The Foundlings

Rate this book
Donnie aimlessly drifted through the past year of his life, and often wondered if it was worth the effort to just keep trying. The events of the past year had left him near broken. That all changed the moment Abbie walked into his life.

She was like an angel sent to lift up his soul from the darkness it now existed in. For a moment his future seemed brighter with her in his life, and he started to believe he could be happy. They never expected how much their lives would change once they are dragged into another world.

A world of shadows which within exists a society hidden in plain sight; a world wroth with danger, where they aren't welcomed at all. They are forced into this world of Vampires, where then find themselves little more than orphans, nothing more than Foundlings from the start.

Donnie and Abbie now find their love and faith tested to their very limits, while someone or something else watches, waits and hopes.

In a field saturated with a flood of vampire books in recent years, it's been rather hard to find one that is unique enough to capture my interest. In fact, I was about ready to give the whole genre a nice long vacation before returning to it.

Then I met the author at a Con and decided to take a chance on this book. Granted it took me a while to actually read the book (life, my own writing and a host of other distractions), but when I did, I was hooked.

I don't like spoilers so I will do my best not to give any but, this book (which is one of three) kept me on the edge of my seat while thoroughly engaging me in the main characters' story. There were times I laughed so hard I cried and times when I cried so hard you would think a second deluge was coming.

But through it all the plot, setting and characters kept me riveted. I WILL be getting book #2: The Beasts Within and reading it as well.

I have never enjoyed a vampire book more. I really needed a new good series to read after Twilight and R.M. Garcia's Foundlings does not fail to deliver. The story begins quite normally and then picks up speed and forces you to hold on as you turn page after page. I spent too many late nights up reading this book, but it was well worth it. I cannot wait for more from this amazing author. The vampires contained in the book are so different and yet so familiar, giving the entire read a fresh view of vampires. The characters were well developed and you make a connection with each one as the story progresses. Heart-pounding action, and a lot of humor. If you are a fan of paranormal vampire romances, this book is a must read.

I received this book for free as a Good reads First read.

This is not your usual vampire book. And I really liked that! I loved the mix of religions it had along with the fact that it wasn't a 'happily ever after' ending really made the book a great read for me!

I received this book from Juniper Grove to give an honest review.

Where do I start? I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because it deserves it in more ways than one. You get so many twists and turns that you will not even see coming I know I sure did not.

You start off with Abbie who ends up getting taken by unknown forces! Then you get into the world of Abbie, Donnie, vampires and the foundlings. You learn about a young man named Donnie and what tragic events hit his life, and how he came out of his slump with the help of his friend Misha. You know how they say that fate brings two people together? Well I have to say there was a twist I did not see coming as far as Abbie and Donnie meeting. Yeah they went to the same school, but never once did they talk or meet. Until Donnie wants to sign up for tutoring and soon after he meets her parents, this is where the twist comes in.

You could tell Donnie was raised as a perfect gentleman! He wrote Abbie a love note and I felt myself after reading it going awwww, that is so sweet! Donnie is one of those book characters that you fall in love with, and wish they were real. lol. Not only that but he is a romantic guy, he takes Abbie to "the spot" and the way it was described is just perfect!

Donnie's only friend until later on in the book is Misha who was the one who helped him and stayed by his side when the tragic events hit Donnie, and that is a awesome friendship that those two have. Even though Misha is put out there as a male pig, you can also see the sensitive side of him through out the story. There is also a small little twist with Misha and one of his ex-girlfriends that I was like oh my really? I actually felt a bit sorry for his ex.

You get a real feel for friendship, a really sweet love between Donnie and Abbie that just makes your heart melt as they will do anything for each other.

There was a reference to Gilles de Rais in this book, so of course I wanted to find out if this was a real person or just something the author threw in. I actually found out that this was a real person and what he did was horrific so I thought that was pretty cool how the author used him in the book.

