This series was going so well. The second "book" (130 pages? please.) ended on a cliff hanger & i dutifully downloaded this third one to find out what happens, only to be met with recap. Seriously? You don't stop in the middle of an intense, powerful scene then begin the next book with a recap and a "wow, that was a mistake, i shouldn't have done that." So already i was irritated, then i was hit with the made up word from the 1st 2 books that the author decided to spell differently in this book. Through the entire book. Why am i so annoyed? Here's the word people: efanotate. It's how a demon blinks out & travels through space, re-materializing somewhere else. Not an easy word, right? But i was getting it. In this book, that word is now effonate. Not efanotate. Effonate. Oh. My. God. At least spell your own made up words right!!!! I almost quit reading right then, & should have, because the story continued to fall off course & piss me off & now i don't care about the so-called heroine, the demons, or the stupid made up words. So there.
Holy toledo! TORN grabs you from the first sentence and won't let you go! Not even after you finish the book! Ward did an amazing job of sending me on an emotional roller coaster with Ivy and everything that happened! There were "awe" moments as well as "wth" moments and everything that comes in the middle of those. This is a major plot twister in the series and I'm DESPERATE to know what happens in the next book!
Man oh man was that dramatic.....After making the only decision she thought might end the prophecy, Ivy realizes she only made it worse. New characters and circumstances are introduced in this one that might be game changers. Loved how this story touched more on the Good vs. Evil battle and my heart was ripped out when Ivy is betrayed by someone she trusts. Why do I have to wait so long for the next one? TORTURE...
This series has grown to be one of my favorites and H.M. Ward does not disappoint with Torn. The ending left me heart broken and craving to know what will happen next. Characters have went in directions I never imagined they would. I am looking forward to see what happens next and January can't come fast enough! I still hope for a happy ending for the characters that I have become attached to! Well done!
WHAT!!!!!!! Ok, way to make me cry at the end of a fight scene!! I'm pretty devastated by the whole ending! Ivy now had no one and that's so lonely.... And it sucks! But as usual, this series is so well written and the words just flow! I'm sad and anxious but can't wait until I can read Satan's Stone..... Now I have so many questions- like will this stone be all it's hyped up to be?
Argh why did it have to end so soon. I want the next one right now. January can not come soon enough. I really enjoy this series, it gets better with each book. I just wish that they were longer because they always seem to end too soon.
Writing reviews for the Demon Kissed series, I'm starting to feel like a broken record. How many times do I have to explain how amazing these books are? Like its predecessors, Torn is a thrilling read. Bursting with action, unexpected twists, and powerful characters, it kept me reading without stop until the end.
There were multiple occasions while reading Torn that I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Constantly, Ivy was fighting for her life against the evils that stalk her. Many authors seem to have an irrevocable fear of putting their characters in any sort of actual danger, but that is not the case with H.M. Ward. There was never a point in the book that Ivy was safe. And if I wasn't getting caught up in the unending action and suspense, I was having my mind blown by a new plot twist. Things would happen that would take me completely off guard, leaving me with my mouth hanging open and my heart beating wildly. I loved it! So many times while reading books I find myself guessing what will happen spot-on, chapters ahead. I never had that problem with Torn, and it seems to be a trade mark of the Demon Kissed series as a whole. Another constant of the series is the amazing characters.
How can so many terrible things happen to one person? But they continue to happen for Ivy, and instead of succombing to her fear and taking the fetile postion in a closet somewhere (as I would likely do in her situation), she remains the strong and caring heroine that I love. Ivy does have a bit of a trust issue, however. Whether she was keeping things from them to keep them safe or because she was unsure of where their loyalties lie, Ivy often kept important information from the people that cared about her. While I sometimes wished she would "spill the beans", I understood her reasoning. And after all that she has been through, after all the betrayals she has faced, it would be odd if she wasn't a bit wary. And one can never guess when there will be another unforeseen twist in the story and one of them does betray her.. Or try to capture and kill her for turning them Valefar.
In Cursed, Ivy accidentally turned Eric into a Valefar. Sweet, caring, cute Eric. Now a crazy, sadistic, undeniably attractive monster. Talk about fun reading! He was cruel and did things unimaginable to the person that he once was. Eric once cared for and protected Ivy, but now, all bets are off. It was very fun to read and I soaked up every word of it. Eric isn't Ivy's only Valefar friend that is dangerous though. Collin, Ivy's love and soul mate, is now a wild card after what she saw in Kreturus' cave at the end of Cursed. Is he still possessed, and would Kreturus hear and use her secrets against her if she told them to Collin? It's no wonder Ivy keeps secrets.
While I pinky promise not to give anything away, I will warn you about the end. H.M. Ward likes her drop-your-jaw endings and Torn was no exception. In fact, I think I can safely say that Torn was the biggest cliffhanger yet. I won't say why, of course, but I would most definitely have the next book, Satan's Stone, at the ready if you want to keep your sanity.
