About the author

Howard Anton obtained his B.A. from Lehigh University, his M.A. from the University of Illinois, and his Ph.D. from the Polytechnic University of Brooklyn, all in mathematics. In the early 1960's he worked for Burroughs Corporation and Avco Corporation at Cape Canaveral, Florida, where he was involved with the manned space program. In 1968 he joined the Mathematics Department at Drexel University, where he taught full time until 1983. Since that time he has been an adjunct professor at Drexel and has devoted the majority of his time to textbook writing and activities for mathematical associations. Dr. Anton was president of the EPADEL Section of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), Served on the board of Governors of that organization, and guided the creation of the Student Chapters of the MAA. He has published numerous research papers in functional analysis, approximation theory, and topology, as well as pedagogical papers. He is best known for his textbooks in mathematics, which are among the most widely used in the world. There are currently more than one hundred versions of his books, including translations into Spanish, Arabic, Portuguese, Italian, Indonesian, French, Japanese, Chinese, Hebrew, and German. For relaxation, Dr. Anton enjoys traveling and photography.

বইটা বেশ ভালো তবে calculus জিনিস টাকে আয়ত্ত করা কঠিন। তারউপর বইটা সমুদ্রের মতো কোল নাই কিনারা নাই, স্যার ক্লাসে যা পড়াতেন তা এই বই থেকে খুজে পেতেও আমার চলে যেত কয়েক ঘন্টা। এই বই পড়তে গিয়ে নিজের নাম ভুলে যাওয়াটা বিচিত্র কিছু নহে, আর অনেক প্রশ্নের সমাধান এমনই প্রাঞ্জল ভাবে লেখা হয়েছে যে সমাধান দেখেও বুঝা আমার সাধ্যের বাইরে।

So far, this is the best Calculus book I've ever read and recommend it to everyone that's having a hard time on solving problems. It do not only have great explanations and very good examples but also presents some background history on the main mathematicians and scientists that developed the theories and ideais presented on this discussion.

This book isn't bad. For getting the lay of the land and making a comprehensive coverage over the fundamental topics (including linear algebra).

I think in some parts it could be better in explaining a concept by giving as much examples as possible. This would have increased the volume of the book. So, in some ways I understand the brevity of the treatment on some topics. I breezed through most of the book but the last 2 chapters got hairy.

I cannot get enough of this book. I emailed the writers and told them all about how much I love the human history and mastery of Calculus pedagogy. That being said, I'm returning to this book to learn Vector Calculus in depth and think this is no ordinary Calculus text. This is the best book for gifted amateurs. As insightful as it is challenging.

It's hard to review a math textbook, but this is one of the better ones I've encountered, so 4 stars.
