» - Vanessa, lectrice Goodreads
I read this in 20 mins. Excellent series! I just don’t understand why someone why write a 2 chapter book in the middle of a series after a cliff hanger. I thought I read a sample. Love authors otherwise!
The Shifter Island series has hooked me from the start. The first book in the series had me devouring it. The second book was enjoyable, but it didn’t quite wow me in the same way. Midnight King, unfortunately, felt like an unnecessary read.
There were some interesting elements touched upon in this story, but it was not enough to hold my attention in the way the two prior books had. Mostly, it felt like a way to show Rage’s perspective without moving the story forward too much. In some ways, I would label this a bonus rather than a major part of the story. At the same time, there are some hints that the details shared in this one will be relevant in the final book.
My fingers are crossed this is relevant in the next book, otherwise I will be left with the feeling that this could have been skipped.
Who's ready to finally get lost in Rage's head?! If so, your chance is finally here! Raye and Leia have cooked up quite the short story and I'm so excited for you to see it...you're in for one hell of a treat. So make sure you preorder this baby. It's releasing very soon on the 9th of March. Countdown is on. 😀
He's happy dancing his way down to get his book lol 😂
I really enjoyed this book but I definitely wished it was a little longer, but I'm needy like that and not super keen on short books lol...(does that make me a book discriminator? totally relevant question aye lol 😆). I always seem to feel there is something missing in the shorter stories, and can never pinpoint exactly why...I probably just want more but other than that...
Regardless of that though, I really did enjoy reading this book and seeing into our boys head...it's a totally different experience for us to read in his POV, which was super exciting. Our boys head is definitely not in a great place....because as we know, Nai disappeared at the end of book two...and this is where this story picks up, at Rage's coronation. Happy coronation day for him right? lol.
This book had my emotions tied in knots but not quite as much as I wanted or even expected (does that sound as weird as I think it does lol?). Like honestly, I expected to be a lot more tied up by this book...but whilst everything that happened kept me fully engaged, interested and loving the content; I did miss that crazy-obsessed, stressed-out side of me, that usually tags along. But I'm also in a pretty big reading rut and still obsessing over past books I've just finished. So that could explain a lot. Book nerd problems am I right?!

The one thing I really loved seeing in this book, was the brothers bond from an inside vantage. It really connected me on an even deeper level to the brothers. I loved seeing the reliance and trust they had completely in one another...and that no matter what, they were there for each other to help in any way they could...To help Rage find his girl amongst the craziness of him becoming the Alpha King. That really touched my heart, beyond words. It's a truly beautiful bond they have with each other, that's for sure.
Let me dive into the book a little. I won't say much but as I mentioned before, Rage has newly been appointed King...and from there, it's been one crazy thing happening after another. He's trying to balance his new role, whilst trying to find the other part of his soul, Nai. But with his kind being barred from entering the High Mage Realm, you can see the complications that could possibly arise from there. That doesn't mean he and his brothers are going to stop. Nothing will stop them until Nai is right back with them...Nothing and I mean nothing will stop Rage.
But of course, nothing is simple and in the midst of him tracking down ways of getting through to the High Mage Realm... he runs into more problems along the way, and now is trying to clean up the mess his Uncle left behind....as you can all guess, the scum King had shady happenings with many...and now those arrangements are starting to bite the boys in the butt. Good thing Rage and his brothers are a determined bunch...and Rage is more determined than ever, to right the wrongs of the last crazy Alpha King and create a new legacy. His own.
I stared at my signature as emotions rolled through me. This would be my legacy. My Uncle had torn the shifter races apart. I would unite us again.
Someone has a lot of work up ahead. But with his family and friends, he's totally got this.
The High Mages are up to something and are playing a sneaky, dirty game...as I'm sure you all know by now lol. But in this book, you see just how far they will fall to get what they want.
Prepare to see Rage in all of his glory...because he won't stop until his girl, his fated mate, is back by his side. At whatever cost. Even if that means a war that'll shake their world to the very core. Our boy is not playing anyone's game. So to those who have lost their minds and are doing stupid evil things, watch yourself. You probably just made your worst enemy (wait there's no probably about that lol - my bad). I'm just gonna leave you with this little teaser.
“Let. Them. Try.” Fire danced over my skin as my magic flared out of control with my emotions. “I’m the alpha king, and you are my fated mate. If they come between us, I’ll dismantle them, limb by limb, and use them for firewood before I burn their entire realm to the ground.”
