Not You Again #2

You've Got to Be Kidding

Rate this book
The last time I saw my baby daddy, we were in the backseat of a limo at his brother’s wedding.
Making magic—or a kiddo.
No judging. There was a lot of liquor involved and the man is a god.
He passed out before I could tell him my name, but payback is hell.
I stole his pants for good measure. I’m sure he enjoyed that.
It was supposed to be one night of fun.
Just one night of being the crazy, free girl I was before I took over my dad’s company. And it was that.
Until I saw those two lines pop up on an innocuous-looking stick.
No way I could tell him.
Fast forward a year, and he walks into my father’s company as my new construction partner.
His wicked smile has me swooning.
I’m ready for love, but he’s still the same playboy bachelor he’s always been.
Of all the men in the world to have to work beside day after day, how did I end up with him?
I love him. I hate him. I love that I hate him.
Any way you look at it, my luck blows.
And all I can think about is our one night.
You’ve got to be kidding me.

Heroine was despicable.

Selfish is too mild a word to describe her.

Withheld the paternity of her child even after reconnecting with the dad and dating the dad.

Was friends with the heroes brother and his wife so she knew all along where to find him.

She had no excuse for what she did. A horrible mother, a horrible partner and a horrible human.

Horrible FMC

This book was 75% of a lying conniving woman refusing to tell the MMC that he's the father of her child. Yet he was good enough to continue to have hook up time with, but not good enough to tell him he fathered her child. At 75% she finally tells him, he gets angry, sits down to talk and let her explain, then he agrees with her that she did the right thing, then said he loves her and the baby and let's race to the bed. Save yourself the time of reading this one.
If you think this is a story where a guy learns he's a father and we get to watch his growth and develop his feelings for his child, this is not that story.

I badly wanted to know more about that couple sneaking off at the end of the first book and the author gave me my wish. Now, ‘secret baby’ is not a theme I get excited about in a good way, and Penny pushed a lot of my buttons during this story. But Maverick is beyond amazing, and his ability to process everything brought me along for the ride – even if that was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I had so much fun watching Mav discover that he wanted to be in a committed relationship. And he was such a good sport as his family and friends teased him about it. I liked Penny and I loved it when she dropped her guard and let Mav in, I just connected more easily with our hero. Now that we’ve seen another wedding, with another best man, and a new circle of bridesmaids, I can’t wait to learn where the author is going to take the series next.

You’ve Got to Be Kidding Me starts where Not You Again leaves off. Now, Maverick Neidum, brother to the Karson, the groom, and Penelope Nichols, friend to Payton, the bride, had never met before the wedding. After more than a few drinks, including shots of ouzo, the sparks begin to fly when they start getting to “know” each other better in the back seat of the limousine. After multiple orgasms, Maverick passes out and Penelope decides to have some fun by taking his clothes.

A year later, Maverick and Payton are growing their construction company and looking to add some new vendors, like roofers and insulation installers. Cue Nichols Building Supplies, now run by the original owner’s daughter, Penelope. Yep, one and the same, only this one is single mother to 2 1/2 month-old Brea, and Maverick has no clue he’s the father.

What an enticing introduction Ali Parker offers for this perfectly-crafted modern romance that follows our pair as they maneuver from the passionate hookup to an unexpected pregnancy to a confession, forgiveness, and HEA. This warm, thoughtful story is a welcome addition to Parker’s collection, and the teaser at the end signals that there might be another featuring Flynn, Maverick’s longtime friend. I certainly hope so. Meanwhile grab a copy and carve out some personal time for a wonderful, inspiring read.

I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.

Loved the beginning of this book. It starts out and you think ok I know where this is going then Penny enters the scene and changes the direction.
The description of this book pretty much tells you all you need to know. I enjoyed the dynamic and chemistry between these characters and am excited to read about Flynn’s story.

