I uncover secrets no one wants me to find. Celebrities, international fugitives, even my neighbors. No one is off limits.
All I need is a name and a location, and the dirty things they try to hide will suddenly come to light.
My biggest fault? Believing I don’t need help, despite all the evidence to the contrary. And the one person capable of aiding me turns my body to Jell-O.
I don’t want to rely on Isaac Hayes to help me solve this puzzle. But the pieces don’t fit together, and we’re running out of time.
If I can’t set my pride aside and allow Isaac to help me, the ghosts of my past will take more from me than just my life.
This book is the second in the series and it is preferred to read the first one as there is some overlap and continuity despite it being based off different characters.
This story follows Lizzie and Isaac who were both first introduced in book 1. Both are hackers and kinda of had an annoyance at first sight. Basically coming down to their past and traumas and having a tough time getting involved or close with others.
Lizzy is highly independent so when she is recovering from a gun shot wound, she has a hard time accepting Isaacs help during her recovery. Despite the standoffishness Issac exudes in the first book, he is infatuated with Lizzy and her skills. Of course, Lizzy, while feeling the same, often has her walls raised sky high and has a difficult time opening up.
Over the course of time, their mission continues from the first book and are looking into who is in control of the sex trafficking ring and any and all evidence relating to it. Here come some twists and turns you for not see coming.
I loved Lizzy and Isaacs dynamic. How they met, how they come together, work together and so much more. Can’t wait to see how everything ties together in the third book that will focus on Thia and Jackson.
Lizzy tries to get in a more comfortable position and groans at the massive pain in her abdomen. Trying to ignore the pain she blinks her eyes open to see Issac sitting next to her bed. She looks at him in confusion. The medical equipment surrounding her lets her know she's in the hospital, but doesn't explain why the man who gets on her last nerve is sitting by her bed.
Her last memory was of sneaking through the underground tunnels into Yuri Solokov's mansion with Dax and Hailey to rescue Katya. Hailey had insisted they try to rescue her despite the billionaire scumbag she had as a brother.
They were hoping to find Katya at the mansion, but most importantly find the clues needed to tie the bratva leader to the human trafficking ring they were trying to take down. But before they could find any clues, Hailey found a very young woman bolted to the wall inside the closet of the master suite. Hailey had just gotten her to the exit to safety when Yuri caught them and had them brought to his office.
Then he drops the bomb...Hailey was his daughter. When he found out that Lizzy, known as Lizard by her friends, was the one responsible for keeping Hailey hidden from him all these years, he pulled out his gun and shot her in the abdomen. Just missing vital organs.
It had been two horrible days since Lizzy's surgery and only the beeps from all the machines assured him that she was alive. Two days of waiting for her to open her eyes and make a snarky comment about him being there. When she finally opens her eyes everything is right in his world. He had never felt so helpless as he listened through the comms and heard Hailey scream out Lizzy's name.
Isaac had been in Istanbul with his SEAL team when a bomb took out their safe house. He and Dax had woken at the same time when they heard a click and he was just in time to cover Dax with his body. A move that had saved Dax's life, but had inflicted major damage to his spinal cord leaving him in a wheelchair.
Lizzy has been hostile towards him since the first time they met mainly because he wouldn't share the hacking program he designed to find out anything about anyone with her. She was just so determined to find out he did it and livid he wouldn't share that he got too much pleasure not answering her questions.
So he knew she was going to be livid when she found out he told the hospital staff that she was his live-in fiance and his home was designed specifically for him to accommodate his wheelchair and he knew firsthand what was needed for a full recovery from a life-threatening injury.
I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this book has its own HEA and can be read as a standalone novel, reading the series from book one will give you a full background of the underlining plot of the Shadow Society trying to take down a human trafficking ring.
The characters throughout are recurring and actively part of each story and you will fall in love with all of these secondary characters.
Lizzy has always held everyone, even the women in the Shadow Society, at arm's length. After her waking up when she was five to find her murdered mother in bed with her and moving from one foster care family to another, trust doesn't come easy. Isaac was no longer able to return to his life as a SEAL but found another way to use his hacking skills to take down the bad guys.
