroine's past sexual assault and the hero's abusive father. Speaking of father's in both books the dad's are ex-hockey pro's who end up convincing the heroine to dump the hero, and both remarried after their wives died while the hero was still a kid/teen. If there were one or two similarities, okay, but this plot was so parallel to The Deal it was ridiculous. That said I did enjoy the authors writing, the characters were lovable and I liked their story it just wasn't theirs unfortunately... Something I appreciated that this author brought to the table though was talking about learning disabilities and the effects of divorce on older children. My parents got a divorce when I was 19 and I felt like my feelings weren't valid, I was grown up, off at college it shouldn't have affected me that much, but it had really deep implications on my life and not dealing with it properly definitely contributed to my anxiety and depression making themselves known. Anyways, I'm disappointed because like I said I did enjoy the book, but I can't in good conscience give credit to this author, unfortunately.
