Funny, cute, 🔥🔥 secret baby story
This was a funny, easy read and kept me pulled in almost completely (I’ll get to that part). Maverick and Penny are in the bridal party for his brother and her friend, and wind up hooking up in the limo at the reception. Mav is sort of a playboy, and was actually on the way to try to hookup with another bridesmaid, when Penny grabs him, and distracts him. After a number of shots, some hot dancing and grinding, they have a quick hook up in the limo. Unfortunately, Mav passes out immediately afterwards before even asking Penny’s name. Ticked off, especially since she wasn’t able to have a conversation about a condom mishap, she takes off with his pants, leaving him alone to have to do the walk of shame through the reception hall with no pants.
Fast forward a year later, and their businesses bring them together again. She never told him when she discovered she was pregnant. She did not want him to feel trapped and also she knew of his Playboy ways. My one pet peeve with secret pregnancy stories is when they start hooking up again and she does not tell him about the baby. Drives me nuts. If he’s good enough to hook up with, you’re clearly not concerned he’s a serial k!ller, so he is good enough to tell the truth. She really dragged it out a bit, but not too horribly so. For me the frustrating part was that her friend repeatedly told her she had to tell him, and she just kept making excuses (and usually they involved hooking up instead). Then when it came out she had the audacity to fall apart and carry on like it wasn’t expected- really, sobbing for 14 hours? 🙄 I’ll admit I had to skim all the “woe is me” part. It was too much. What did you think was going to happen?
Maverick is amazing. Yes, he starts as a playboy. Yes, he initially says he has no desire to be tied down with a relationship or family. But before he can even learns about Brea, we see him change his opinions. He loves his baby nephews, he loves Penny, and wants to know Brea. And even though he is initially angry when he finds out about Brea, he gets over that anger quickly and is ready to move forward. He’s such a great guy. I love the relationships in this book as well. All around a fun, enjoyable read.
