You’re more special than you know. Liz Brander’s grandfather used to tell her that all the time. Could they be more than just words? Not long before a planned trip, a personal tragedy leads her to uncover a long-kept secret. Determined to fulfill her journey—or perhaps run away from her problems—she leaves for Florida, only to be stranded with no money, no place to go, and no one to turn to. With the warm gulf waters beckoning her and an unexpected connection, leaving her sleepy home in Ohio may be more than she bargained for. After finding out he’s the unwilling partner of an upcoming arranged marriage, Wyatt, Prince of Aquana, seeks guidance from his late mother’s journal, discovering they’re more alike than he thought. Reading about her explorations of the world above the water is the push he needs to leave his home. When he steps onto land, Wyatt finds life above the ocean is much more than he ever imagined. As Liz and Wyatt’s paths cross and become entangled with others, will their secrets remain hidden beneath the surface? Or will the sea pull them under?

This book really starts off throwing us into the undersea with Wyatt. He reminds me a bit of Ariel wanting to be in the human world and see more than just his kingdom.
Going to the land was the best path for him.
Meeting Liam and Denise gave him a found family in friends that everyone needs.Meeting Liz gave him a chance at true love.
The real villain in this story is grief. It causes people to do so much more than they would normally.
I have hopes in the next book that those torn apart will find their way back to each other because destiny should not keep them apart.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

4.5 out of 5 stars for this debut novel! - Honest Review

(Review may contain information that some people find that could be viewed as spoiler info but no major details or revelations)

Do not let the premise of this book fool you. When I first read the blurb I was intrigued but also a little apprehensive because it seemed a little too young adult or cliche and I wasn’t sure I was feeling like reading that. My typical genre is urban or high fantasy but I sprinkle in some lighter books to break up all of the fantasy worlds I visit since they tend to start blending together.

This book starts off feeling very much like a gender-bent version of the Little Mermaid, mainly because of the collection of human artifacts coupled with the desire and fascination with humans/land-dwellers. I do also have a tendency to compare any mermaid story with the Little Mermaid because that is the only mermaid story I grew up with for years (outside of the mermaids from Peter Pan)

The characters are in their late teens/early twenties and I appreciate seeing that age represented the way it is. I feel like American society expects people to have their lives at least planned and mostly figured out by the time they graduate high school and from my experience and what I’ve heard from others, that’s hardly the case. Sometimes the plans parents have for their children doesn’t play out as expected or desired and that is represented in more than one character in this story.

The 3rd person perspective is interesting to read (in a good way) because though both main characters are dealing with family tension and issues, both carry a different intensity so it’s not heavy emotions each chapter. Though it is in 3rd person, the story does tend to focus a little more on Liz and Wyatt as to two main characters.

I LOVE these characters. The dynamic that they share with each other is just so wholesome and I can’t get enough of it.

Story wise, this feels very much like a cute, small beach town love story after a couple of introductory chapters but then the story expands into something more. I would say it’s a great mix of introductory chapters (setting characters and scene), self discovery, cute love story vibes, and drama with some action…though I can’t exactly say how much of the book belongs to each thing.

What kept me from giving it a full 5 stars is that it took me a bit to really get into the book. One character is experiencing some deep family tragedy off the get-go and I feel like maybe the story could’ve gone a little deeper emotionally with that but I don’t feel like that was the author’s intent. The main focus was the self discovery, not the tragedy so I feel that. I also think towards the end one of the characters does things seemingly out of character and discovers things a little too easily but that’s just nitpicking really.

You may love this book if you like:
🫧 Mermaid lore
🫧 Self-discovery
🫧 Family secrets/mysteries
🫧 Instant connection (not instant love)
🫧 Found family
🫧 Books set in real locations
🫧 No spice

Lost was my first dive into the mermaid genre of fantasy, and Greenfield did not disappoint!

We’re first introduced to Wyatt, a merman, and he is an early twenties male version of Ariel. He’s obsessed with land dwellers and collects artifacts he finds in the sea. The rebellious prince wants nothing more than to explore more
of the world. Maybe what he’s looking for in life isn’t in the sea?

Next we meet Liz, she’s an early twenties college drop out trying to figure her life out. After a tragic loss she finds her self sneaking off on a solo trip to a small Florida island. She’s got a life changing revelation spinning in her mind and the words “You’re more special than you know” echoing in her grandfathers voice.

