Rate this book
When the world-devourer Galactus arrived at the planet Zenn-La, one man stood up to sacrifice himself to save his Norrin Radd! In exchange for forgoing his limitless hunger, Galactus transformed Norrin into the Silver Surfer and forced him into servitude as his herald. But all that changed on Earth, with the Surfer freed of Galactus but trapped on our planet. Written by Stan Lee and illustrated by John Buscema, these double-length tales of cosmic conflict are some of the most masterful Marvel sagas ever produced. You will experience awe at the Surfer's origin, be torn down to the depths of hell by Mephisto and witness a battle with Thor that shakes the heavens! Collecting SILVER SURFER (1968) #1-4, and material from FANTASTIC FOUR ANNUAL #5 and NOT BRAND ECHH #13.

Stan Lee (born Stanley Martin Lieber) was an American writer, editor, creator of comic book superheroes, and the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics.

With several artist co-creators, most notably Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, he co-created Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor as a superhero, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Daredevil, the Silver Surfer, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Scarlet Witch, The Inhumans, and many other characters, introducing complex, naturalistic characters and a thoroughly shared universe into superhero comic books. He subsequently led the expansion of Marvel Comics from a small division of a publishing house to a large multimedia corporation.

Extremely flowery language that rambles on and on.
Only four issues. Then a quick ten page, ehh issue, from Fantastic Four Annual, and a short Mad Magazine type issue.

The philosophical nature of the silver surfer paired with his awesome design and powers make him one of my favorite characters. His origin story is memorable and very solidly defines his character. His second adventure shows how he is often misunderstood, his third with Mephisto shows his pure heart and intense power, and his fourth with Loki and Thor shows that he can be led astray but his intentions are always pure as well as that he is strong enough to battle gods. The FF annual issue was a short only alright story and the final in this issue is a parody. Overall I really enjoyed this book, Silver Surfer can be so dramatic and is always dropping hard quotes. The colors of the panels are awesome and the issues with Mephisto and Thor in particular were excellent!

Despite me never actually learning of his backstory i’ve always loved silver surfer but know that i took the time the learn his backstory i love him even more. it adds so much depth to everything about him. he’s not just the loneliest man in the universe because he disobeyed his master(galactus) but because he chose tk sacrifice himself for the woman he loved and the planet he was born on.

This has the two issues from this series that you will ever need: #1, the origin, and #3, the Surfer vs. Mephisto.
The bonus "Not Brand Echh" story included here is, for once, actually funny, as there is much to parody in this series.
But those two issues are gold.

Dialogue wasn't enjoyable. The Thor issue was probably the worst, attempting to throw in "old English"-isms everywhere.
