More often than not, the environment that we live in throws us into a pit of toxicity. We face this almost everyday – at work, at home, at gatherings and everywhere. Negativity comes in a lot of ways – from people, perceptions, judgments, and nasty words. Without us realising it, we have allowed these negativities to dictate our life. We have let people and their perceptions to govern our happiness.
This is when we need to ask ourselves the most important questions.
Until when?
How long must we let people and their negativity drown us in the vast sea of misery?
It is now the time.
Embrace your true self.
You do you.
This book shares essential tips on how to carve your own happiness, building a content and fulfilling life while dealing with and ignoring negative judgments from all around you; be it from the people or the environment that you live in. Embracing The True You brings 10 ways on how to work on your own happiness while incorporating the elements of psychology, accompanied with Islamic perspective and teachings.
Transitioning into adulthood doesn’t mean I know everything that I wanted.
I still am searching for both my soul and worldly needs… still seeking our deepest and truest identity…
If you’re like me, you’ll find this book helpful to cater your needs.
Embracing The True You is solely a book about YOU and for YOU. The writer started carving a model of YOU by breathing in a purified soul, building your identity, adding essence of good traits, putting up a firewall and demanding YOU to dream big. I’d say the contents are well organised and thought out 🙌🏻
My favourite is Chapter 6 where she wrote about Constructing a Healthy Circle. Older generation might be taught to bottle up the emotions as “a sign of respect”. But glad that 21st century society has the awareness of what we called as gaslighting. S.N wrote on how to deal with toxicity in parallel with what our society is currently facing. Some ideas aren’t newly discovered but it’s always best to revisit.
“We don’t need to be with the whole world where wrong people makes us comfortable. We just need to find the right group that could be our strong support system and source of inspiration”
Though not a heavy read, I find the writing to be quite similar to literature review or textbook-like structured. A bit stiff at some topics where author didn’t include any self engaging stories. Aside from Chapter 6, Chapter 1 being one of the most prominent topics as her own experience is being included.
Soul searching, self identifying are complex issues and could lead you astray if the foundation isn’t strong. Kudos to author for writing it in a very simple manner yet still giving many useful advices/ guidances.
This is a good book for YOU who’s searching YOU.
QOTD: Are (or were) you prepared going into adulthood?
Thank you Aisha from @putehpress for sending me this review copy. You may find this book at KLIBF 2023!
This book Embracing the True You is exactly what my soul needs. The author has beautifully crafted words that resonate with what I have been experiencing in this challenging world.
The ten chapter titles can already tell you the secret recipe for embracing your genuine self. To get the most out of this book, this is the time when you need to empty your glass to absorb new perspectives, even on things you thought you knew well.
I would say that I love the final chapter the most, which is about giving back to the community, leaving a legacy, and inspiring others. When you know your worth, you will dream big and think beyond just yourself.
Kudos to the editorial team for the quality content arrangements and layouts. The key-takeaway and to-do tables at the end of every chapter are a brilliant inclusion to the book making it highly valuable; not to mention the beautiful watercolour illustrations.
To @putehpress, keep producing quality books like this. The world needs them. This book is different from other Sharifah Nadirah's books, as @putehpress has carved out their unique style in this piece. It's a good difference.

Such a good feed for my soul to start a new year, to strengthen my spirit and to boost my energy to another level that can enlighten me a clear path towards success and beautiful passion in life.
Embracing The True You consists of 10 chapters that each of it has beautiful tips shared by the author based on her own experiences and what she had gone through in life. The author encourages us to embrace our true self despite any weaknesses we have or any difficulties and challenges we might face in this world.
What attracted me the most about this book is when the author introduced on "Human Firewall". Have you heard of this human firewall? Do you have any idea how it functions? This is such a new idea and new info for me as I never encountered it before. Through this tips, the author taught us and shared few methods on how we can set our priorities and boundaries by knowing our rights, so that people may not take us for granted and criticize us for absurd reasons.
"The human firewall functions as a shield that allows us to uphold our principles and beliefs while making people respect our boundaries. The human firewall serves as the fundamentals of our own self-security system and program which provide protection.
Well, we know and we aware that in life, we might receive so many criticism from others, being in a toxic environment and we have no option but to stay for example. Hence, this human firewall is here to help us to remain sane and know our right.
If you are still looking for a book that you wanna start your 2024 reading, this book is the perfect one for you. In order for you to know your true self and embrace the reality of YOU!
Pertama sekali berkenaan buku.
