"Our way of living is causing us distress. An existential approach is not necessarily going to provide an answer to all of life's problems, ... but it does encourage people to shake off the shackles of living in an automated way where they sleepwalk through life, existing and not really living. Existential philosophy and therapy therefore therefore inspires people to start thinking deeply about their lives, to ask themselves about the way thy are living: what is important in their lives, what do they value, and how can they find meaning and purpose?"

A very helpful primer in terms of an introduction to key themes and considerations for the theory and practice of existential therapy, framed as a set of fifty frequently-asked questions. It is posited as suitable for trainees, practitioners, clients, and general readers, and lives up to this billing in terms of how concepts, theory, and practice are all explained at a high level. The volume illuminates a lot along the way, although would have benefited from some tighter editing in terms of the quality of some of the prose, with an inattention to grammatical structure frequently interrupting my flow of reading. Nevertheless, a very helpful way into the topic.