Tell me what you are most excited about to see in this book? I can't wait for y'all to read it. I'd love to hear back from you guys so comment below your thoughts. 😀
Eeek, now I just need to get the fourth book. Especially where Leia and Raye left it at. Talk about a crazy finish. It just solidified how much I dislike the Mages. There's a reason I'm betting they have kept their Realm shut off. Gah, I need my answers! This is torture.
This ↓ will be me 1000% when I get my hands on Midnight Truth (Haha my brain is stuck on getting answers, and instead of writing truth, can you guess it? I totally wrote Answers 😂🤷🏻♀️).
Thanks as always to Leia and Raye for this short Novella and look into Rage's mind. I really loved the journey you took me on. Can't wait to see the rest of this story (as I'm sure you guessed by now lol). This book was offered to me as an ARC in place of an honest review. Which is always what I give.
I'm gonna leave it at that. Til next time bookie friends.
Natalie gave me her blessing for me to skip this and I'm going to listen to her before I dislike Rage even more than I already do. Onto the next book in this series 😅
I love when authors give us a look into the mate's head! This Rage POV novella was a wonderful glimpse into his thoughts and emotions in a very hard time for any mate. Instead of being a minor note in Nai's story, Rage has his own short story giving us an in depth look at the complications and choices he faces after being newly crowned king and having his mate immediately disappear but having to hold himself together and continue on. I could have happily read a full length novel from Rage's POV, it was so wonderfully done!
This book - well, really it is a novella - was done in Rage's POV. Normally I am excited to finally get into another POV, especially with a character that is as hard to read as Rage has been. But, for some reason, the Rage that we see in book 3 is worlds different from the Rage of the first two books. There were even times when I wondered if this book was actually written by someone else.
The words do not flow as easily and the writing is choppy. Rage is NOT the confident wolf that we have seen up to this point and his decision skills seem non existent. He is just running from place to place and from problem to problem with no clear idea of what he is doing -at least that is how it appears. Granted, there is a reason he is out of sorts, but his behavior is SO different that it just doesn't gel. Part of me wanted to slap him and say, "Snap out of it..!!"
Also, the plot at this point is very chaotic with lots of problems occurring yet instead of being addressed, they are just glossed over, or haphazardly addressed. His actions just didn't seem consistent with the Rage that we have come to know. I know, I know....his mind was elsewhere but still.....it didn't fit and ended up pulling me out of the story quite often.
And the ending...again, it annoyed me because the conversation that occurred between the two MC's just ended up being more confusing. They BOTH didn't seem to listen to the other and there really wasn't a good explanation given for why a certain someone had to go away. Honestly, things would have gone so much smoother if the two of them had just talked at an earlier time. There could have been information passed along because if the first two books taught us anything, it is that when there is a will, there is a way.
So, this book let me down. And that was after I was so excited to see his POV. Does that mean I'm not moving forward? Ha! Of course not. Every one can have an off day. I, for one, can not wait to see what happens next.
Love Rage!!! 🖤🔥 I love and hate this book 😂 Love it because duh... Rage #sodamnhot 🤤😍 The insight on all the sh**ty stuff Declan did and now are being revealed 😳... So glad he's gone!!! 🤬... But now Rage has to deal with a lot of bad things 😩... Thank God he has his brothers by his side, they are helping him a great deal!!! #boysgang #theyarethebest 🥰 But, all that Rage suffered because Nai's sudden departure 💔😭 #notcool #Iwanttohughim and #lickhim 😁 And then that final chapter 😲🤔... I need the next book stat!!! ❤️
I love this series a lot, but this book...ugh... It was too short and didn't add anything new to the story. And to be completely honest, I liked Rage more before I read his POV, it wasn't interesting at all being in his head. And the worst part...now when Rage is the king, he has complete control over his wolf side, which means...no more Wolf Rage...literally the best thing about this series is gone. Anyway, can't wait to read a final book.
Cool to see Rage's perspective, while we knew he was a hot head it was good to also see him undertaking his new role as King well. I would like to see his perspective when Nai isn't missing and can gain a better understanding of him
I liked getting a different perspective and delving into Rage's mind if even for just a short while. Definitely enjoying every single bit of this. What happens next?
This book was very short - 80 pages according to Amazon. I didn't like Rage in this book. He was very immature and I heard myself saying "oh grow up already" a couple of times. I'm not sure what happened but at one point I found myself wondering why they even bothered with this book. Rage is having his coronation party because he is now the Alpha King and Nai disappears through the mage portal with her grandfather without saying anything. Rage goes nuts and make some stupid decisions. At the 95% point Nai just shows up looking fairly trashed with injuries and dirt and grime all over her. She tells him what happened and drops a bombshell (no spoilers!) on him. He makes a vow. The end.