In The Foundlings, it is all about vampires, but every one of them come from a bloodline of some sort. Each bloodline has a certain power, ability and look. You also get exterminators which are the vampires that kill The Foundlings for reasons? Well you have to read to get that answer. Now there are references to spiritual things, such as Donnie being a Native American he can talk to spirits. Which I thought was amazing as I do not think I have read a book yet that uses the reference to Native Americans and their spirits. Abbie and Donnie get thrown into a world that did not know ever existed, and along the way they make friends, especially enemies and will stop at nothing to protect not only those they love but other's as well. They have to learn to adapt to their new life and can they ever be happy? Will they ever find peace?

If you are looking for a book that will keep you wanting to stay up late to try and finish one more page or one more chapter. A book that has twists and turns though out the whole story line, that has a deep friendship, loyalty between lovers, a love that just melts your heart! On top of all that a vampire book that is not your normal vampire book then I highly suggest you go and get your copy today like right now!!!! As I will for sure be picking up book two in this series. This author has a unique writing style that I was thoroughly impressed with!

Detailed Review: [ Review copy received from Juniper Grove ]

I found The Foundlings to be a really awesome story about Vampires. Well for one, the story kicks off immediately with a strong prologue that caught me off guard! With a boy called Donato "Donnie" Guerrero who is basically a normal American Indian human who can talk to Spirits and they give messages or sometimes once in a while his parents see him in a 'spirit form'. I thought this book was really, really good!

Normally I would have turned down a Vampire novel (thanks to Twilight, no doubt) but after the first page of reading this spiritual, paranormal hunt of Foundlings, I was impressed with the author's quality writing of actual Vampires (not sparkly ones, I daresay)!

Exhilarating, fun and heart-stopping I really loved R.M. Garcia (author)'s writing. He has written quite a fascinating, interesting story. The Vampires in The Foundlings are split up into Bloodlines where each Bloodline has a different ability like, telepathy, telekinesis or even flight!

Hard to believe?

Well, you'll have to read it the complete text.

DONNIE; a hot-headed, impulsive yet sweet to the max - I think Donnie was written quite well as well descriptions about him and his amazing fighting skills that impressed me, I LOVED this character! With abilities that can match no normal Vampire, Donnie is guy that will do anything for his wife/girlfriend, Abbie.

ABBIE; over the top at times, bad-ass the next and typically sweet - who knows what will happen next with this girl around? Abbie's strength and determination has served her well in The Foundlings including those feelings of Donnie and the next is ultimate marriage in Canada! Can her love exceed any further?

ESPEE; Vampire that is wayyy old, generous and is wise - She rules over dens with an iron fist but at times Espee has a typically grandmother-like stance and heart where she will save her dens, her Foundlings and anything she cares without a second thought! This woman has total determination but what is her weak point then?

The story was very creative, using history and the paranormal to team with each other - Garcia has outdone himself with combining the two together!

If you love books that have heart-stopping actions, paranormal romance and new world with Vampires, Spirits and creatures called Sources? Well, you better read this book because this is pretty darn good book that has won it's place on my bookshelf of Most Loved Books :)

You will be mystified in the end (hope you do) I can't wait till I can get my hands on the second book!

I would definitely recommend this book! If you haven't read it, I suggest you should.

*The second book, The Beasts Within is out NOW!*

Brief Review: The Foundlings is definitely a book worth reading! I couldn't stop reading it non-stop with action, romance and the supernatural all packed in one! R.M. Garcia has written a fast-paced novel that has outdone itself, literally!

My Rating: 5/5 "Totally Amazing!"

The Foudlings by R.M. Garcia

Donnie had a wonderful life, until he lost his parents, he is a bit of a loner with one best friend. Then he meets Abbie, she is beautiful and in his eyes perfect. Soon Abbie had an unthinkable thing happen to her, she was bitten by a vampire. Donnie is turned by Abbie and they plan to spend eternity together.

They find out they and many others are Foundlings, those that are orphaned and do not descend from any particular vampire clan. They must learn to fight to survive. They also need to learn how to fit into society without being discovered. They meet some friends and a lot of enemies. Each night becomes dangerous as they flee and try to find a place to fit in. Abbie finds she is being hunted by a very dangerous clan, and Donnie will stop at nothing to save his young bride.

