•Brief summary
This book is about a little tugboat named Pop and and very large ship named Toot. Toot thinks that because he is big and strong he will never need any help. He refuses to allow Pop to guide him into the harbor. Toot tries to come into the harbor on his own. In doing so he ends up getting hurt and breaking a wall. Toot learns that every one needs help sometimes.

•Audience
Pre-school

•Appeal
The pictures look like a childs coloring book. They have big solid colored pictures that cover the whole page. The story is very simple and short for young children.

•Implementation
I would use this book to talk about asking for help. Everyone needs help sometimes. I
would than ask the children to tell me a time when they needed help. Part of being a good friend is being a good helper.

Toot and Pop was a fun read for little ones! It's a good story to help kids understand the value and importance of helping one another and that everyone matters. Those are great things to read about for kids! The title is appealing because of the excitement it brings- "toot and pop!" just sounds like fun! It is nice for kids to have the sounds that different boats make written out, so they can learn how to make the sound and navigate through what it would be like once it is written. I would probably not have chosen the "toot" and "pop" sounds for these boats, but it's a great visual! I liked it :) The illustrations were fun and engaging as well- lots of colors and scenes. Loved it!

This could be a cute book to use in teaching a few behaviors: patience, apologizing, forgiving, working hard. It's a bit predictable if you're older, but will be really good for the young kids. I think my favorite part were the expressions on all of the inanimate objects. Such happy ships. If my cruise ship is that happy, maybe I won't be so afraid to go in a couple of months!

Could be a fun lap-read. Maybe would work in a storytime, but I'd have to see.

Pop is a tugboat. His job is to help the big boats get in and out of the harbor safely. When Toot the steamship arrives Pop is astonished at his size. When he introduces himself, Toot makes it clear that he does not need any help getting around. Toot then proceeds to try to speed his way out of the harbor, injuring himself and the harbor. Finally he accepts Pops' help to get him back into the harbor for repairs.

A great book for patience, acceptance and humility.

The bold, bright colors and the simple story in this picture book (where the little tugboat is the hero) really appealed to me. This is a great read-aloud and will appeal to children who like boats, sound effects, and *** SPOILER ALERT *** crashes. Luckily, everything turns out OK in the end.

The art is the attraction here--bright and appealing. The story is barely there--little boat works hard, big boat ignores little boat and gets hurt, little boat comes to the rescue. The sort of kids who love "Thomas the Tank Engine" type storytelling will go for this one.

You'll have fun making the "pop, pop, popping" and long "t o o t" sounds which the little tugboat Pop and the large liner Toot make. Bold, bright illustrations and brief, engaging text make this a good choice for sharing with story time attendees.

Great for kids who like transportation and Thomas the Train (if they're willing to diversify to boats).

TOOT! Sea Wall! (Sam randomly used vocabulary [sea wall] from this book when playing with his planes, "This is Dusty Crophopper. Uh-Oh, he crash into the sea wall.")

Great book for preschoolers, especially boys, although girls would enjoy the sweet illustrations and message of friendship as well.
