This encyclopedia of embroidery stitches using stranded threads is a comprehensive reference for every embroiderer. The numerous step-by-step photographs and clear instructions show every stage of working a stitch and make even the most complicated techniques easy to follow. Alongside the stitches are practical hints on using different threads and fabrics, tried and tested tips for the beginner and gorgeous projects using and combining the stitches described in the book. Common problems are solved and suggestions given on choosing and storing equipment, starting and finishing and the use of hoops and frames. More experienced embroiderers will find inspiration and ideas for further experimentation and suggestions for using embroidery on clothing, accessories and in the home.
Good enough that I actually spent money on purchasing it, rather than just checking it out repeatedly from the library.
My problem with a lot of embroidery books is that they focus on covering so many techniques (Hardanger, counted cross stitch, ribbon work, etc.) that the instruction for any particular stitch suffers. This book does cover more than just free embroidery, but does not attempt to be encyclopedic, and therefore focuses on showing each stitch rather well.
There are certainly stitches that are missing from this collection, but this is an excellent reference.
An easy to follow, step-by-step, collection of stitches for cross-stitch and embroidery. Uses photographs and shows the actual real-photo result of the stitch. Provides a few examples with ribbon and beads as well.
Great for beginning embroiderers! Step-by-step photographic instructions on tons of stitches. easy to understand and easy to use. I refer to this book often when I'm starting an embroidery project!