Filled with action, some native American legends, romance and vampire wars I found The Foundlings different from all the other vampire books. I really enjoyed this read, I could not put it down. There was a lot of surprises and some twists in this story, it was not predictable and I love that in a book. I would love to read more By R.M. Garcia.

typically I'm not into vampire stories...but I must say this is the best book I have read in a long time! It's very unique and I got so wrapped up in the charcters that I had to peel myself away sometimes! "The Foundlings" is a great read for vampire lovers, hopeless romantics, action buffs, or someone who just likes to get lost in a good story!

The author provided me with a copy of the book for a fair and honest review. Just by the synopsis the author provided I was intrigued and looking forward to reading it. Then, he told me himself in an email, and I quote, “Don't worry though, my book is nothing like twilight, I know there are a lot of vampire lovey dovey stories out there now. Mine should be different enough to stand out in the genre.” I will agree; it does stand out!

After Donnie endured a really rough and trying year; losing both of his parents, and all but giving up on life himself, he meets the beautiful and elusive (when it comes to relationships) Abbie. Although he is smart has a problem with history, and Abbie happens to tutor the subject, so he signs up for sessions. This was the break he needed, and soon they fell in love.

After high school, Abbie went off to college and Donnie became a mechanic. Things were great, until Abbie went to Florida on a vacation trip she won. It was supposed to be a weeklong “girls” trip with her friends. However, someone had different plans for her. She was given the choice to be turned into a vampire, or have all those that she loved be killed. She chose to become a vampire. After doing so she went back home and hung herself to give the impression that she was dead and there was even a funeral.

Donnie, however, did not believe that the events were true and he set out to find the truth. This was when his spirit guide leads him to “the spot” where he crashes his car and falls to his impending death. As he is dying his beloved Abbie appears. She sees that he will not live, and in a state of frenzy, she decided to feed from him.

In the aftermath of the feeding, and to Abbie’s surprise, Donnie soon awakes. Neither of them can believe it, and soon they find out that Donnie is not a typical vampire himself. Donnie vows to protect Abbie once they learn that she is in danger and is being hunted by the “bloodline” that turned her. Little did either one of them know the war that was about to ensue.

I honestly did not know what to expect when I was getting ready to read this novel. I think I was expecting more of a vampire horror type novel, but I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t. I truly could not, nor did I want to, put this book down. It had me captivated from the start.

I wanted to give this book a 5 star rating, but the reason why I didn’t is because there were too many errors; additional words in sentences and the in chapter “scene” change breaks was not used until the later chapters in the book, which made some parts of the book a little confusing. Some of it could have been because of formatting issues, but some were probably editing oversights.

Aside from that, like I said before, this book was able to draw me in and get to my emotions in multiple areas of the story. Because of this, this book, and this author, has quickly become one of my favorites. I cannot wait to sink my eyes into the next installment of the series.

R.M. Garcia has an unique way of writing. I have read my share of vampire books, but this one is special, it’s something different and it captured my interest from the start. I think this is the first time I enjoyed a book of this genre so much! The story line kicks off immediately, with many twists and turns that you will not even see coming, and it made me to read this book in one sitting.
Abbie is the kind of a bad ass girl with a lot of strength and determination that serves her well in the book. Then I had the chance to read about Donnie, the guy who is sweet, stubborn sometimes, hot-headed and impulsive. They went to the same school, but never once did they talk or meet. Until Donnie wants to sign up for tutoring and soon after he meets her parents. The love between them it’s sweet, and he is the perfect gentleman, writing Abbie a love note. They were perfect for each other! But things aren't perfect between them, when Abbie meets a terrifying fate, Donnie follows her into the unknown; and together they are thrown into a world of Vampires, a world neither would have thought could exist. Abby turn upside down, she is bitten by a vampire but Donnie is turned by her and they plan to spend eternity together.
They find out they and many others are Foundlings, those that are orphaned and do not descend from any particular vampire clan. They must learn to fight to survive, how to fit into society without being discovered. They meet some friends and a lot of enemies. Each night becomes dangerous as they flee and try to find a place to fit in. Abbie finds she is being hunted by a very dangerous clan, and Donnie will stop at nothing to save his young bride.
The Foundlings is definitely an exhilarating, fun and heart-stopping, completely invigorating, and fresh book! It’s all about vampires, but every one of them come from a bloodline of some sort. Each bloodline has a certain power, ability and look. If you are a fan of paranormal vampire romances, this book is a must read!!! I would love to read more by R.M. Garcia!

