Review - This book gives you a first hand view of the reality of mental illness. The details in the writing are so accurate that as the reader you feel as though you are experiencing the events for yourself. I really rooted for Ryan throughout the book and wished for him to have a happy ending. This book takes on some seriously deep subject matters and I was moved to tears on more than one occasion. The author did an amazing job of not only bringing awareness to illnesses that may not be fully understood, but also highlighting harmful stereotypes and humanizing individuals who have to suffer through these symptoms whilst feeling isolated and scared. I think books like this are very important and could have a huge impact on changing peoples outlook on mental illness. I would recommend this book to everyone, whether they struggle with mental illness themselves or not. This is the kind of book that imprints and stays in your thoughts for a long time.

ALL VIEWS AND OPINIONS ARE OF MY OWN AND HONEST.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The author reached out to me to ask me to review his book, which is always a balance of feeling honored and pressured. Taking someone's heart and effort into your hands with the goal of giving it a review feels like it has importance and significance, and is a bit of a burden -- because I want to help them, always, but I also need to be truthful and honest.
I am glad that I said yes to this one, as it was a perfect book to read in Mental Health May.
The Man Who Yelled at Clouds by Justin T Eller gives us the story of one man in a relentless fight for mental health. He is fighting the devastating effects of Bipolar Disorder, and then the difficult side effects of the medications used to treat it. Based on Mr Eller's own battle for mental health, this story resonates because it feels very real. Ryan is suffering from bouts of psychosis, and because of it his wife is forced to take on the responsibilities of the family alone. Unsurprisingly their marriage crumbles, leaving both of them devastated.
The story is told with compassion, empathy and unflinching honesty.
I am going to be very open here -- vulnerable with my own story. I also have Bipolar Disorder. During the mid-1990s I found myself lost in a morass of depression, anxiety and panic attacks that lasted weeks or months, followed by intense moments of joy and immense energy. During those (much shorter) periods I wished for it to be how life would stay. I thought this happiness was normal. It wasn't until I was diagnosed that I learned those periods were equally unhealthy for me. I started therapy and medication. It wasn't an easy transition into health. It took several years of medication changes and adjustments. It took lots of talk therapy. But, now I have been stable and committed to health for 20 years, and all of it was worth the effort.
This book is personal, hopeful, and allows the reader to better understand the struggles that come along with Bipolar Disorder. Thank you to the author for trusting me with it, and for sharing your journey with the. reader.

The story revolves around Ryan and Sarah, a couple with a lot of difficulties in life. It’s Ryan’s journey with mental health issues. He was having bipolar disorder. This novel is inspired by the author's own experiences and he has developed the characters very well, making them easy for readers to connect with their emotions and struggles. The language used in the book is easy to understand and book cover is very pretty. Overall, it's an inspiring story of finding faith and strength in our tough time. I would like to recommend this book to anyone who is dealing with mental illness or want to know about this disorder.
Only an author who can draw from his own experiences can give such a truthful yet uplifting account of managing challenges in times of mental and physical illness when fate seems to plot against you. This book is not just for people affected by Bipolar Disorder. It is for everyone who wants to be able to get a better grasp on the symptoms and effects of this common psychological illness that may well be present in people you know.
A textbook may tell you the symptoms, but this story brings them much closer to your heart. You really get to better understand the full brutality, stereotypes, and impacts related to Bipolar Disorder by following the life of Ryan and his wife Sara. They start out as a romantic couple with optimistic plans for the future until Ryan’s bouts of psychosis worsen, Sara falls ill, and their life is thrown into turmoil. Yet, by taking small baby steps, they embrace optimism, are starting to feel more empowered, and discover alternative ways to manage their crisis.
A textbook definitely can’t provide the motivation and encouragement that this book provides for all those in a similar situation. Through his personal, honest, and insightful writing, the author paints a picture of hope and resilience that will stay with me for a long time. I truly recommend this book!
I was not planning on buying this book, but I was able to meet the author and talk a bit about the book with him. I have been really into psychology recently. I love to see how the brain works (even when the brain isn't working the way it's supposed to), and I myself have had mental health problems. I think mental health is so important, and I'm sad that there is such a big stigma attached to it. This book shows first hand what it would be like to live with Bipolar Disorder. As well as other mental illnesses. This book is very raw and real. Not only does it show the difficulty of living with a mental illness, but it also the effects that come with it and how it can affect relationships. I'm so glad I was able to read this, and it gave me a bit more of an insight into what people deal with and more empathy for people struggling.