I love how this author breaks through Lizzy's hard shell and Isaac's insecurities about being a paraplegic. The series plot will keep you turning the pages as everything slowly unravels leading them to the monster behind the human trafficking ring. Lizzy and Isaac get their HEA, but we are left with a cliffhanger when Lizzy finds the shocking name behind the money.
This book is action-packed from page one. There are surprising twists as the story unravels and is full of danger, intrigue and suspense. It is smoking hot, but for those with triggers, this book is full of violence and revolves around human trafficking and prostitution.
'Ni siquiera sabía que existían tipos como tú en el mundo real. Eres amable y gentil en todo lo que haces y, sin embargo, tienes esa fuerza que hace que parezca que puedes sostener el peso del mundo sobre tus hombros sin sudar. No puedo imaginarme dándole mi corazón a alguien más digno de él que tú.'

Relentless de Shelby Gunter serie The Shadow libro 2
Argumento:
Programadora. Codificadora. Hacker.
Lizzie y Isaac me enamoraron!
Relentless (The Shadow series book 2) by Shelby Gunter is a reverse grumpy forced proximity suspense romance. It’s best to read this as part of the series after book one Reckoning.
This book picks up right after book one. Isaac and Lizzie are both hackers. Isaac is kind and persistent in helping Lizzie recover from being shot. Lizzie is tough and guarded and Isaac gives Lizzie space to be vulnerable and open up. At the same time they both work on stopping a sex trafficking ring and someone from Lizzie’s past comes back to haunt her.
It was interesting to see Isaac in a wheelchair since it was different and not seen often with a main male character. Both Lizzie and Isaac have vulnerabilities and open up to each other and prove to each other they don’t have to settle in the lonely isolated lives they have been living.
There is a slow build with this book. There isn’t as much action as the first book, but a good balance of romance/sexy time and crime fighting action. Be aware this book has a sweet HEA, but ends with a cliffhanger leading to book 3. I’m curious and looking forward to the next book since there are a few loose ends and a few directions the series can go. This is a good continuation of the series while building/leading to the next book of the series. I recommend The Shadow Series if looking for suspense romance.
I loved Lizzy and Issac. They were so great together. Two people with plenty of baggage finding solace in each other. I loved that Issac’s injury wasn’t overlooked and that Lizzy’s confused feelings were examined. I loved the way they worked so well together and seemed to understand each other innately.
Lizzy is still recovering from her gun shot wound she got at the end of Reckoning, and she’s doing it at Isaac’s house. Isaac was the perfect person for Lizzy to recover with. He had a house built to accommodate his life in a wheelchair, as well as a top notch security system and all the computer equipment Lizzy could dream of.
Through her recovery, Lizzy starts working with Isaac to take down the human trafficking ring they discovered in Reckoning. The more time they spend together, the closer they get. Isaac is incredibly patient with Lizzy and gave her time to accept his growing feelings for her.
Lizzy was the epitome of a tech nerd. She’d never had a relationship, she kept everyone at a distance, and it wasn’t until Isaac came along that she realized what she had been missing. It was the perfect romance for this action packed book. And after the small cliffhanger at the end and the questions left unanswered, the finale is ramping up to be even more exciting.
This one can't be read as a stand-alone because there is some overlap even though each book is based on different characters. This one is about Lizzie and Isaac who were in the first book. These two are both hackers and each is annoyed with each other. Lizzy is independent so when she gets shot and needs to rely on someone she has an extremely hard time with this. Especially when it's Isaac who is demanding that he helps her by coming to recover at his house. These two have hidden chemistry and Isaac is actually infatuated with Lizzy and her skills but having a hard time expressing it. The funny thing is Lizzy feels the same way. While Lizzy is recovering, they are working on their mission from the first book. Which was looking into who is in control of the sex trafficking ring and getting evidence relating to it.
This one was so good. I love Lizzy and Isaac and their dynamic. They have a great push and pull; will they or won't they give in their chemistry? There are also a number of twists and turns that make this one interesting. I can’t wait for the next book to see how this all ends especially after that cliffhanger. The next book is about Thia and Jackson. But the mission still needs to be solved. One-click this series today.