Vampires on the Run

With his friends Nox and Espee, Donnie is desperately chasing kidnappers. Members of the Reich Vampire Bloodline snatched Abbie, the love of Donnie's life.

Donnie, Nox, Espee, and Abbie are all members of the Los Nomados. The Nomads are very cohesive and as close as a family. Espee is the leader, Nox was a soldier in Vietnam, and Donnie brings his own special powers to the group.

The Los Nomados are comprised of Foundlings. The Foundlings are targets of other vampires.

"A Foundling, as they were called, was an anomaly in the world of vampires. The term 'Foundling' was an old English word meaning orphan, and that was exactly what they were now, orphans. Every vampire originated from a Bloodline Source, and each Bloodline could only birth a certain number of vampires from its Source. The exact number was a closely guarded secret. Each Bloodline was also unique and possessed individual qualities granted by their blood; Bloodtraits. Some of these traits could only be taught, and this too was kept deliberately obscured. Other Bloodtraits were just an inherent part of the Bloodline, like Nox’s ability to track by smell.

"Foundlings complicated the formal Bloodlines’ order and their possible numbers. For every risen Foundling, there would be one less vampire available to the corresponding Bloodline. Every formal Bloodline down the line, from the Reich all the way to the Ancient Old Ones, cared not for Foundlings. They were considered loose and uncontrolled ends, and thus they were not tolerated.

"A Foundling was an accidental birth of a vampire and was created when a vampire killed a human by drinking all of their blood. Although this normally would not make the victim rise as a vampire, on extremely rare occasions, for some unknown reason, it did happen."

R. M. Garcia's The Foundlings: Book One of the Urban Fantasy Paranormal Vampire Series is an excellent vampire story. The action moves along at an exciting pace, and the characters are compelling and realistic (for vampires, of course).

The Foundlings by R.M Garcia

Donnie has had his world turned upside down, after losing both of his parents
he begins to believe that he can never truly be happy again and can only push himself to continue going forward…

That is until he meets Abbie.

An unexpected love that blooms and becomes a bond so strong, no one can drag them apart. But when Abbie meets a terrifying fate, Donnie follows her into the unknown; and together they are thrown into a world of Vampires, a world neither would have thought could exist.

Where to start, this book really intrigued me, I was immediately drawn in from the start; the author leaves no room for you to stray from wanting to continue reading. No matter how hard I tried, I found myself wanting to continue on, and each page left me wondering, “What is going to happen next.” I especially really liked how the author portrayed the characters, they were each somewhat relatable and I thought them to have very unique personalities Though I have to admit there were times I felt the urge to hit one of the characters over the head - (Which the reasons for that can only be known if you read the book yourself)

This book did not disappoint and I quite enjoyed how it went from a fast pace start and then lead the reader back to the beginning and portrays the events that lead up to the opening scene, though it did get a little confusing at first. I would recommend this to any vampire lover that does not mind change to the classic vampire folklore; this book not only delivers but also gives a refreshingly new twist into the world of vampires.

Where to start with this book? My goodness. It is unlike anything I’ve ever read before that’s for sure. I have to say that The Foundlings is definitely refreshing.

At first, during the opening scene, I had a hard time following, but once I got to the first chapter things immediately picked up. I didn’t have to read half way through the book for the plot to kick into full gear (thank God for that). I was instantly drawn to the main characters and it didn’t take long for me to fall in love with Donnie and Abbie. I mean, seriously, how could you not fall in love with them? They were perfect for each other and I think they complimented each other very well.

One of the things that I truly enjoyed was the diversity of religions. R.M. Garcia did a great job at both separating and bringing the them together at just the right time. The plot was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. Granted, I’ve read my fair share of vampire books before, but this one was uniquely different. I was fascinated by the different bloodlines and the abilities that came with each one.