Secret baby tropes are one of my favorite things. Haha. The drama that ensues is always delectable! There’s only so many paths to a HEA in this kind of romance, but this book was super cute and written well. Mild spice in my opinion, but still good.

A surprise pregnancy is one thing. A secret pregnancy is another. I’ll read either and enjoy them. But a secret pregnancy when they live in the same town AND she’s close enough to his sister-in-law to be a bridesmaid in her wedding? That she continues to NOT TELL the dad about the baby even after they decide to work together on the flimsiest excuse of “he didn’t care to ask how old the baby was or do the math” AFTER she deliberately moved him off ThEIR baby to his nephews?
No.
Full stop.
I’m not reading more for the groveling or the justification or the however this will turn out OK. It’s not ok.

Funny, cute, 🔥🔥 secret baby story

This was a funny, easy read and kept me pulled in almost completely (I’ll get to that part). Maverick and Penny are in the bridal party for his brother and her friend, and wind up hooking up in the limo at the reception. Mav is sort of a playboy, and was actually on the way to try to hookup with another bridesmaid, when Penny grabs him, and distracts him. After a number of shots, some hot dancing and grinding, they have a quick hook up in the limo. Unfortunately, Mav passes out immediately afterwards before even asking Penny’s name. Ticked off, especially since she wasn’t able to have a conversation about a condom mishap, she takes off with his pants, leaving him alone to have to do the walk of shame through the reception hall with no pants.

Fast forward a year later, and their businesses bring them together again. She never told him when she discovered she was pregnant. She did not want him to feel trapped and also she knew of his Playboy ways. My one pet peeve with secret pregnancy stories is when they start hooking up again and she does not tell him about the baby. Drives me nuts. If he’s good enough to hook up with, you’re clearly not concerned he’s a serial k!ller, so he is good enough to tell the truth. She really dragged it out a bit, but not too horribly so. For me the frustrating part was that her friend repeatedly told her she had to tell him, and she just kept making excuses (and usually they involved hooking up instead). Then when it came out she had the audacity to fall apart and carry on like it wasn’t expected- really, sobbing for 14 hours? 🙄 I’ll admit I had to skim all the “woe is me” part. It was too much. What did you think was going to happen?

Maverick is amazing. Yes, he starts as a playboy. Yes, he initially says he has no desire to be tied down with a relationship or family. But before he can even learns about Brea, we see him change his opinions. He loves his baby nephews, he loves Penny, and wants to know Brea. And even though he is initially angry when he finds out about Brea, he gets over that anger quickly and is ready to move forward. He’s such a great guy. I love the relationships in this book as well. All around a fun, enjoyable read.

Finding Love in a Limo

I love how Ali starts this story with Karson and Payton's wedding from "Not You Again" and continues with Maverick and Penny as the main characters. With the wedding celebration drinks flow, inhibitions go wild and that leaves Maverick in the back of a limo with the "sexy fire hydrant". Penelope is in Lucerne for her friend and work associates wedding and has put off looking for love for a night and just be "Penny". What she didn't expect was for her hook up to pass out after the amazing deed was done therefore taking his pants and boxers on her way out of the limo. Fast forward one year and Penny has taken over her fathers construction company and raising her daughter Brea single handedly. Maverick has become captivated by the take charge beauty he's now working with but she has her walls up where her daughter is concerned. What happens when Penny finally gets the nerve to confess everything to Maverick and his reaction is harsh but expected?? Can Maverick accept her explanation as truth to realize he's a father?? A MUST READ with all the feels of secret baby with a twist and a live that won't be denied. His/her POV, no cliffhanger, no cheating, a beautiful baby and although they did things backwards they get a beautiful HEA!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book and added it to my Ali Parker favorites collection. Looking forward to the next story... maybe Flynn!!!

This 2nd Book is as good as the first

Maverick (perfect name) and Penelope meet at the wedding of Maverick's brother Karson (from book #1). I love that Maverick and Karson end up in almost the same position at the end of the trysts. Penelope knows Maverick, but he has no idea who she is. It makes for a funny story later.