Both characters manage to stumble upon Liam, a worker at a local restaurant. Liam may just be the sweetest and most caring person on the planet. His dynamic with Liz and Wyatt is amazing, and I couldn’t get enough of the relationship building between all of the characters. The entire cast of characters in the story are fantastic. I’m a sucker for found family tropes and this one hits the spot. This book made me laugh, shed a few tears, and had me sitting at the edge of my seat in suspense. All totally worth it.

This does end on a cliffhanger so I will be eating cinnamon rolls, staring at photos of the ocean, and anxiously awaiting book 2 in the series!

Lost is an outstanding novel about following your heart. It's listed under new adult but I feel it could also be young adults.
Wyatt is the Prince of aquana. His life has been filled and planned down to his every meal. However he doesn't enjoy that and he wants to find something new on his own. He stumbles upon his mother's journal and he surfaces for the first time to the land. He falls in love and makes great friends and they help him learn the ways of humans. One of those friends is Liz a young woman who's trying to find her way in life. She's been traumatized a few times and decided to set a path to find answers for herself.
Wyatt's family did not support his wish to live his own life and did not agree with him on coming on to land and Liz did not get along with her parents or family by her wanting to live life of adventure and find her own way as well. These two seem like the perfect couple when it comes to finding yourself in a crazy world or in this case multiple worlds.
While reading this I felt excitement happiness worry and was constantly at the edge of my seat. This book drew me in so much that I am so excited to Read book two.
If you like the ocean, mermaids, adventure, love, friendship, newfound families this is your book.

We can all relate to the characters in Lost. Transitioning from being a child/teenager to an adult can be confusing and scary. However, it is truly where we discover what kind of person we are going to be.

In Lost, Liz and Wyatt, two strangers, are lost. Not lost in a sense of they can't find their way home, but lost in the sense of they don't know who they are supposed to be. I enjoy books that focus on two main characters and intertwine their stories. M.E. Greenfield's novel, she does a fabulous job making her readers truly fall in love with her characters. I truly felt as if I was walking around on a beach in Florida with these characters. I felt their feelings, their worries.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great story of friends, the beach, and of course, mermaids!

Holy Cow!!! I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. I was intrigued with the idea of reading a book about mermaids, because it is out of the realm of my typical interests. I also loved mermaid tales as a kid. But I did have my own hesitancy fearing that it would be “child-like” to peak my interest. But honestly this was so well written and just a fun adventurous read!!

All the little pieces that Greenfield added to the storyline really threw this whole book together. From the cinnamon rolls, the restaurants, the small phrases, the hints, the clues, the jewelry, everything was so well thought out and made it such a fun and enjoyable read! Seriously M.E. didnt miss a single detail with this.

Also the little pieces of Liz and Wyatt’s relationship, and the build up of their connection, was *chefs kiss*

That ending though!!! I seriously HAVE to wait for the second book?! You’re killin me….

In the meantime, I’ll be impatiently waiting for the intertwined souls part 2 😭

“Lost” was such a fun read! It has mystery, found family, duel POV, merpeople, heart pounding adventure, complicated relationships, romance and a heck of a twist!! Picture Disney’s Luca, The Thirteenth Year and H2O rolled into a NA fantasy adventure novel!
We follow Liz and Wyatt - both lost souls and both seeking answers. Wyatt is running away from the responsibilities of a Kingdom while Liz is trying to learn more about her past. Connecting over friendship, cinnamon rolls and the sea - their futures are more intertwined than they could ever know.

This is the first book of M.E. Greenfield’s Intertwined Souls series and I cannot wait to see what is in store for book 2!

Thank you to M.E. Greenfield for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed this book. I loved how the author immersed us in the world of Liz and Wyatt. I didn’t want the book to end, and when it did I said “really? That’s it?!” I want more, and I wanted it like yesterday. But seriously, if you want a good book about family, and duty, and forging your own path, this book is for you!

What a ride! I stumbled upon this book and the author one day, and I am so glad!

The writing was beautiful, and the story was incredibly interesting, though not my typical genre or age group. I was surprised to find out that it was New Adult fiction. At first glance and reading the blurb, I had originally assumed it was Young Adult or Middle Grade. Shame on me, though. I'm a librarian, and I know better than to judge a book by its cover, y'all!

This is not your typical merfolk fiction by aby means. While there are similarities to others out there, this felt fresh and reimagined. There are very deep emotions and hard topics of grief that resonate throughout both Liz's and Wyatt's stories.

