Emily Jayne and the Kairos Codex is a middle-grade speculative science-fiction novel set in a Milky Way galaxy that is filled with intelligent extraterrestrial life. It has strong and smart female characters in lead roles, who like science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). (It has strong and smart male characters too!) The heroine, 11-year-old Emily Jayne Hutchings, and her cousin Sarah Spiller, need help from their friends Lazar, Samuel and Cindy, to escape evil time travelling aliens and find the one extraterrestrial species that can help them.
Loved this book from start to finish. Great character development and intrigue. This book is geared to ages 8-11 and I highly recommend it. Even learned a few things! Can’t wait for books 2 & 3 to come out… I have questions 😀. This book is available at: https://sevenstarsover.ca/
This book was so much fun to read. The plot is gripping with all the elements you’d want from a science fiction novel. The protagonist is endearing, and each character is rich with personality. Can’t wait for the next one!
Full disclosure: the author is a friend and I beta read the book.
Emily Jayne (EmJ) loves math and science and, most of all, her family, including her cousin Sarah and dog, Rex. But Sarah has a secret; she’s an alien. She’s also sick and getting sicker. The girls use their mutual love of math and science to send a message to space in the hope they can find Sarah’s species and cure her for good.
EmJ is a wonderful character, full of joy, intelligence, and insecurity, who the reader can really root for.
Aliens, space travel, mystery, and adventure. This novel would appeal to any person, young or old, who wonders what might be out there.
This book is wonderful, filled with science, humour, intrigue and fantasy. The characters are fun and interesting, making a supportive band of allies. Who doesn't love space travel and weird aliens? If you didn't before you will after reading Emily Jayne and the Kairos Codex.
Full disclosure - I wrote this book. I wanted a book with strong and smart girls and women in leading roles, who like science, technology, engineering and mathematics. From my perspective, Emily Jayne and the Kairos Codex is about children, friendship and adventure. It’s about dogs, and the special connection that can exist between people and the canines they love. It’s about neurodivergent kids, those children who don’t fit in with the ‘normal’ kids at school, and it’s about diversity. It’s about a love for and connection with math, astronomy, space and the universe, and a longing to know more and to find life elsewhere. I hope you read this novel, and I hope you enjoy it!
Fabulous! This novel is full of adventure, humor, and interesting content and is written in such a unique way. I’m 54 years old and the story captured and held my interest all the way through. Parents who read this to their middle school children will be captivated. This novel should be on everyone’s read list. I can’t wait for the second book in the series!
