Homilists, catechists, and parents will make excellent use of this book in which the author interweaves spirituality and storytelling to demonstrate the beauty and inspiration of stories.
As an author of Christian fiction, this book offered me validation. Stories are important. In fact, at one point, Father Bausch states, "... all stories are at bottom religious." There are many wonderful stories in the book illustrating various Scripture verses in entertaining ways. Absolutely a worthwhile book! I really enjoyed it.
Really loved this. Found the opening and closing chapters to be real soul food, connecting with me more than any faith reading in years. The middle was a bit more chewy, but very much worth it.
I thought this book was weak, poorly written, and one of the least useful books of non-fiction I've read. The prose was stilted and inconsistent, and while some of the illustrative stories were interesting, most were prosaic and forced to serve the author's purpose.
The point--that story is an essential component of life and especially spirituality--is the only redeemable aspect of the book. But the methods to argue and illustrate that point were rough, overly repetitive, and based on many of the author's existing (but never stated nor defended) presuppositions about faith and God.