Torn was yet another amazing addition to the Demon Kissed series. It continued the refreshingly original story with the same Demon Kissed trademark of constant excitement and things that conpletely blindside you, all in its alluringly dark packaging that many books greatly lack.
oh boy. So before I started Torn I reread my review of Cursed to remember what I thought of everything. Now that I've finished this one.. I've changed my mind about almost all the blurbs I wrote about the characters. I absolutely loved Eric and decided I was going to forgive him for all his valefar crimes before I even started this one. I changed my mind. He's one evil motherf-. Sneaky little demon boy needs his soul back. And Collin! Are you kidding me? After the whole ' I'm willing to be torchered for all eternity for you my love!' bit from the last book he has to go and be a well rounded character with flaws and mistakes and stuff. Why oh why can't you be boringly perfect. Oh...This is suppose to be a good book with twists conflicts and interesting characters not a unicorns and rainbows fairy tale? huh. weird. Ivy's still pretty cool. She was kinda overly angry at Lorren in the beginning I mean he did just save your life..sort of. Then again who wouldn't be a little cranky if their selfless attempt to kill themselves to save the world was stopped mid swing. After that I was expecting her to grow a little more as a character and take some responsibility for her actions and her unchangeable future. Nope. Ah well maybe next book.
The only real problem I had was the whole Kreutus(spelling=fail?) possession thing. It was the big finish in Cursed and the giant cogwheel that set the whole plot in Torn in motion but after the poisoning happened it was all like. Just Kidding! Oh? You actually thought I was going to possess him? Opsies. How bout you just don't mention me for an entire book even though I'm the main evil dude. K? k.
Despite my attepts to be clever and witty I really liked this book and the whole series. I love the characters and hope in the end they all do have their happy mushy gushy fairy tale ending. Unless they turn permanently irrevocably evil. Then they must be stopped.
YAY!! Collin and Ivy are FINALLY together (by that I mean they found each other in Hell people, I mean that literally and figuratively.) "Collin's gaze intensified as he realized that I was still alive and in his arms. His fingers clasped the sides of my face, as he lowered his head and pressed his lips to mine, tasting me as if he couldn't believe I was really there." I was screaming YES!!!! ABOUT TIME! FINALLY! I'm telling you in this book I'm not sure if it's insecurities that are coming out or if it's a "hey let's make the other guy jealous and brag about my time with Ivy." Seriously Collin and Eric have their priorities all messed, and need to get their crap together. Too many secrets people, just too many secrets. One that actually makes Collin explode: "Collin screamed, "You turned him Valefar! You gave him a demon kiss? How could you? How could you do something, so evil after I've told you everything?" I'm thinking it's insecurities...then I was thinking look whose calling the kettle black Collin, you gave her your blood and it's doing some mumbo jumbo on her, and you have the balls to yell at her for doing something she thought was right. Cliffhangers not my friend, seriously I hate them! Still like "Demon Kissed" better though, I enjoyed this book, and some of it's moments but "Demon Kissed" is the one that I love dearly.
lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeedddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd it the ending was so OMG and poor ivy and collin and al
I liked it. Didn't love it. Was irritated at Ivy most of the book and felt there wasn't much addition to the plot, I was just reading to get to the end. Like this cover a lot more than the last and looking forward to the next installment.
Wow, Wow, Wow!!!! This series is fantastic. The things that happen to poor Ivy are gut-wrenching. I feel so bad for her. The way this book ends is unbelieveable. I can not wait for the next book. Everybody better watch out. Ivy is tough and loyal. Such a great character.
I'm in love with these series, thank god Ive read it after all the books were out because after I finished the last book, I couldn't wait till what happened next.Yu can tell there's a love triangle forming, ahah I'm so depressed ! Loved the book though !!
Demon Kissed is one of my favourite series which never got me bored while reading it,all the three books in the series are fantastic totally loved it can't wait for the next in the series....
the next book isn't out until next year.....don't know how long I can hold out. Love the book and the series, Ivy is awesome and the name is hot if I say so myself.
OMG this series is on fire I love Ivy Collin and Eric ever more then my daughter and her friends. I had only read this authors Arrangement series this past January. I didn't even realize she wrote YA series too. I love this authors imagination and the story building around each character. Review I wrote for book 1 still applues: Buy this entire series (it's a box set now) these books including the 2 novellas are so good I can't describe in words how truly exciting and full of suspense they are to experience. Warning the Book 6 Assassin Fall of the Valfur Eric's book isn't available online. You must buy that in paperback on Amazon as all the other book stores like B&N are sold out. Made me insane trying to find it online that I even wrote the author to find out how to purchase it through her but she must not answer questions on this series anymore because my daughter & I did not get any response back. This is in my Top 5 best read YA books. Its VERY GOOD wish I could give it more then 5 stars! I binge read these in 3 days as I could not put them down. My yard work was never started and laundry not Monday all last week. Was so worth the 2 mornings of book hangovers I suffered too.
This was it for me. I couldn't go on with the book. I didn't even get half way but I just couldn't torture myself anymore. Ivy Taylor is the worst character I have ever read and I have read some really bad books. There are no words to describe her, just think of the person you hate, and double her personality. That is Ivy. Seriously why would she be the person to have to safe the world?