When she finds out she's pregnant, she's not sure how to or even if she wants to tell Maverick. He's a playboy, not willing to settle down. There is no way he wants to be with Penelope and a child. Right?

A year later, Mav and Karson's company needs a subcontractor. In walks Penelope's company. He doesn't realize who she is at first, but once she mentions a limo and a wedding, he nearly goes as red as her hair.

They hit it off at the wedding just as much as they hit it off in work. I can't believe he doesn't have any clue the daughter of Penelope's is his. He's a little dense. And it's heartbreaking once she tells him. You can see why she didn't want to tell him and why he's upset for not knowing.

You will love this story of second chances and true love. Oh, and you can see who the next wedding may be . . .

Wedding one night stand, lead to a baby girl

At Payton and Karson wedding, the best man, Maverick and bridesmaid, Penelope hooked up. They climbed into the limo and had some wild sex. Booze, dancing, and sex Maverick m pasted out. Penelope, as a gag, stole his pants and let him sleep it off in the car.
A month later, she found out she's pregnant. She's overwhelmed, but she refuses to let Maverick know.
Fast forward almost a year, Maverick and Karson have hired Penelope's Supply Company to work with them on their construction company. He doesn't know that her father retired. Brea is three months old, and Penny has still not found the right time to tell Maverick about his daughter.
He wants to meet Penelope's little girl, but she's afraid to have them meet. She doesn't know how he would take the news.
They have chemistry and love, but can this save them from this big secret. He fell in love with his little girl from the beginning. He thought she was the most beautiful baby he ever saw. He didn't know that she was his baby.
Another great story by Ali Parker. You never disappoint. Couldn't stop reading your book. Loved the ending.

And yet another great read from Ali Parker.

I received it as an ARC for review and read it in one sitting. There was no cheating, lying or extreme violence…just great chemistry between these two characters.

This story picks up right where Ali’s previous story left off…a wedding! I think I enjoyed this one even more. Penelope and Maverick got hot and heavy in a limo in Lucerne, Mac decided to pass out just post…, pissed off Penny played pants pirate and disappeared into the night and Mac had to naked Donald Duck back into Karson and Peyton’s reception.

Fast forward one year and Maverick is the cool uncle to infant twin boys (Karson and Peyton’s) and Penny has a daughter, Brea. Of course no one knows it’s Mav’s, except her best friend, duh. Maverick never even bothered to ask her name in Switzerland. Oh but fate steps in…they meet again, there are sparks, misunderstandings and eventually a HEA and of course a wedding were a cocky best friend, Flynn, doesn’t heed their warning.

Let the wedding games continue …

very good HEA read

I am a huge Ali Parker fan, so I buy everything that comes out asap. This book is just like all her other books. You get a very good story, warm fuzzy feelings. And a happy ending, even a few laughs along the way.
Overview: Penny was a bridesmaid for her friend Payton and Karson. While at the wedding, she kept noticing the Karson’s brother Maverick (Mag). Penny decided to be crazy and get drunk with him, dance with him, and slink out to the empty Lemo for a quick one. Maverick passes out after and Penny decided to steal his clothes. Maverick had to Donald Duck back into the wedding hall looking for clothes from his brother the groom. 1 year passes and Penny is now a single mom running the family construction business, when Maverick shows up for a subcontractors meeting. Maverick knows he has meet Penny before but can’t place it. Penny reminds him of their meeting and apologized for taking his clothes. Mav loves it and laughs, then offers her a date. Now Penny needs to decide if she should tell him the truth about their daughter?

Get ready for a stormy ride with Maverick and Penelope!

