I cannot recommend this book enough! I think it really put to words all the things I’ve been struggling with and deciphering with my career path while at the same time giving me great leadership advice. Please read this, the world should read it.
Major Takeaways:
1) leaders are superheroes with their own a) set of superpowers, b) mission, and c) unique identity
2) you cannot be a superhero if you aren’t able to use your superpowers; otherwise, you’re wasting your time
3) know your kryptonite and how to wield it for good
4) you are at your best when you are fully invested in your own story
5) superheroes can’t win on their own
6) brains need closure to learn, rest, and build energy, so make sure to recap and celebrate at the end of your chapter/story
Solid leadership book packed with empathy-driven, human-centered insights and storytelling. Enjoyed that the author includes questions for us as readers to answer, and I look forward to using these as journaling prompts on my own and with my team. I work in product design and very much appreciated how tech-geared a lot of the conversations were. Examples of clients were very helpful, but I would have loved some very in depth case studies. Overall would definitely recommend! Well written and I enjoyed working through this.
I didn’t learn much new from this book. Few (realistic) stories about different team/boss/employee situations, plenty of superhero examples and parables. Couple of thoughts how to find your unique qualities or that changing is possible but might hurt… Not too bad but perhaps i have read enough shallow topic books about leadership and sort of everything…
This book aids in self-reflection through story-telling - surfacing what are the stories we tell ourselves and how those impact our behavior. It's all given in examples of leaders (in tech) and how their leadership effectiveness is impacted by their internal stories.
