Aphotic Born

Rate this book
Her enemy, his forbidden mate, and the war that brought them together.

Slave. Monster. Huntress.

Raven has lived under the weight of many names and none at all. What she’s never had is freedom, and now that she’s stolen it, she’ll do anything to keep it. Even if that means getting close to the very beasts she was trained to kill.

Claiming a drunken one-night stand was never how Logan intended for his night to end. He especially hadn’t expected the perfectly human-smelling woman to run off before he could get her name, but now that she wears his mark, there’s no going back. They’re irrevocably tied together, and it’s clear that she has secrets.

Vampires and Lycans were born to fight, but they'll be forced to help each other save those they care for most.

Who knew war could breed such tempting enemies?

Welcome to Immortal's End.

I really enjoyed Raven and Logan's slow burn love story. The way he continued to be supportive to her after everything she had endured was a real testament to his devotion. The way the story is written takes you into both their psyches and has you feeling all the emotions a bond like theirs created. It also had just the right amount of spice. I am definitely looking forward to reading more about this world and from this author.

The cover pulled me in straight away.
I did find that it was slow to begin with but after a while it drew me in.
This has romance, a ghost best friend that acts as a brother, a matchmaking sister, a war that threatens the world. This is a slow burn romance with a very interesting twist.
Looking forward to reading more of Raven and Logan in the next book.

A wonderful slow burn with a high payoff.
Logan and Ravens love story. Their relationship evolves as the story progresses. There’s the right amount of spice for this story’s pacing.

This is book one in the series and I can’t wait for book 2!

The book takes too long to explain basic facts about the world that the MCs already know, which makes it unnecessarily difficult to follow along. The sentence structure is also kind of dense and meandering in a way that slows down comprehension. I’m not sure if I got used to it or if it actually gets better in the later half of the book.

I would recommend to all authors that if you’re going to include lines in a foreign language in your book, make sure you understand the language and don’t just rely on google translate. Otherwise you get cringey sentences like “Les morts n’habitent pas” (literally “the dead don’t live” where “live” is in the incorrect sense of “reside”) when you mean to say “the dead don’t dwell” (“dwell” as in “ruminate”).

Anyway, once you get past the first third of the book, it actually gets pretty good. It’s a story about a heavily abused and traumatized young woman finding herself in yet another situation she can’t get out of, where the people around her are genuine, normal folks who aren’t trying to harm her, and she spends most of the book trying to figure out their “angle” while fighting the pull of the MMC’s claim on her.

The first 30 - 50% were surprisingly good for a new author. Minus a few editing issues I was able to overlook, the setup was nicely done and the character stories compelling. Then it felt super rushed, with new characters randomly thrown in without introductions, a bizarre 4 horseman theme, and BDSM where the girl who WENT THROUGH HORRIFIC ABUSE had to be the submissive??? It just felt backwards. I wanted to like this book and there was a lot of good at the beginning, but it really lost me at the end.

This is one of the best books I have read this year, it had me mesmerized reading non-stop I kept wanting to know what would happen in the next chapter I devoured this book in three days and if I didn't have to work it would be less time. Raven is such a well-executed character, her story had me enchanted, a sad story that broke my heart but without losing the desire to finally have freedom, each thing I kept discovering about her in the book left me even more amazed as each time read you discover things leaving you on the edge of wanting to get more information and not stop until you know everything. Supernatural beings will always make my favorite fantasy plot and the way she creates this world by intertwining them is truly wonderful.

Logan and Raven the love is so pure, how it evolves little by little in the book. Logan is perfect in every way he did whatever it took to make her feel safe from day one. He loves her no matter who she is, however, she looks like the love for both of them is unconditional. They both doubt themselves because in both their eyes they are wonderful and they believe that they do not deserve each other. You can feel everything that happens to them in the story: the emotion, pain, and suspense of knowing what will happen to them. The book had everything romance, drama, action, spice, wars, vampires, wolves, witches, demons, ghosts, a sister who plays matchmaker, a jealous friend, and a dead best friend who loves to make jokes.

I can't wait to read more about this wonderful world and how Logan and Raven's love story evolves. Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this wonderful story by letting me read this ARC. For me, it's 5 stars were perfect, a well-executed world, and characters with a very good story, even though the characters were on opposite sides of the war they managed to find each other and go against each other.

ARC in exchange for a review, no connection to the author, these views are my own.

