What goes bump in Boise? Searching the darkness of the City of Trees reveals what lurks in the liminal spaces. Idaho's capital city is dotted with haunted residences, hotels and penitentiaries where many still reside in death. Two youngsters lives were cut short, but their spirits never left their childhood homes. Strange specters prowl the foothills, including hooded figures seeking sacrifices. Strange objects patrol the skies. Spooks haunt local prison cells and frighten at a historic fort. Authors Mark Iverson and Jeff Wade collect ghoulish tales that have become local folklore, while setting the record straight.
This was a fun read. A lot of the stories were new to me despite living here since 2006. We also live within 5 miles or so of most of the featured places (minus the Idaho State Correctional Institution).
This was a fun book to read. As someone who has lived in the Boise area for most of my life, I was familiar with many of the legends recounted here. However this book includes a lot of details I wasn’t aware of, and also dispels some of the rumors and myths. I would love to see a follow-up book covering some of the other alleged haunted locations in Boise.
This is a great collection of haunted places in Boise. The book does a great job of covering a mix of the most famous and lesser known spots. Likewise they share some less known details and even dispel some well known but disproved details. Overall an interesting and well researched mix.
Haunted Boise is the perfect companion for a self-guided tour of what remains of the spooky facades from the stories told within the pages of this book. Mark and Jeff scour credible sources to deliver the most honest accounts at the best of their ability. They’ve solidified themselves as assets in the historical community of Idaho.