I loved the first two books in this series. I'm looking forward to the final book, even preordered it. But I feel really let down by this one.
I enjoyed this book but if Leia and Rafe decided not to give us a novella from Rage’s POV while Nai has gone missing I would miss anything from the series. Rage has been crown the Alpha King aka AK after he k*lled his uncle and Nai is missing and he can’t talk to her through their bond. He completely freaks out which is understandable when he finds out that Nai and his brother Honor, one of her shields have gone through the Portal to High Mage Island with her Grandfather Geoff and his shield Reyna. He doesn’t think that Nai would leave him of her own free will but he has no way of getting to her since the portal has closed and all of the High Mages have left. Him and his brother Justice storm to the portal to the human world to try and find a Mage strong enough to make another portal so he can find Nai. They find Nai’s Aunty who tells him that she can’t make a portal since she’s part human and she knows that Nai willingly went but can’t tell him anything further so Rage gives her a message to give to Nai when she sees her. One of the first changes that Rage makes as AK is that he declares that Alpha Island is now Shifter Island and invites all the shifters back home that his uncle forced off the island when he was AK. He has a plan in place about what type of ruler he wants to be and what type of world he wants to rule and live in. After the way the book ended I’m really looking forward to reading the final book. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and authors to everyone.
SYNOPSIS (4 Book Series): FC is the daughter of an alpha of a pack that has been outcast due to her father breaking the shifter law. All shifters are ruled by the Alpha King in conjunction with the Mages (who have power over the different elements). The FC is called to Shifter Island and the Academy for training as all wolves are. There she finds her fated mate and discovers that she is not just a wolf. Initially the FC and MC do not get on and the MC rejects. The MC and his 3 brothers are all nephews of the Alpha king and his heirs. As the story evolves the MC & FC get together and discover that all is not as it seems with the King and the Mages and the FC finds out more about herself and her abilities. Book 4 has a final showdown and a HEA.
Book 1 started strong with a good story line and strong, likeable characters. The required BFF that the FC meets within 5 minutes of joining the Academy and the hot MC and his brothers who are the elites of the Academy follow a predictable pattern as does the FC with the „hard done by“ back story. These all set the groundwork for the developing story. Unfortunately for me the story and writing started to devolve from Book 2 where I found the writing and character of the FC to be juvenile, the dialogue and terminology also to be juvenile. The sudden caving of the MC and his immediate adoration of the FC felt too fast and OTT. I am a big fan of Leah Stone but I feel that this set of books had more of the other author as the writing, dialogue and story were not of the level I expect from LS‘ books.
Whilst enjoyable enough the story followed a predicable path with the FC becoming some super mage/shifter. The way that the Alpha king kept managing to escape his comeuppance was frustratingly manufactured to drag things out and everything seemed to be too simple when it came to the FC/MC winning various battles. I was skim reading by book 3 just to get through the series.
If you are looking for something low level enjoyable with no real surprises then this is a series for you.
I really enjoyed this novella. When this book was announced I was overjoyed to learn that this novella would be told from Rage's POV. I love getting a glimpse inside of the minds of other characters. To see their thought process and experience their feelings. It really broadens the bigger picture and enhances the storytelling. I absolutely love the secondary characters in this series. The Midnight brothers are such enchanting characters. I love them so much. I love seeing their bond and the deep relationship they all have with each other. I liked how Rage embraced his new role as king and I loved seeing his concern for Nai. He didn't seem as possessive as he was in the other books but I chalked that up to the fact that he was also managing his newfound responsibilities as king alpha. Not to mention the fact that things started to go to hell and he was in charge of handling everything along with his efforts to locate Nai. This novella may be short but it still provided a lot of additional information about this world and its characters. I'm excited to see what happens next in this series!
Shifter Island is a magical enclave for adrenaline-laced fantasy fanatics!
Why am I reviewing the first three books in Leia Stone and Raye Wagner's new Shifter Island series at once? I. Could. Not. Stop. Shifter Island is the place to live if you're a BA shifter and happen to have some MageTastic magic - or if you are an alpha wolf in training. For Nai, who is the next alpha of the Crescent Clan, getting invited to attend Alpha Academy a year early is stressful, but being from the only wolf shifter clan kicked off the Island and living in the human world adds a whole lot more anxiety.