Starting out, I was reminded of the Little Mermaid. It was hard not to with Wyatt being a collector of human items, much like Ariel. He enjoys their books, stories, music, and anything to do with those who live above the sea. It was kind of a gender-bender situation that I found myself giggling at because it was too adorable how he talked about things.

The characters are in their early twenties (give or take), and it was wonderful to see that they didn't have their lives figured out. Lord knows most don't at that age. I certainly didn't. Liz and Wyatt were still trying to figure out who they were, where they belonged, and were struggling with that aspect of moving from being a kid to an adult.

There is a lot of self-discovery woven into this novel, coupled with a cute love story, small beach town feels, and of course, that summery, oceanside vibe. There were also a lot of secrets being withheld from the main characters, which kind of angered me for them. It seemed as though their families purposefully wanted to keep them in the dark for no other reason than they had the ability to do so.

The only issue (and it really isn't one) was the love story portion of this book. The idea of "soul mates" was kind of a little bit of an eye roll for me. It felt a little forced and at times like you were being hit over the head with it. I'm also not typically one to read cutesy, love stories. I gravitate more towards dark/grim fantasy and horror.

You may like this novel if you enjoyed:

Grab a cinnamon roll and strap in, because this adventure is so sweet.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Tropes:
◉ Soul mates
◉ Found family
◉ Secret identity
◉ Different worlds

Wyatt is the Prince of Aquana - oh and he's a merman. He's been sheltered by the king his whole life and yet he longs for adventure and knowledge of the land above. When he discovers his father is planning an arranged marriage for him, Wyatt decides to run away.

Liz is going through a lot - drifting aimlessly through life. She dropped out of college and is struggling to find a job. Things take a turn for the worse when tragedy strikes and family secrets come out that lead to her own adventure.

The two meet under unusual circumstances and form an unbreakable bond throughout the book. While their bond seemed to click into place pretty early on, I did enjoy the back and forth in their relationship.

The found family trope was strong in this book. I must say Liam is 100% my favorite character. He cares so much about his friends and will not hesitate to drop everything to help them. He's got ride-or-die energy and I'm loving it.

Liam and Liz's friendship was *chef's kiss*. In my eyes, they are platonic soul mates and no one can convince me otherwise.

I despised Jessica and all her red flags. I just wanted to jump onto the page and smack her.

The pace of the book starts a bit slow, but then it quickly progresses. I really enjoyed the last third of the book and how the action picked up. It was definitely not where I saw the story going and I was pleasantly surprised with the outcomes.

I cannot wait to read more about these characters and Wyatt and Liz's journey.

P.S.
I still despise Jessica.

I’m so happy I was chosen to be an ARC reader for this debut author’s first book in the “Intertwined Souls” trilogy! It was captivating, creative, and most importantly, NEW.
I love fantasy, I love fae, magical realms and all mythical creatures! However, I never read books about mermaids or even see them recommended. Very rarely do I hear about a good NA novel about the ocean’s magnificent creatures, so getting to read this was a breath of fresh air in the world of current popular fantasy novels.
This book has it all: fated lovers, Dual POV, mystery, action, MERMAIDS, and even reading about Denise’s famous cinnamon rolls made my mouth water.
The story follows two “lost” souls, Wyatt and Liz, on the journey to discovering themselves and eventually, each other. I definitely recommend this for anyone who loves romance without smut, slow burn, and fantasy!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I’m itching to read the second one to see what happens next!

WOW!!

This book tells the story of Wyatt, Liz and the friends they meet along the way. Wyatt is the Prince of Aquana. He is tired of living under his fathers thumb and having his life down to his meals planned out for him. He wants to explore the ocean and find his soulmate. After finding his mother's journal Wyatt surfaces for the first time and falls in love with the land. He meets some pretty great friends to help him learn the human way. Liz is a young woman who is trying to find her way in life. After a couple traumatic events, she is set on a path to find the answers she is so determined to find. Does Wyatt find his soulmate? Does Liz find the answers she is looking for? Can they live without the assistance of their family who don't support their wishes?