The slow burn, enemies to lovers, romance between the two MCs was very well done. In their resistance the author really explores their psyches and mental well-being, slowly revealing the extent of their trauma. Some wicked layers to the story unveil as the plot continues. There were a few times I was like ‘eurgh, come on already!!!’ But that was mostly my desire to see the MCs find their ever after.

There were a handful of loose ends left unanswered which even a week on are bugging me. The ending was cute, no edge-of-seat cliffhanger though, so I assume these threads were left dangling intentionally to be dealt with in book 2.

There are trigger warnings at the beginning which I recommend paying attention to as the book references memories of being captive and abused.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story! So much so I devoured it in 2, days until my housemate knocked to check I was alive. Only downside really is that being an ARC there isn’t even a release date for book 2 to count down to!

Ugh! This book had me invested into it. The writing is crazy amazing. The plot is logical and so believable for the storyline. The characters each in their own is truly fantastic. Raven is a bad you know what character that mo Lucan or Vampire should mess with. However, my serious reader in me heart fell. Raven age I would have like to be a little older. Perhaps twenty four or older. Being a young woman twenty-one is more interested in going out partying, what’s the latest social media craze and shopping with friend versus hunting down vampires and Lycans through the dark streets of town. I’m supposed to believe that her young mind is capable of comprehending and making or execute quick decisions when there is a matter of life or death? Again the writing is great. The writer has high probabilities of being a potentially well known writer such as . J. R. W. Read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is truly and honestly one of the best books I’ve ever read. You feel every single emotion each character feels. You understand the raw vulnerability behind their actions and thoughts. It’s like a window to their soul (dramatic I know, sue me😂).
The author takes an age old Werewolf/Vampire story and turns it into something new and enticing. It’s a new world like I’ve never read before. When I tell you I couldn’t put it down… I’m already having a hard time putting words to the awe (and yes I do mean that…literal awe) I felt while reading this amazing beginning to two characters I already love. I hope there are many more books to come. Also wouldn’t mind a few novellas too. 😉 You, dear author, just found yourself another lifer reader. Thank you for allowing me this wonderful ARC. ❤️

Compelling story but I almost DNFd due to the first 30% or so of the book. Every word has a descriptor. And the author inexplicably has a habit of repeating the same thing using different words, often within the same paragraph. But if you can get past that first part the story will grab you. I’m glad I stuck with it. I did find the religion/war aspect somewhat confusing. It’s written like the reader knows more about it but it’s never fully unpacked. I can’t tell if it’s intentional and more will be shared later or if it’s poor organization. Regardless, I intend to move on to book 2. The connection between the characters is palpable and I’m a glutton for an FMC who’s suffered cruelly and an MMC who’s devastated to know of it.

This book. this book. I don't even know where to begin, but I will say it's one of my favourite books of all time. The love story and broken characters this author writes just grabs a hold of your heart and squeezes every ounce of emotion out of it. The struggle to believe one's worth, the partner who worships her, it just feeds my soul. I absolutely recommend this book.

Elizabeth Myrva is the next big thing. I would buy anything she writes next. If she were to scribble something on a peace of toilet paper, I'd buy that and be HAPPY about it.

I was a little worried in the first chapter that the book was going to be a hot mess. There were some grammatical errors and sentences that were too long with too many descriptive words in them.
However, as I moved past the first few chapters, I became so intrenched in this beautiful story that if there were any more little errors, I didn’t notice. The words that make up Logan and Raven’s story are wonderful and full of so many emotions! A beautiful roller coaster throughout. I’m actually sad that there’s no second book in the series yet. I look forward to reading more.

✨ARC REVIEW ✨

This shifter/magic story follows raven through her journey to escape the creatures who have used her as a weapon to fight the lycan community and abuse her all her life.

Along the way she is claimed by a lycan after a drug infused one night stand and spend the rest of the story trying to avoid completing the claim whilst be unable to avoid the pull of it.

Whilst dealing with the sexy and kind lycan who claimed her she is caught between which side of the war to fight for, whilst dealing with her own psychological issues.

This book did a great job of grabbing me from the start. The characters came to life easily and their struggles to find their way to one another kept me engaged.

The supporting characters were also fleshed out well and served a purpose for the plot that seemed valid.

The pace was good, giving enough time to become more emotionally connected to the characters and understand the plot line.

