WHO AM I? My name is Jack Steen and for those who arrive on my 'death' ward at the Asylum, I'm the last face many will see before they die. I am the night nurse at the Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Most of my patients are serial killers and mass murderers and they know me as the Angel of Death. When they come onto my floor, I offer a tell me their story, their 'untold' story that hasn't been read about in the news, sensationalized by media or cataloged in a ridiculous number of academic papers. I want the real story - the one they haven't old anyone. Some of these killers have never confessed to their crimes, some kept certain information to themselves...those are the stories I want.If they give them to me, I'll make their death...easier. They're already dying, that's why they're now my patients. If they play nice, I can make their death less painful. But only if they play nice and tell me their confessions. The majority of these killers are expert manipulators. I realize they could be playing me and messing with my head. It's a chance I'm willing to take. And now...they might just be playing with yours too.Fans of Stephen King, Joe Hill and like to read books like The Bird Box, The Haunting and can't get enough stories about serial killers are going to enjoy reading the deathbed confessions from The There is swearing in this book. And some stories might be a trigger for something you have a hard time handling. But, these are the confessions of serial killers, mass murderers an
"Some confessions wear on me. Others don't affect me at all." - Farmer Joe's confession deeply affected me. I found myself recoiling and feeling a sense of disdain throughout the entire read.
The confessions in this second installment were truly shocking, yet despite that, I couldn't resist continuing to read. It's strangely captivating, enticing me in the most delicious way imaginable!
Although the writing may not be exceptional, it's worth noting that the Jack Steen explicitly mentions in the foreword that he is not a writer, only sharing his thoughts.
It’s safe to say some of these confessions might bring a tear to your eye. The stories aren’t always on the gory side. Well written and good character development. LOTS of grammatical errors and simply wrong words. I gave up highlighting them.
Another sick and twisted read—loved it! ❤️ This book continues the chilling tradition of patients confessing their darkest crimes in exchange for a less painful death at the asylum. This time, the focus is on killer families, and the stories are just as disturbing and fascinating as ever.
I listened to this book and I also read it!! I definitely love these book series. This book is about a man named Jack who works in an asylum. He writes stories about people that are on their deathbed. His deal is for them to tell him the story they never told anyone. Talk about a killer deal right ? Who can pass that up. There is always one story I’ve listened to in the series that makes me cry and that story was about “Mary”. Her story was so beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. Definitely give this series a listen or a read you won’t be disappointed.
Jack is back with a second lot of asylum confessions, this time based around family. Four dark stories that had me gripped from the start, absolutely brilliant series.
Every time I finish one of those I make a mental note to never read the next one because the storylines drag on sooo much! Then a month will go by and I’ll forget, and read the next one. Here’s to next month I guess! 😒🤧
Jack Steen has quickly become my go to nightly read when I’m trying to go to bed. The characters in his books feel so real that he makes you question if this is funny toon or not. I did have the same problem with this book as the first in that I felt it could have used some editing but I did love it regardless.
While it is true that Jack Steen ain't no writer, as he himself warns at the beginning of each book, sometimes the grammar mistakes made it a little hard to understand some sentences. The real reason why I'm taking off a star, though, is because these stories didn't impact me half as much as the ones in the first volume. Still a great read!
Another brilliant compilation of confessions of the criminally insane on their deathbeds.
There is just something quite depraved about these books which disturb me to great lengths but also draw me in a way that I just can’t stop reading them.
The crimes in a couple of confessions in this one were not as sinister as some of the others but were still powerful pertaining to the effect they had on me with mesmerising story telling and Jack’s comments as well.
I am waiting for the #6 book to be available on KU asap because I already need my next dose.
Listened to on audio on my way to my parents' place, and it was the perfect length on 1.5 speed - I literally finished as I was pulling into their driveway!
I have similar thoughts on the writing to the first book: while it wasn't the greatest, it was fitting for the character whose point of view it is written from, and is somewhat mitigated by the fact that I listened via audio.
The narrator continued to do a great job in subtly changing his voice tone, accent, etc, to indicate a different character, and kept me engaged throughout.
The first book was better. The stories were more suspenseful and intriguing in the first one. This book’s stories weren’t as interesting. I’ll still give the next book in the series a try.