This is a beautiful story of how "following your heart," and trusting your gut can lead you to wonderful things you never expected to find. Friendship, found family, love and adventure. This book had me feeling so many different emotions. I went from wonder to tears. I felt excitement and happiness. I was worried at times and was on the edge of my seat. I also have never craved cinnamon rolls so much in my life. (LOL)

I recommend reading this book and I'm so excited for the next release of book 2. Thank you M.E. Greenfield for allowing me the opportunity to take this journey as an ARC reader. :)

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It started off feeling like a gender bent rehashing of The Little Mermaid and I was really worried it would follow the exact same storyline, but it quickly introduced unique elements and plot points that bloomed into a slow burn romantasy. If you want to rush through a plot, this is not for you but if you want to watch pieces of a story drift together while getting to know characters with baggage, hop on this train. Or rather, boat. It has family drama, merfolk, an evil protagonist, a tension fraught boat chase, and a cliff hanger ending that left me eager for the next book.

First of all, I am so, so very grateful to have been a part of the ARC team for this book. It was an absolutely fantastic read, and I cannot wait for book 2!

Do you like mermaids? Do you like disgustingly cute, adorable romances that are too sweet for their own good? Do you like your stories to rip your heart out and then glue the pieces back together? Then you’re going to love this one!

Wyatt is a prince. A mer-prince, to be specific. And he would do just about anything to get to explore the human world that his father despises so much. Liz is a human. A very normal human, really. And her world’s just been turned upside down in the worst way. The two of them find themselves on the same island, at the same time, and if you want to know more you’re going to have to go read it for yourself.

I don’t know where to start with this book; I loved everything about it. The story was amazing and engaging, and the plot had a nice, leisurely pace. The last several chapters are really where all the action is, but getting there was such an enjoyable journey that I didn’t mind the pacing. *Things* happen, and the ending left me with all of the emotions.

Now for the characters. I’d say there’s 3 main characters: Wyatt (the MMC), Liz (the FMC), and Liam (the lovely friend MC; LFMC?). Cinnamon rolls. Every single one of them is a literal cinnamon roll and I love them all. Speaking of cinnamon rolls, grab a snack while you’re reading this one because you’re going to want it. Moving on. All three of these MCs are amazing and unique and I adore them. Wyatt is learning to be his own man (merman?), Liz is dealing with an incredible amount of upheaval and grief, and Liam is just doing his absolute best to help both of his friends any way he can. They’re not perfect, and there’s a lot of growth amongst the MMC and FMC, but I didn’t find them to be annoying or irritating along the way.

And the romance! It’s so, so cute and so sweet and just…amazing. This is definitely not a spicy book, so if you’re looking for that you’ll need to go elsewhere. But if you want a budding romance that’s one of the most adorable things I’ve read in a long time? This is where it’s at.

“Lost” is out March 29, and you need to go get yourself a copy ASAP.

Thank you to the author for sending me an e-book copy of Lost to read and review. I am glad this will be a series and not a standalone! I can't wait to see what happens next. After I read the summary I knew I had to read this book. It has mermaids, secrets, and adventure. Also, the cover is stunning! This is a great debut novel and I can't wait to read more books by Greenfield.

Greenfield has a great writing style, and I was intrigued through most of the story. It did take me a minute to get into the book, but after that I was hooked. I loved the descriptions, the scenery, and the characters. The atmosphere is stunning, and I feel like I was there with Liz. Liz and Wyatt are two wonderful characters to follow. I liked how the author writes Liz and Wyatt's relationship, and like seeing how it grows over time. The book is a little more light and happy, filled with adventure and mermaids, but it does get dark at times too. The book talks about grief, loss, anxiety, secrets, family pressures, and more. This is a story about following your dreams, found-family, love, and friendship. Lost will make you feel all of the emotions, but mainly happiness. I would definitely read this at the beach, while dreaming about meeting mermaids.

This book had me hooked from the beginning to the end… I’m so glad I read it!!! “Lost” is the story of Wyatt, Prince of Aquana, who has always craved adventure, and a girl named Liz, who ends up in Florida after she discovers a secret that changes everything. I really love when I can fall into a world and fall in love with the characters, and that’s exactly what happened when I read “Lost.” Wyatt is such a sweetheart, and I don’t blame him for wanting to know more about the surface, especially considering everything that happened with his mother. And Liz!!! I truly feel like she’s both lost and hurting, and I love that Liam (my favorite side character) was able to help her feel a little less alone. I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this amazing series!!!

Beware this book will make you want to eat cinnamon rolls (in the best way).

There was adventure, friendship, merpeople, some travel disasters and the sweetest new love story.

I loved the multiple POVs, from the two main characters and from the ever loyal friend to give you an extra perspective on the events.