I found the premise of this series to be interesting but I think the execution was lacking. To be perfectly honest, it was just okay. Nothing special but it wasn’t terrible. I didn’t fall in love with the characters but I didn’t particularly dislike them either. Everything about this series was just meh to me which was quite disappointing because this genre is exactly the kind of books I enjoy. I just think that there are a lot better books/series out there with similar plots and better characters.
In regards to the plot, I felt that there were a lot of going back and forth. It was a bit messy and a very confusing because the characters would do something then realize that hey, nevermind, why did we do this? They were never on the same page so some of the characters would unintentionally hijack someone else’s work. There were also a lot of creatures out there that made it seem even more complicated especially with the Omen. Plus the author never fully explained what exactly that meant and why the Omen was there in the first place. It was little things like that that confused me. I just like having things explained or understood.
As for the characters specifically Ivy, I never really understood her. I found her a little spoiled, a tad immature, quite dumb, and very stubborn. Granted, I know she was trying to do the right thing the entire time but the way how she went about it, I found it absolutely ridiculous. I mean, going around and making blood bargains with demons for the sake of defeating another demon? That just spelled stupidity to me. She didn’t even bother asking for help or advice from any of her much more clear-headed or knowledgeable friends. Instead, she pretty much went for it without a second thought. And even though she kept trying to save her friends, the choices that she would make always ended up jeopardizing them. Especially with the whole Eric drama. I couldn’t even begin to fathom why Ivy made the choice that she did to save him even though she knew what he thought of it. Yet she did it anyways and called it “saving” him. And then with the whole Collin thing. She kept endangering herself when she knew the prophecy was at stake simply because she couldn’t risk him. She didn’t even know if it would ultimately kill him or not. She wasn’t willing to even try which put the whole world at stake. For someone who was trying so damn hard to save the world and go against that prophecy, that one single decision that she kept making over and over again was unfathomable.
As for the whole Collin/Ivy relationship, can I just please say, where the fuck did that come from? I got the chemistry from him in book one but not once did Ivy return any of those feelings to him yet suddenly they were soulmates and he was the only one for her? Pray tell, what happened? In fact, she treated him as a friend only and their interactions from her side basically screamed friendzoned to me. Yet, how did things change so dramatically?
Overall, the series was just okay. There is a sixth book out there but I read somewhere that it’s no longer available and I don’t see the point in investing more time on this series. Plus, the series technically ended on book 5 and the sixth book is merely a spinoff from Eric’s POV. I’m not sure if I would recommend the series but if you have time and you want to read an angel vs demon series, then I guess you can give this one a try.
Negatives: 1) I am still a Demon Kissed fan, but the last two books, Cursed and Torn, haven’t been up to par with the first novel in this series, Demon Kissed. Now that we are three books into this series, I feel like there should be a lot more progress with Ivy’s characters. I want to read about a strong, positive heroine, but Ivy is still the same whiny and impossible girl. I understood and forgave Ivy for her behavior in the first novel because she had just discovered she was half demon- half angel and everyone wanted her dead. That’s a lot to take on. I understood her anger, tears, and woe is me attitude. However, I expected a lot more improvement with her character by now. Ivy- It is time to step up, kick butt, and take names! Get with it girl!
2)The beginning of this novel was a tad repetitive. Like I mentioned in my review of Cursed, Ward has a tendency to repeat a lot of things from her previous novels. Because I read the first three novels back- to-back, the repetition caused the beginning of this novel to drag on. I might have welcomed the recap if I had waited a few months in between reading each novel, but I didn’t. In my opinion, authors need to find a happy medium here; refresh your readers, but don’t go overboard in case they are reading your series continuously.
Positives: 1) One thing I've implied but haven't directly praised is Wards ability to shock me, which isn’t an easy thing to do. A lot of authors lead you to the conclusion; they color their pages with hints and foreshadowing. Some authors only give you small clues; some authors are so obvious an eight-year-old could figure things out. Ward doesn't even give you a teeny tiny hint as to what’s going to come next. Every time I pick up a new book, I am amazed by her vision and her creativity. I can honestly say that I haven’t been able to predict any of the SHOCKERS in this series.
2) There was a new character in this novel that I really enjoyed, and I’d like to see more of him in the future. His character added humor and a much needed kick in the butt. Ward did a fabulous job creating his character because I felt calm and peaceful when he was around. (I’m being vague on purpose. His character isn’t a big part of this novel, but I still don’t want to ruin anything.)
3) Things really heated up during the last half of this novel. It’s was surprising and action-packed.
4) I loved that Ivy and Collin have more time together than in Cursed. I was really hoping that would happen.
I gave Torn by H.M. Ward 3 STARS. Torn was a little better than Cursed, but not as good as Demon Kissed. I look forward to reading Satan’s Stone; I really hope it knocks me off my feet the same way Demon Kissed did.
Ward has two more novels and their publication dates listed on her website. Does anyone know if The 13thProphecy is the final book in this series? I'm curious.
