Alex’s confinement and mental torture continues as she slips further and further from reality and the realization sets in that her captors might have ulterior motives. Can anything bring Alex back to reality now?
“Don't worry Alex. The brain may be a seemingly fragile thing... The tiniest thing out of place and our entire system fails. Body movement, behaviour, emotional regulation, how we interpret and make sense of the world, all controlled by an organ no more physically stable than a bowl of gelatine.
And yet...it can be surprisingly resilient. Fear, anger, trauma, abuse, stress, discrimination, all require adaption, forcing the brain to mould our thoughts and behaviours. All to ensure survival. Your brain needs a rest..."
This series is set in the 1960s and follows a young American tourist, Alex, as she explores the nightlife of Amsterdam. Partaking in some of the more exoctic and illegal things on offer, Alex wakes the next morning in bed with a dead woman. Soon the police arrive and she finds herself buffeted along, not understanding the Dutch police. The outcome, it seems, is a trip to an asylum having been deemed unfit to stand trial.
Once at the asylum, Alex realises something is very wrong. Forced to take medication, she insists the dead women opened her eyes and wasn't actually dead, despite the slit throat. She then attacks a nurse, believing her to be the dead woman.
Worse is waiting for her as the mini additional story in the first two issues informed us that this is all linked to the CIA's secret program, MK Ultra experiments.
Really good so far, although I worry that there are only 2 further issues and a lot of story to tell. This issue gets 5 stars.
