Our Review [By LITERAL ADDICTION’s Pack Alpha – Michelle L Olson]: I don’t read Romance; Romance is generally too ‘real’ for me on some levels, and too unrealistic for me on others, which is why I stick to Paranormal Romance, Urban Fantasy, Thrillers and Horror. Yes, I have a dark side, and I thoroughly and gleefully embrace it, so when Scott asked me to read and review Mine: A Love Story, to say that I was apprehensive would be an understatement. Knowing that I forged forward with Breathless after being incredibly apprehensive and ended up loving it -- and Scott’s writing style in general -- was what gave me the extra nudge I needed to read more than the 1st 2 chapters of Mine. Ironically, what has kept me away from Romance in the past is what made me love this book…it’s so REAL, and it’s believable! This Romance may have a Happily Ever After, but the road to that landmark was a rocky one; like they are in real life. As a reader (who just so happened to be a careful daughter growing up in a dysfunctional parental household), I related to each and every piece of this story at a visceral level, and instinctually loved and hated the characters as I can only guess that the author intended. While I find myself wanting to shake and slap most Romance heroines, Heather was like a vivid memory of myself at that age, and while I’m sure I wanted to shake and slap some sense into myself at some point or another, it wasn’t the same as the dreaded ‘damsel in distress’ syndrome I was fearing I’d get from a Romance lead character. She was a strong lead, who worked well with her supporting cast, but was able to hold her own on the page. I loved that about her. Without spoilers I can’t go into the ‘villain’ of this tale, but I can say that he was definitely a character you will love to hate! Now, the idiosyncrasies specific to Mine that a reader can look forward to… If you’ve read Scott Prussing’s Paranormal Romance, Breathless, you get carry over characters, multiple mentions of the book and an entire section in the middle where Breathless’s plotline is discussed. And yes, you will have several, what I called, ‘Déjà vu’ moments, to which Scott replied, “I figured if you can’t plagiarize yourself, who can you plagiarize?” LOL. At the end of the day I devoured a book I wasn’t sure I could even start, all the while developing a kinship with Heather and her Love Story that made me want to call all of my Romance reading friends and tell them to read it ASAP. With that said, I’m doing something I don’t do lightly…I’m giving Mine: A Love Story 5 Skulls. I would recommend it to Adult and Young Adult Romance readers, and anyone who wants a real and believable love story with a hard earned happy ending. Now I just want to interview Scott to see if he’s really the hopeless romantic I’m starting to think he is, and to ask him how in the world he knows so much about college age women’s fashion. ;-)
In the mood for a sweet realistic love story that is based on the music of Taylor Swift? This is it! A sweet romantic novel that follows the pretty much in-the-box life of Heather, a first year college student hoping to escape the confines of home life with bickering parents. Heading to live on her own for the first time ever in the college dorms, she finds that life is full of unexpected surprises. Heather meets her vibrant roommate Marissa, who is her polar opposite and helps Heather break out of the shell that she keeps tightly around her and rarely lets anyone in.
Meeting new people and experiencing the college life doesn’t change Heather that much, though it brings heartache and betrayal from the least likely of sources. I love how Heather develops and grows throughout the book, learning a bit more street smarts and the heart wrenching feel of love gone wrong. In the end, finding love is something that she didn’t have to strive to hard for when it ends up right under her nose. Who would’ve thought? I enjoyed how realistically Scott has written the characters, down to how these girls dress up to go out and the funny injection of their every day speech.
Let me start with I read this book in a day because I couldn’t hardly put it down. I read while I fixed my kids dinner and helped with their homework. I was up till way too early the next day finishing it. It’s a wonderful coming of age kind of story that takes the reader on an emotional journey where the heroine finds herself while a freshman in college.
Heather is a naive young girl who has only had one relationship and that was four years ago. She is ready to spread her wings, but it won’t be easy sailing.
Luckily Marissa, Heather’s new roommate, is almost the complete opposite of Heather. She’s outgoing and always on the hunt for a guy. Heather is lucky to meet an older guy and that’s when she starts to learn that college isn’t all about the books.
I liked the characters in this story because they were more real than some other characters I’ve read. The girls really came together to form a strong bond. The guys weren’t always Mr Perfect. Heather isn’t one to just sit and sulk.
If someone was looking for an unconventional love story that the reader really can feel a part of, I would totally recommend this book. It’s a first for me by this author, but I don’t think it will be a last.
My favorite type of books are based around College so this book was right up my alley. I'm giving the books a 3.5 Star Review.
The one common themes I noticed in this book is Taylor Swift. I never read a book with so much Taylor Swift. Every time I read her name I thought of Jenn. Lol
Other than that this is the classic YA story. Shy girl, cute outgoing boy, and it has its funny moments. I liked all the characters especially the roommate Marissa. Now she should have her own book. Though I found yoga pants and the sometimes childish behavior of the characters sometimes annoying. Otherwise this is a great story with lots of cute drama, virginal girls and sophomoric things people love about YA books.
Would i suggest it to a friend maybe....it depends on how much they like Taylor Swift....I guess...It's worth a read and since its my favorite genre it gets 3.5 stars

I promise you, I am NOT a sexist! But, it was almost impossible to believe this book - filled with the angst of a lovely young woman - was written by a man!! Kudos!!! This was a beautiful story with very believable characters - I felt their insecurities and their fears as they struggled with college, new friends, betrayals, and romance.
I recomend this book to the fullest! I never thought I could enjoy a love story with out the paranormal background. Scott has opened my eyes to a whole new world. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat and you won't want to stop reading until you reach the final page!! No spoilers :)
I absolutely loved Heather. It was very well written. I think Scott got the heart of a girl I felt like I fell in love for the 1st time and it was my heart breaking. I love seeing Heather grow from the shy high school girl into a shy college student and blossom with her friends help and love. :)
A sweet story of young girl finding herself in college. A very shy, cautious girl finally growing out of her shell, finding love and very good friends.
Everytime I expected to happen nothing did...maybe I'm just used to books like that....really wasn't liking the book.....recommend this book for younger readers perhaps.