Maverick and Penelope meet at his brother’s wedding that they are both in. A one-night stand took place, with repercussions afterward, both funny, and not. They both work in construction; Maverick is partners with his brother and Penelope took over for her father after his retirement in their company. It’s a year later and, surprise, surprise when Maverick has a meeting with her (but doesn’t know it’s her) to hire her company. All she can think at the moment is, not you again. He on the other hand is trying to remember where he knows her from. It dawns on him and he is enamored by her, and vice versa. Their working and personal relationship is easy, but then it is not. She’s kept a very big secret from him for over a year. Emotions coming from revelations are very confusing and anger often reveals itself in the aftermath. This is a steamy love story with all the feels. I loved it!

3.5 Stars

I’ll start by saying this book is fantastically written, has great banter, and the characters are well developed. I loved her writing style, and while I will absolutely continue with the series, this was just not the book for me. The reason I give this 3.5 stars is completely personal preference regarding the content. I get that not telling Maverick was the big plot point, but I absolutely feel she had ample opportunity to tell him. I don’t think this can even be labeled as miscommunication trope because it was deliberate. He deserved to know. And I feel like we, as readers, deserved the chance to see him bond and grow with Brea much more than we did. I was frustrated throughout the majority of the book with her lack of telling him any time after they reconnected.

I received a free copy of the steamy novel You Got To Be Kidding: A Not Again Novel by Ali Parker and this review was given freely.
Irony and a few steamy scenes can be found in this tension and drama-filled reunion novel where a drunken and embarrassing moment at Maverick’s brother Karson’s/ Neidum Brothers Construction partner’s, wedding reception in Switzerland leaves bridesmaid and construction material supplier Penelope pregnant.
Contains a nice integration of friends and family. I enjoyed seeing Maverick’s transition from determinedly single playboy to family man but the one-year deception/cluelessness between reported good friends and business contacts felt unreal.
18+ for intimate scenes.

This book tells Penelope and Maverick's story, the blurb will tell you all you need to know but it won't tell you how well-drawn the characters are or how well the story flows. I was hooked from beginning to end as I read their story.

Penelope was attending her friend’s wedding when she met, Maverick the brother of the groom they shared a steamy encounter with Maverick despite her knowing his reputation. Their encounter leaves her with more than a memory but she doesn’t tell him. She never expected to see him again but they meet again a year later when their work brings them together.

Maverick doesn’t immediately recognize Penelope but he is about to find discover that she has been keeping a secret, one which will change his life forever.

You’ve Got to be Kidding Me, book two in the A Not You Again series follows the older brother of Karson from book one, Maverick Neidum and owner of Nichols Supplies, Penelope Nichols. While attending the wedding of Payton and Karson, the last thing Penelope expected was a drunken one night stand with the groom’s brother, and for him to pass out before Penelope could even tell him her name. Fast forward a year, and Penelope is now a single mom to adorable baby girl Brea until her whole world gets turned upside down once more when Maverick walks back into her life. Will she be able to keep their baby a secret? Or will falling in love with Maverick change her life one more time?
I really love this series and can’t wait to read Flynn’s book next to see who he hooks up with.

What an exhilarating read.
The banter between Maverick and Penelope is comedy all itself.
Read begins at a wedding. As the maid of honor and Maverick as the best man, Penny was automatically connected with him.
Then a meeting between the two in the back of the the matrimonial couples limo leaves Penny in a tight space and feeling scared and alone. But thinking that the two might never see each other again she sits on this ‘’the change in her life.” Then the two come back into each other’s lives through their occupation.
Penny sits on her “news” longer and longer.
Read to find out if she ever divulges her secret to Maverick or if he fades out of her life.

There will be consequences

Playboy Maverick may just have met his match. After a quickie in the back of a limo at his brother’s wedding, he wakes up with no pants. He doesn’t even know the woman’s name. So, for him it’s just another night. Until he walks into one of his supplier’s offices. He knows the face, but not where he knows it from.

Penelope is focused on taking over the family business. So, it’s been a bit of a dry spell for her. When she approaches the groom’s brother, she wants to have a little fun. Unfortunately, there are consequences to their fun. When he walks into her office a year later, she needs to break it to Maverick that he’s a father. It’s just so complicated.