It was incredibly gratifying to read something new and different. There are times when new and different does not work well together in a story, but in this case it made the entire plot pop. Though I will say that I was devastated by the many tragedies along the way—one of them in particular—I kind of understood where the author was going with it.

Overall, The Foundlings was a very interesting, completely invigorating, and fresh read that I readily enjoyed. I can honestly say that I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Today's review is on The Foundlings by: R. M. Garcia

This is one of the more difficult reviews I have written. Though there was a lot that I liked about The Foundlings, there are some aspects that I didn't. And though it offers one of the more unique takes on the classic vampire love story that I have read in a while, it seemed to go on and on and on, while other books of the same size have seemed to fly by. Yes, with the weaving of past and present historical people and events, Garcia creates the ultimate good vs. evil story. And his use of the Native American spiritual belief's and the Catholic doctrine was well done, there were just parts of the book that didn't need to be there and simply just took up space.

It seemed that the world was against poor Donnie. He lost his mother to Cancer and his father shortly there after. The pain was so unbearable that he closed himself off to most every one around him but his best friend, his favorite teacher, and his priest. All that changes however when Abbie walks into his life, and the love that Donnie and Abbie have for each other is put to the ultimate test.

Vampire Nazis, Native American Spirit Guides, Angles, and Satan himself are a lot to overcome for our young lovers; not to mention Abbie's over protective father, and Donnie will need all of his new friends to succeed and fulfill his destiny.

The Foundlings offers a delightful love story full of drama, sacrifice, and vampires. It's just a bit long.

I like the book cover so much and I think it looks very classic and vintage. Maybe only in my eyes. The story on the other hand was actually quite satisfying since I was intrigued after reading the synopsis. The last classic vampire book I've read was Dracula. Reading this one seems to remind me of it. The author actually introduces the other side of vampires, as if they do act and live like any other human beings. The mixed of history manipulation kind of interesting, i.e Vampire Nazis. I have to admit that is genius. However, of course there's a flaw, I felt like he has many to tell, i.e, characters, which me sometimes lost track of it. But the main characters are great. The love relation they have, for me is enough to say that they do have the sparks, but to say it has blown me away, not really. Other thing that totally made me hooked was that I was fascinated by different bloodlines and powers that they have. I thought that was cool. I'm very looking forward to read the sequel, to know how much will the characters grow.

From the moment I picked up this book I was convinced that I was going to love it, and I did at times, however there were other parts of the book that I didn't precisely love. Garcia has an amazing imagination and I was utterly fascinated with the bloodlines and curious about the plot and exactly what Donnie's role was going to be in the book. At times I felt like there were perhaps too many stories within a story. There were so many aspects of the book, and so many different ideas and concepts to be explored that at times it felt like there were multiple books all taking place in the same story. I think some of the dialogue was not as natural as it could have been, however knowing that this is a first novel I'm curious what subsequent novels will bring. I think Garcia's creativity and take on vampires was refreshing and interesting, he obviously has a number of strengths as a writer and I'm interested in reading his second book.

This author is a great story teller, giving us a good action adventure for our money, along with some romance. Excellent character building, exciting plot, good fight scenes, and an all round good set of twists to keep the reader enraptured. Now for the negative bit, which I hate to do with such a good book, I'm pretty certain that English must be the second language as the grammar is in need of improvement. A good bit of editing and I think I would have stretched to a five star. Don't let this put you off though, it's a great read. It's also takes a brave author to mix a bit of religion in with a vampire story, worked well. I really enjoyed reading this book.

Interesting and surprising good read

I loved the way this book brings some old vampire folklore into new meanings including the biblical ones. the story keeps wanting you to finish and not wanting to put it down. Surprisingly this story of vampires is without a lot of explicit sexual situations I find in many afterlife novels which is why I recommend it a good read even for teens. I will definitely look for more novels by R M Garcia

I was drawn to the story based on the advertising that it was a dark horror story with ties to the Third Reich. I gave up at the fifty percent mark. This is nothing more than another teenage vampire work.

I’m sure gals are going to love it. For those of us who are steeped in World War Two and Himmler’s fascination with the Occult will be quickly moving on. There are many more in depth works for us to enjoy.

Moving on.
