I found this true crime story fascinating. Using primary sources--letters and newspaper accounts--the author puts together this story that is horrifying in so many ways, not just the murder. Also a wonderful slice of life during and just after the Civil War.

Not a fast read but important if you are interest in law and women's rights. It is a well researched book.