The only flaw is that the magic and creature system wasn't clearly explained enough for me. It was as if the author understood it and therefore didn't understand the need to make others see it. I think if you had read other books in the series first this would make more sense, however if you picked up this book first (as I did) a was left trying to connect the dots a few times.

But overall I loved this book! 4 ⭐ for me.

Soul Mates

What a breathtaking story of true love! How my heart went out to Raven. She was tortured, used, beaten, and bullied, but through all that still had so much good in her heart. Logan the Alpha lycan, what can I say besides he was pretty much perfect. He loved Raven no matter what her true features looked like from all the torture she had been through, his love was deeper than looks.
This was a great start to a new World, highly recommend it!
I've read this author’s short story Prowl and it was really good to be a short read!

Just not great, the flow gets broken during conversations when there like a page and a half of inner monologue that you forget where you are in the story. And the FMC gets presented as a mystery type badass but then tumbles into a “idk, I need a man to save me” type really disappointed. She wants to escape but at certain opportunities where it would be a smart move to open her mouth and communicate it’s lost into another inner monologue. The spice doesn’t appear till 50% through the book and it’s just okay like 2 chilli peppers AT BEST. Most definitely not going to continue to the next book.

I loved this book!
I went in with a vague expectation of the usual vampire/werewolf story and got something so much better!
The Story had so many new elements, unexpected twists, and you couldn't help but love the main characters and feel what they felt. Paired perfectly with great side characters (hello dead best friend!), and all the angst you need.
Highly recommend and can't wait to see what's next!

It took me a minute to fully get into this book but once you do you get hooked! I did not want to put this book down last night
This is not your typical werewolf/vampire book. I absolutely love the world the author created. You can feel the characters emotion in this book. I absolutely can not wait to read more from this author!
A one night stand turns into something they never imagined being possible. They are fighting on opposite sides of a war. How can they ever be together?

Woah! This book is amazing. The tragedy. The triumph. It is beautiful.

Raven is a bamf! She is strong. She does what she needs to survive. Even when she doesn't necessarily want to.... Her sharp tongue is hilarious. She has a fire inside.

Logan is delicious. He is unequivocally strong. Yet he is gentle. With his sister, his accidental mate, with the children in the town. His stubbornness is adorable. His restraint is commendable.

Cassy is strong in her own right. She doesn't just bow.

Gabe. I love me some Gabe. He is caring and wise. He is hilarious! He is such a good bestie/big brother.

This book had me on the edge of my seat. The story never lags. There's definitely some spice! Read the trigger warnings. There are some heavy topics. If they're not your triggers, I 10/10 recommend!

very interesting

This author paints a picture… it’s pretty interesting the amount of life given to the FMC - I love her
There are definitely TW to be sure but I found the story highlighted the weight of trauma and how it distorts our self worth when the FMC is actually the strongest survivor and worthy of being loved and respected. I was engrossed by the very descriptive story and intrigued by the mythology. Spice level is 5/5 so yay for that too.

This book lives rent-free in my head. I've read it so many times. I constantly find myself looking back at scenes and rereading them. It has everything—romance, heat, a sassy dead best friend, a matchmaking little sister, a war that threatens to destroy everything we love...

I can't wait to find out what's next for Raven and Logan.

I enjoyed absolutely everything about this book, I couldn't put it down. I love Raven and her fiery attitude, and who doesn't love a good traumatic background? Nothing felt rushed, and everything felt well explained, so I didn't feel like I was missing any information at any point. I can't wait to read more in the future!

Romantic Fantasy • Shifter • Slow Burn

I loved Raven! Strong character. Tragic backstory. She was just amazing. My heart hurt for her. Logan was amazing too. Opposite sides, fighting for love.

Ahhh the plot to this was so good! I loved the world building and slow burn that this book had.

Can’t wait for more 🤍

Aphotic Born is an emotional rollercoaster but it's all worth it in the end. Raven and Logan's love is a beautiful display of healing after trauma, when two halves, however broken come together to make a whole. The characters are spirited and their world is complex with a rich lore I'm excited to explore more. I can't wait till the rest come out!

The romance is top-tier - Raven and Logan have such a beautiful love story. An absolute emotional rollercoaster.

I cannot wait for the next book💕

nice quick series and I like the characters / type of fantasy creatures but there were a few plot holes that I think were the result of the two books being short - could've been told at a slower pace and it would have been less confusing at points. still good if you're looking for a quick little dark smart read
