A sadistic killer stalks the secluded college town of Brooksfield, New Hampshire. With bodies piling up and rumors of the murders being part of sacrificial hazing rituals, the FBI plants Special Agent Steve Williams in a fraternity at Brooksfield University. His investigation takes a ninety degree turn into the bizarre when he’s introduced to Jennifer, a clairvoyant co-ed who swears the killer isn’t human.
Steve considers the plausibility of the extraordinary, the unspeakable, even the inconceivable, when his notebook starts bleeding cryptic messages. Messages that indicate Jennifer is at the heart of the darkness in Brooksfield.
When she describes her latest vision, a trail of violent deaths, including his, Steve asks the million-dollar question:
Is Jennifer trying to help... or is she actually the one responsible?

I really like J.E. Taylor's books about Steve Williams, but I have to say this story took on a strange supernatural curveball that I am still not 100% I understand. I get most of it, but it's very odd. I liked all the characters and most of the storyline, but felt the supernatural aspect of this story just threw off the entire storyline. However, I am not turned off by J.E. Taylor and I am off to read another. : )

The romance was horrible, the fake fights were just stupid and the thriller, even for a paranormal thriller, was horrendous. I wouldn't even call this a thriller. Half the time I was struggling to keep my eyes open out of boredom but it's too early in the month to be DNFing books so I struggled to the end. The characters were immature, uninspiring and felt so fake that connecting to them in any way was impossible. I didn't even hate any of the so called villains and to be honest i cant remember a single name from the book.I wouldn't be upset if I never came across anything else from this author again.. im pleased I got this for free because it would have been a waste of money, it was definitely a waste of my time.
I really like love the novel. I like the plot-line. It was mystery and supernatural in a blend that work out very well. The really loved the characters and the bad guys and creature.
Finally a novel that the issues of rape, that shows the scene and that is not glorifies like some others. I didn't like how it was suppose to be Jennifer two years ago at all and that Tom did that. It was very gross and hellish. I don't feel sorry for any of the asses [ Adam, Jake, Bill, Stan and Joe] deaths. I do find that they deaths were too short.
Wow, this author can also write, excellent thrillers too. This was very good from start to finish. Twists and turns all the way. I shall definitely have to read book two, to see what happens. Highly recommended.
This was such an amazing book, the first of the Steve Williams novels and man oh man was this a book that I did not want to put down. It's a paranormal crime thriller that holds your attention from start to finish. I had read quite a few of J.E. Taylor's books as part of a book club and Agent Steve Williams was in a couple of them. His character so intrigued me that I had to read his story from the beginning which was this very book. This author had me hooked with her Night Hawk series and continues to draw me in with This series. She is a fabulous writer and I can't wait to read the next adventure that Agent Williams goes on.
5.0 out of 5 stars best book, July 15, 2010 By Ruxandra Vasilescu It is a great book. I was planning to read few pages and I end up not let it go until I finished the last sentence. This book has everything you can ask: romance, mystery and suspense. It is easy to read, keep your alert during the reading. Believe me you cannot put the book down for to long. Great, great book. Enjoy reading it. I am ready for the next one.
