A wildly imaginative fantasy graphic novel about the responsibilities of creation.
Leftstar can’t seem to access the world they’ve been building. They also haven’t slept in a long time. These things are almost certainly unrelated, and they should really go get the mail, anyway. But their trip to the post office is interrupted by a curious an enormous fruit bat. Whisked away in the bat’s claws, Leftstar is taken on an adventure to unblock the path to their deserted creation. Between bites of pie and words of wisdom, can Leftstar remember the most crucial part of invention?
Find out in this chill and cozy story, potentially familiar to those who find themselves trapped outside of their own worlds.
Like many other reviews say: great art, confusing story. I think rereading it would help the overall comprehension of what's happening, but I'd prefer it to be a bit clearer. The humor was fun, seemingly aimed towards a young teenage audience.
Weird in a good way, with the protagonist being a sort of creator of worlds who loses his ability to create or interact with his creations, too caught up in his own idea of perfection and worth that he's lost the joy of creation itself. With some beautiful artwork, lots of great facial expressions and the 'creation' magic(?) stuff was fun.
LOVED the artwork, it's really beautiful and cute at the same time, very Ghibli-esque at times. The story on the other hand didn't grab me. I finished it without much of an impression of what happened.
stunning art with such confident storytelling and character work. the kind of debut that makes you sit up and pay attention to what this artist does next
My two favorite words: Delightful! Weird! I love how it takes this dreamy setting of characters who craft entire worlds and brings that feeling of being creatively blocked so near. Rest is good!
A fun and atmospheric story with interesting characters, worldbuilding and message. I love the art and the cartooning, and my only wish is for it to have lingered a bit more towards the end.
Beautiful art. I love the textures and the switching of colors in between worlds. The story is whimsical and cozy, with similar vibes to Adventure Time, Bee & Puppycat, etc. I need more!
