What a series! Many characters, well-written back-stories and personalities and in-depth explanations. This series tells of an eternal struggle between the good and the bad, also known as Light and Shadow. As in other books, everything rests on the shoulders of one young man, who has a mentor who dies. But what sets this series from others is the level of detailing. If you're a person who loves sub-plots within sub-plots within plots, then this book is for you!

Fairly standard good v evil fantasy but because there are so many books there is a lot of scope for complicated sub-plots that make it harder to identify the hidden bad guys. Every time you think that the main characters are working towards a resolution someone does something unexpected which adds another layer of complications and makes you doubt your suspicions as to who's on which side. Very readable and lots of fun.

Great series, gets tough going in the middle but great start and great ending. One of the few series were the end isn't an anti climax
