Wonderful volume!

I feel not much happens until the last few pages, but I still found this volume so comforting to read!

I think one of my favorite parts is seeing Aoi really act like Odanna's wife in the sense of her caring for those around her, especially those at Tenjin-ya. I think we especially see that in her actions with Shizuna and how she helped her open up (and even cook) to a certain someone.

I will randomly mention that all the (MANY) food pages were wonderful and definitely made me hungry!!

Again those last few pages were quite the cliffhanger and I have no idea what to expect, but I could imagine the next volume will be quite intense for a little bit! Eagerly looking forward to reading it!

Ending on a cliffhanger that big should be criminal.

Aoi is asked to help host an impromptu picnic by a hot spring. She uses the opportunity to showcase the ketchup she just made, and also try to bring about some peacemaking between Shizuna and her former apprenticeship master. When Ginji’s former employer shows up and tells him his time at Tenjin-ya is up and he must return to Orio-ya, Aoi tries to stop it but she ends up in trouble herself. There’s a bit in here about Odanna also bringing back some food items from the human world, and promises that Aoi will be making pancakes in the near future…that is if she can get out of the mess she ends up in at the very end of this book.

Yes, it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. And we don’t get #11 in English until January 2026. Hmph. I liked that this one gave us more background on the inns and Ginji. I had totally forgotten who Shizuna was so it took me a little bit to remember her story.

5* for all 10 volumes

I must say that this series is a comfort story to me. It is pure nostalgia, taking me back to my teenage years. When I was 15, naive, and somehow still happy despite everything.

BUT, that's not to say I have no criticism regarding the story, or rather one character in particular. Our main girl, Aoi. To me she felt like another anime FMC, a moldy piece of toast floating around the story. She had her moments and she is a loveable character, but when it comes to interacting with our main MMC, I can't see anything but the clichés that are always shown in anime and manga. God forbid a female character have a recation other than blushing when she is with the MMC.

It's weird of me to give it 5 stars despite everything I just said. Uet I can't bring myself to concider any other rating. I just hope the light novels are different. The books are always better.

Also rewatching some of the anime episodes, I noticed that it took a few liberties with the story and also omitted a ton of details. On a rewatch, I can clearly say that it diminished the story and sometimes the plot lines seemed to happen out of nowhere. Usually animes are loyal adaptations, but I guess that's not the case for all of them.

One good thing I enjoyed about the manga was that every food our girl makes, comes with clear instructions. We have the recipe and the needed ingredients for each dish. I learned a few new foods to make, and one of them is muffins with corn and pizza cheese. It can't get better than that. If you love to learn some Japanese food, you should give a shot.

This a lovely story that has stayed with me to this day, I can't part with it. And that must mean something, right? Read it if you want a ligh-hearted, forced-marriage, cozy cooking story. (=

After the scare with the missing kids and all the personnel interpersonal drama, the Odanna has decided to throw an impromptu party for the Tenjin-ya staff and their visitors from Orio-ya with Aoi catering. The party is going well, when it is crashed by Orio-ya's senior staff who have come to pick up Tokihiko, Hatori, Nobunaga... and one other!

This is end of season 1 for the anime. We get slightly more info on Lady Ogan-doji, but the real news is Genji is demanded to return to Orio-ya and when Aoi tries to stop it, she is kidnapped and also taken to Orio-ya. The end of this one always frustrates me, I don't like it when people don't communicate and even more when they don't give trust that has been earned. However, I do like the next arc, and am excited to get the more fleshed out version from the manga!

Content notes: No language issues. No sensuality issues, Oryo gets drunk and comments on people's marriageability, and light flirting between couples, but that's it. A character is kidnapped and in physical peril, but it is mostly threats and not actions.

Here's another series that I've been reading because I liked the anime. I wish the manga came out faster though, with this volume it only gets through episode 13 and maybe a touch of 14 of the first season. Second season's currently airing so no hope for new content without maybe reading the light novels.

I found this volume ever so slightly boring until I got to the climax at the end. I don't think that there was anything wrong with this volume, I think there is just too much of a time gap between reading volume 9 and 10 to maintain the momentum of the story. It's hard to enjoy a story when you're constantly hitting the pause button in awkward spots. With the cliffhanger ending of this volume though I'm glad that I don't have to wait for the next one since it just came out.

This was a quick enjoyable read. The dishes looked appetizing. I honestly had no idea ketchup could be used in such varied ways. There was communication. And it's not just that there was communication, communication was encouraged and facilitated and it was fantastic.

I read the description and I was kind of confused until the last chapter. At which point I wanted to yell at Aoi for being impulsive and unreasonable and throwing herself into situations she didn't fully understand. And now I have to wait for the next book. A part of me is screaming inside, not gonna lie.

So the drama between the B&Bs intensifies as Orio-ya employees linger at Tenjin-ya. Some drama seems to be resolved through the healing power of food and good communication. But I want more Aoi x Odanna because this seems like it's meant to be a Beauty and the Beast style story, but so far, I don't get anything romantic from Aoi's end. And if it's supposed to be a slow burn, it's taking it's sweet time (or I'm just dumb and missed it).

Then a secret boss showed up and kidnapped the princess.

This series, which started off pretty promising, is rapidly losing its luster with me. The fact that a year goes by between volumes is one thing, but each volume barely propels the story forward, despite lacking any summary that would help you remember what the situation was after all the intervening time. Starting to feel like a webcomic that is treading water and heading towards abandonment.

Aoi overhears a conversation while bring a boxed lunch, and betrays herself while eavesdropping.

But then she goes to the hot springs, and with one thing and another they end up making a meal up there -- and she helps another employee.

A twist at the end brings up more of its history, with more problems.