Wyatt was such a fun male role. I loved getting into his mind and all his quirky ocean sayings! I’m glad that he was able to find out more about his parent’s past.

I love that Liz took her chance and traveled to Florida by herself. I’m glad she was able to friend a friend in Liam.

I really enjoyed how the soulmates played a role and how Wyatt and Liz slowly started to understand the connection they had. It was so sweet and made my heart so full.

It was such an interesting perspective on how the merpeople transformed. I love it.

That ending! I am so excited to read the next installment in this series.

Ok y’all grab your cinnamon roll and enjoy this sweet adventure🧜🏼‍♀️🧜🏽‍♂️ I received an ARC of this book for my honest review. The beginning gave me little mermaid vibes, but man was I wrong. It quickly picked up and made it hard for me to put it down. The story between Wyatt & Liz with their family drama & secrets. Wyatt was tired of being told what to do. While Liz finds out a secret that turns her life around. As both lost souls seek to find who they are and where they belong with the help of their mutual friend Liam. The connection between the characters send sparks to my soul. The shocking ending has left me ready for book two.

This story could not have been written better from Liam who takes Liz under his wing from nearly the moment her life is flipped up aside down to Wyatt and Sarah who are monumental to the story being told! The dual pov! The ending!! Everything about this left me needing more and I’m already so ready for book two 😍

This book was an adventure! Wyatt’s world is becoming a little too small, so he decides to push the boundaries and widen his horizons. Liz’s world has fallen down in broken pieces around her and the only way to find closure is to listen to her heart and the wise words of a man she loved very deeply. Who knew Anna Maria Island would be the place where worlds collide? Friendship, family, and true love - would you be willing to risk it all to have it all?

Follow along as Wyatt leaves his merworld to find his destiny among humans. Maybe he’ll find exactly what he’s looking for.

LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK! The ending had me completely mind blown and I’m still thinking about it. I need a second book! I felt connected to Wyatt, Liz, & Liam and found myself going through the motions with them throughout the entire book. I loved how the story had multiple small details that eventually came to represent a bigger concept within the story.

It’s an added bonus that it mentions my hometown throughout the book. :) I loved the romance and suspense in this book. Be prepared to want cinnamon rolls while reading this book - I may or may not have went to my local bakery twice to get some while reading it haha.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A really solid debut from M. E. Greenfield, Lost is part genderbent The Little Mermaid and part The Tale of Emily Windsnap.

Wyatt, our merman, is adorably innocent and naive, but quick to figure out the ways of the human world. Liz is looking to find the secrets of her past, and isn’t entirely sure she can handle what she finds. The first two chapters do feel a bit disjointed with the contrast of Wyatt’s mermaid life and Liz’s loss, but the writing draws you in quickly and the story makes you really want to know more.

This book does end on a cliffhanger, so be warned. The story is pretty heavily mid-YA with chaste kissing and insinuations of off page sex.

Lost by M. E. Greenfield is a unique dual POV fantasy fiction about two characters named Wyatt and Liz. Wyatt is running from a life he never wanted while Liz is running toward answers. What they both find in the island they meet at and in each other is incredible.

This book had me gripped from the very beginning. It sucked me in and refused to let me go until the very last period. It’s the first in the new series and leaves yoj on a cliffhanger thinking WHAT IS GOING ON?! But it was absolutely an amazing read. I’m so glad I was chosen to be on the ARC team for this read and I’m absolutely honored to be giving this book my completely honest review.

It comes out at the end of the month, so be sure to be on the lookout for it! You won’t be sorry!

Wyatt is tired of being told what to do and who to love. He loves his family, but it's time for him to find his own way.

Liz finds out a secret her family has kept from her and it turns her world upside down. Now, she is on a journey to find out where she truly belongs.

I loved this whole book from beginning to end. And let me tell you the ending you won't see coming!!!

This book was amazing. I can honestly say that I’ve never read a book like it. Although it had a slow start once you got over the hump the story just picked up and took off. I had a hard time putting it down. I’ve never read a mermaid book quite like this one. I need book 2 like asap. How could it just end on that cliffhanger!!! I can’t wait to see how the rest of the story unfolds.

This book took me only 2 days with lots of stops between....this first time author did an amazing job worldbuilding, along with getting the characters personalities into place. If I could give this book more stars I would. The cliffhanger at the end has me screaming for the next book.