Nai's first few weeks find the new student with a new bestie, sassy Kaja from the Harvest Clan, and strangely enough, she also becomes intrinsically tied to the four Midnight Clan princes, Honor, Noble, Courage, and Justice. Nai also discovers a few skeletons in her lineage closet, meets her forever-fated mate, and becomes seriously obsessed with green eyes.
Stone and Wagner gifts readers with an OG fantasy series featuring plenty of treachery, best friend naughtiness, mage wine marathons, blood oaths, masked soirees, and afterlife travel. Magnifique!!!
Hmmm where do I start? I didn’t like this. I felt like Rage’s POV didn’t fit with the personality we got to know through the first 2 books. It seemed disjointed. He came off as a hot mess here with too much going on and he was doing a lot of back and forth. Despite taking over as King and welcoming back all the exiles, he didn’t think to ask John to have some of his people help with the patrol around Dark Row since they know the island so well? Or even to ask what they knew of blood mages/vampires in general? Also Justice trusting the female mage who has no problem calling out the Alpha King on his lack of knowledge just screams that they’re going to be a thing later. If we’re really keeping time correctly/paying attention. All of this happened in less than 48 hours. So Nai got enrolled in Mage Academy, completed a magical obstacle course and somehow overheard the mage’s nefarious plans for her and her true mate… in an entire day?
This Short Story Packs A Punch!😳💔💀🙏💘💥 Long Live The King.👑🐺 (Read using Kindle Unlimited) Midnight King (Shifter Island Book #3)
This was a powerful short story from Rage's point of view right after Nai leaves his coronation to see her Grandfather. His slow dawning that she's missing, his utter panic and fear for her was palpable.😔 Then we're taken through his anger, frustration and feelings of possible betrayal, when he's told she seemed to leave willingly!💔 He knows deep down, as do his brothers, that she'd only have gone for an extremely important reason.😍
His new role as King takes off at warp speed with crisis after crisis. Noble & Justice step into their new roles seamlessly, while Rage struggles to balance his duty & honour as King verses his need to find & protect his fated mate!👑💘 I found this small slice of the brother's pov to be really insightful & enlightening.🌟
I had to wait between book two and three. It was awful because this storyline is so dang good it was hard to stop and wait. I then decided to wait for book four to be released before I started book three. I knew once I stepped back into this world I wouldn't want to stop. The idea of waiting again would just suck even more so I held out. Completing book three was as I thought it would be. Compelling and multi layered in its plot. We get more ideas on how things and people are intertwined but we are left with more questions. Yikes! How can everything be answered and wrapped up in the next book? This ride is so crazy good! I hope all the evil players are outed and the good ones become more powerful. Can't wait to see more interactions with Rage and Nai too. It was their initial chemistry that really set the tone for me.
Really nice to get a little glimpse into Rage's head for once! I love the connection that he has with his brothers and it was cool to see that more in this book and I hope that maybe in the next one we will get some more chapters from his point of view! Definitely like some of the brothers more and have more of a connection after this, can't wait to see if Justice gets a spin off book!
With maybe only a few books left though I do wish with some of the things that are starting to unravel with this novella we had gotten a little more information before now. I get Nai didn't grow up there so doesn't know all of this but would have loved some Rage POV sooner.
A good bridge between the 2 books and gets everyone ready for the craziness thats about to happen, looking forward to it.
I thought the change in P.O.V was intriguing. King Courage (Aka Rage) is becoming a fine king. I love that he is bringing back all the shifters. Especially now that the blood mages (Aka vampires) are on the hunt, and draining people dry. Just when you think you've gotten off the plot twist rollercoaster, you get flung into another loop. Now the high mages want to break Rage and Nia's fated mate bond!? What are these cheeky mages up to? How have they controlled all the races? I still have so many questions that need answered, so I will be moving on to the next rollercoaster ride in the next book in the series. An amazing piece of work yet again, by these lovely authors.
Midnight King by Leia Stone and Raye Wagner is the third book in the Shifter Island series and is told in Rages POV. This is a novella so it will be short. I loved getting to be inside Rages mind. Getting to know how he felt and loved was great. Nai is gone and Rage has no idea what is happening. Doesn't know if she was kidnapped or where she has gone. This book is packed full of action. I loved reading this one even if it was short. The ending leaves you wanting book four right away. Would recommend. If you have read the first two, I would definitely still read this one, even if its a short one.