“I think Death has many faces, many voices, and it all depends on the person you are, and what you've done with your life.” Jack Steen, you’ve done it again 👏 Although, sadly, this was a 3 star read 😔 Some of the confessions felt very recycled from the first one, some where slightly unbelievable, and over all… the first one was better. Still a good book, though 👍
Man, I'm kind of mad at myself for putting off reading this book for so long! Jack Steen is brilliant!
Asylum Confessions is a collection of "patient files" from the POV of a nurse at the asylum. Said nurse makes a deal with only a few patients as they're dying.. If they give him a "never before heard" confession, he will try to gift them a final wish. No big wishes.. just something small and feasible.. such as a freshly baked pizza or someone to sit with them as they pass.
These patients are all criminals and in this asylum for some disturbing and very dark reasons. This specific book focuses on family-based crimes. Such an interesting setup, and I can't wait to read the rest in the series!
I had to go straight onto the second book because I was hooked to the first one!
This time around we have four more stories but they are about killer families.
In the book we have stories from:
* Pops * Farmer Joe * Henry * Mary
Once again I was hooked, I need to get the others because I really enjoyed them. It's been a long time since I binge read a series back to back. These books are fantastic.
I really love getting to know the character Jack who gets told these confessions, we learn something new each book!
These books are addicting, I just binged this audiobook in one sitting. I don’t even care about the fact that there were obvious typos 😂 it’s such an interesting series, I can’t get enough!
Asylum Confessions #2 | Family Matters by Jack Steen 🔪🎧 ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
There's a unique kind of unsettling when a book is so gruesomely real, you start questioning if it's fiction at all. That's the whole, terrifying vibe of Asylum Confessions. Jack Steen doesn't write comfortable stories, he writes the ones that get under your skin and make it crawl.
It genuinely feels like you've unlocked a genuine murderer's private diary, and it scratches at your deepest fears. It’s intimate, dark, and uncomfortable... which is exactly why I’m obsessed. 🖤
Vibes Check: Set to The Wrecks' "Psycho Killer." The energy is just perfect for this twisted family saga. 💀

10000/5 book for me! Ugh, the stories were sooo good. Like I just felt so bad for the twin brothers. Just having your twin brother turn his back on you and then you have to deal with the consequences. NO MA’AM! And then the poor lady that lost her baby and had to kidnap other babies to fulfill the hole she had in her heart. Sooo sad even though it was totally wrong of her to take people’s children. The last story was even crazier! Did he have conjoined twins? Or was he really that crazy??? OMG. This book was just soooo freaking good. Totally recommend!

I did enjoy reading it and I think it's easy to read but it didn't catch me like the last part did.
It definetly had lots of bizarre parts in it and sometimes I had to stop for a minute to realise what I've just read but in my opinion it wasn't as good as the last book.
I will still read the next book and most likely finish the series but I'm hoping that the next stories will be slightly better told.
still 3 out of 5 stars 'cause it wasn't bad but not good enough for more, sorry.
I am obsessed with this series and writer. I find myself reading the full book in one sitting and tend to block out everything because I can’t wait to find out what happens next. Jack has a way of writing that just draws you in and doesn’t let you go until the last word. Highly recommend to anyone who likes horror/thriller books.
I really enjoyed this second set of deathbed confessions from the criminally insane. This installment focused on families.Like with the first book, I felt a mix of emotions—sympathy, disgust, curiosity. It was hard to put down because I was hooked on learning each patient’s secrets and how their pasts shaped who they became.
These are definitely entertaining, but I do think the first installment was better. This one was a little repetitive from the first and lost a bit of its momentum towards the end, but I do love these and can’t wait to read the next!
I think this one had more typos than the first, more that I noticed anyway. The character of Mary reminded me of Bucket but the stories were very different. Her story, like Bucket broke me as I read with my newborn sleeping on my chest.
I think I have found my new favourite series, some of these confessions are heartbreaking but I just can’t stop reading them. Just a warning they are not for the faint hearted they can make your stomach turn.
I listen to these on road trips. There's just something about the narrators voice telling the stories that now I can't read them. I have to listen to them. I can't wait for the rest to come out on audio book because I am patiently waiting!
Another collection of confessions. I found this one easier to get through than the first book. The final confession got me, and brought tears to my eyes. I'll definitely be continuing on with this series.