I love reading romance and I love reading thrillers and this book is the perfect combination of both! It’s a mix of steamy romance and suspense that has you guessing till the very end! This is book 2 in The Shadow Series and I can’t wait for book 3!!
I love the way Shelby Gunter writes her characters in her books. The dialogue is engaging and very cleverly written. The fact that this is a reverse grumpy sunshine makes for an entertaining read. Lizzy is a brilliant computer hacker who is independent, prickly, and rough around the edges but absolutely totally endearing. Isaac is an ex Navy seal who has the patience and understanding that Lizzy never knew she needed.
The chemistry between Lizzy and Isaac leads to many steamy, sexy scenes. Between that and the international crime suspense, you can’t put this book down! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance and suspense!
I want to thank Shelby Gunter for this gifted copy of Relentless and I am honored to be chosen as an ARC reader.
Oh my goodness!! I love Lizzy so much! I knew from book one that she would be my soulmate! She’s inspiring and goodness I love her sass! I’m so addicted to this series!!
Lizzy has already gone through so much and goodness does she go through more!! So many favorite parts of this series happens with these two. Lizzy and Isaac are such a match and the pull towards each other is strong!
Isaac is exactly what I hoped he would be and so much more what Lizzy needs too! I couldn’t put this book down because of this pair and their ability to be so magnetic and pulled me into their world!
I grew annoyed at finding out some things at the end and I couldn’t race fast enough to find out more! I love the anticipation but goodness!! These two are a very big if not a top favorite of mine this year! I can’t wait to see them grow in the other books!
Lizzy is recovering from being shot. Of course the best place for her to get better is with Issac at his home. These two hackers have more in common than they think. The more time they spend together the closer they become and the more they confide in each other. Lizzy and Issac are working together to help their friends find the people they are all looking for…then things get worse. Someone from Lizzy’s past shows up and it’s not pretty. Lizzy is in danger and it’s going to be up to Issac and their friends to help her. This was another page turner in this intense series. The characters are broken people who have put themselves back together and are doing great things with their lives. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series.
I absolutely loved Lizzy and Isaac. Shelby has a way of making you feel like you get to know the characters so well that they become like family. I adore the relationship between Isaac and lizzy that is so unique to them and so special. The book provides plenty of mystery and suspense as well. As usual, another perfect read from shelby. My only complaint is that I have to wait until June to read the next one!
The trigger warnings are there and the book is very well written. This is a ME issue. I have trouble with human trafficking as a plot line because it gives me ick. So then when one page you're reading very descriptive text about rape and trafficked women, I have a hard time doing a 180 in the next chapter for sexy times.
I had to DNF. I think I'm just not in the mood for dark romance but if you are, these MC are great fighters and very likeable.
Holy hell!!! This book did not disappoint! Twists and turns I didn’t see coming! Shelby is so good at doing that. I love it. I absolutely laughed out loud at these two. They are so perfect for each other. Cannot wait for Thia and Jackson. I’m so excited it comes out in June.
Loved Lizzie the Wizard an Isaac storyline. I didn’t know finding love to a Veteran in a wheelchair could be so great. Unconditional love despite tribulations. Surrounding by a great team of relatives, love an a secret society love prevails. Grew at storyline.
This novel was written really well and the plot line was good. This one just didn’t click for me like the others have however that is a me thing and absolutely nothing to do with the authors writing style or story telling.
What a second book that will keep you wanting more. Uncovering secrets that people want to keep hidden is her job. Needing help isn’t part of her character. Perhaps there’s a surprise in store. Maybe it’s romance. Loved everything about it.
This book is one full of things you don’t typically see in romance. Reverse grumpy/sunshine and a male main character in a wheelchair. And I was here for it. It was done so well. This book continued the ongoing plot line from book one, digging further into tangled web, only to be left with more questions, which is exactly what needed to happen. I can’t wait for book three. I have a feeling it’s going to be a spectacular finale!
