This book is written for new and young Christians to provide simple steps in how to receive, use, and develop the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Its simple, easy-to-follow format encourages readers to engage with the Holy Spirit through prayers and exercises.
The best thing about this book is its focus. This is not a theological summary of the Holy Spirit (although 1 chapter does) or a history of what the Spirit has done or how he's acted. It is a practical overview of how and why we should be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Reading this book really inspires faith that God can still do what he once did. He loves to heal his children. He loves to give us gifts that help us minister to others. He loves to personally interact with us. This book gives an overview of all of this along with some of the gifts of the spirit in a non-hyped way. Coming from an empowered evangelical (evangelical and usually reformed but they hold this in tandem with a more charismatic view of the believer's life) point of view, she states all believers are filled with the Holy Spirit from the moment we believe but that we are also commanded to continue being filled! This book gives many practical tips on how that process works.
This is an overview on 'being filled by the holy spirit' by a British charismatic lay leader. Jeannie Morgan has good things to say and is pretty even keel in her presentation; however she does tend to focus on the 'spooky' charismatic gifts and manifestations (i.e. laughing, tongues, healing, prophecy, words of knowledge, etc.). This is all well in goood but by placing the sole focus here, the portrait of the holy spirit which emerges seems somewhat limited. The wind blows where it will, and sometimes it doesn't look very strange.
Well-meaning with good intentions, the book does include a bit of the theology of the Holy spirit, but is mostly full of personal accounts that I don't think may really convince the average sceptic. But it is earnest, even if it over-uses exclamation marks (although it keeps it in colloquial context)
This book has taught me so much about the holy spirit and how to use His amazing gifts for us in everyday life! The book is also filled with so many testimonies of how God has moved in people's lives! It was so encouraging to really see that miracles happen today.
