This is the story of five generations of the Dillon family: a family with many blessings but cursed with one tragic flaw: Dillon males tend to want to harm themselves, usually fatally, and this cursed baton is passed on, sometimes unknowingly, always unwillingly. The stories are not only about these men but also the women who love, give birth to, and sometimes abandon them. In the end there is a distinct message of hope, as the last of the Dillons embarks on a voyage that some may call an attempt to escape the angel of death, but is really an effort to confront it head on, understanding that even in the brief whisper of life, there are resounding voices that need to be heard. It is only in hearing them that the truth will resonate, and then there will be nothing ultimately, but an affirmation, an incentive, for us all.