Maverick and Penelope have an instant connection with sparks flying. Their one nighter produces an unexpected surprise. This is their story. The author brings a strong cast of secondary characters and weaves an entertaining story filled with friends and family, secrets, a hot chemistry and some smokin hot scenes. Add in little Brea's baby cuteness and you have a terrific story. It's well written with descriptive scenes and had me glued to the pages reading. Loved this book/duet. Hoping to see their friends story. Highly recommend.

This book starts where the previous one ends, not a cliffhanger tho. With this you get Maverick, which is Karson’s bro and Penelope, who’s Payton’s friend (bride and groom). Maverick and Penelope’s story has them having a fun night at his bro’s wedding. She has to start being serious since she’s taking over her father’s company. These two have the fun but she finds out later that she’s pregnant. Fast forward a few months and in walks her new construction partner. Read the rest to see how these two get their hea even though it starts rocky and finding their way to that hea. I volunteered to read this and I can’t wait till Flynn’s story. Hint!! For my honesty

This is a brilliant secret baby read.
Mav and Penny have a hot one night stand at his brothers wedding but he falls asleep straight after so she takes his clothes making him have to do the walk of shame. It's not long though before she finds out that she was left with a special gift that night.
One year later and they meet again but now she is a single mum but the chemistry is still there between them.
I loved how they were together but when will Penny tell Mav the truth about her who her daughters father is.
So much drama with plenty of emotion but also so much love. I loved the ending.

Maverick is the ultimate playboy and has no shame for it. Penelope is not in the market for love but after drinking at her friends wedding she finds herself in the back of a limo with Maverick passed out after their much anticipated sexual encounter. Penny takes his pants and boxers on her way out and then a year later is working with the gorgeous playboy and trying to explain to him that he’s a dad. The chemistry between them is off the charts and the up and down is worth reading getting to the happily ever after.

It starts out with a rendezvous in the backseat of a car followed with two pink lines. She didn't get his name at the time but a year later Penelope finds herself facing off with Maverick when they have to work together. When she tells him about the incident at the wedding and backseat of a limo, it has him turning red. When he finally learns about his daughter will it change things between him and Penelope? This story had me in their corner to get a chance for happiness.

I thought this was a good book with a well written storyline. It starts at a wedding with a hookup in a limo. They don’t think they are ever going to see each other again. Maverick doesn’t even know her name, Penny. It jumps ahead to a year later and they end up working together by chance. She has a big secret that she decides to keep for longer than she should, in my opinion. I liked Penny for the most part. I really liked Maverick and cracked up at the “Donald Duck”. One night stand! Maverick and Penny are at a wedding, his brother and her best friend. As the evening wears on and they get drunker, they end up in the back of a limousine and one thing leads to another. As so often happens under the circumstances, Penny discovers she's pregnant and not knowing the father very well, she decides to have the baby and raise it on her own. A year later they meet again and Penny tries to keep her secret. Wonderful characters! Maverick, of course, is totally swoon worthy, and Penny feisty and stubbornly independent. Great read!

Okay, I was hoping we'd get the story about the two sneaking off at the end of book 1, and jumped right into this as soon as it hit my e-reader. Gotta say, I love Maverick, and seeing his views on committed relationships change was great, but I wanted to reach into my e-reader and shake Penny quite a few times while I was reading, but at the same time, I could understand why she had her guard up. Once she let Mav in, that's when I began to really embrace her character. Can't wait to see who's next in the spotlight for this series.

The heroines of this series are extremely unlikeable and worse, they think they are in the right when anyone else can see what an idiot they are. Nothing Penelope said could justify not telling Maverick he had a baby. Nothing. She just loved playing the victim and was more worried about herself than her baby. The H saved me from DNF but he was an idiot too. How does he go the entire time knowing she had a baby and it had been a year since they slept together and NEVER question if the baby is his!?!?!?
