He worked as an assistant for Taku Kitazaki, and debuted in 1990 with GET ROCK, published in Magazine Special. His most notable series are Firefighter! Daigo of Fire Company M and Subaru.
In 1997 Soda won the Shogakukan Manga Award for Firefighter! Daigo of Fire Company M, and in 2005 he won the Kodansha Manga Award for Capeta.

Plot review:
This manga is a master piece and it is way better than the original manga. In fact, it inspired me to go to YouTube to study and watch the performance of La Bayadere, La Traviate, 32 fouettes in Black Swan and Giselle. The chemistry between Nico Jasma and Subaru is electrifying and I love the dance interpretation of the angry Odile. I sincerely hope that Nico will fall in love with Subaru who has unrequited love for him.
At the same time, the author give an interesting background story on Hsu Min Min (Subaru greatest rival) who went through similar hardship in China to become an upcoming dancer in American Ballet Theater. I like the fact that the Masahito Sensei did not sugarcoat the hardship of being a ballet artist and it is heavily implied that she might be a mistress of a lawyer. On the other hand, the author also point out that professionalism and chemistry can exist between dancers (Peter Murphy and Hsu Min Min). I look forward to the future rivalry between Peter Murphy vs Nico Jasma.
Drawing style:
I applaud Masahito-Sensei artistic style. He must have put a lot of effort by watching many ballet performances. Perhaps, he even study the training as it is quite challenging to draw the dancer muscles in such a realistic way. If you have watched Black Swan, you will notice the ballet dancers body achieved by Natalie Portman has a similar feeling in the drawing styles of the dancers. I love the fact he stayed true to the setting of the stage in the Varna ballet competition in Bulgaria.
Future movie interpretation?
I hope someone will make a sequel movie out of this manga but the casting director must find real ballet dancers to play Subaru. Meisa Kuroki is great in contemporary piece of Bolero but this is a ballet manga and it is important to find dancers who can dance en-pointe for complicated piece. Highly recommended for ballet aficionado!

I am really glad to see a new series growing out of the original manga. I can't wait to see how Subaru grows as a dancer and it looks like they have some interesting ideas already.

Moon Subaru Solitude Standing is the sequel of Dance Subaru a manga created by Masahito Soda-sensei.
the story follows Subaru after the events of the prequel. Subaru now is a member of Mihalov's dancing troupe and for the first time she decides to partner with somebody.the fated meeting between Subaru and Nico Jasma the blind, handsome and extremely talented dancer is indeed fated. with Nico by her side Subaru will get to know a lot of new things and discover new sides of herself.
the dancing, the emotion and the intense yet unique character of Subaru are still present in this first volume and the ones that are following it.
this manga is highly recommended to the fans of Dance Subaru, of ballet dancing, as well as the fans of Masahito Soda-sensei.
