One of the more middle of the road anthology books Marvel has put out for a while - I've been pleasantly surprised by the most recent Spider-Verse books for example, which have been four star books and pretty high quality. For some reason though, Venom doesn't seem to translate to the multiversal stage quite as well.
Some of these stories are great - Old West Madame Venom and Eddie Brock Spider-Man are great, and I liked the creepy little girl Venom who eats people while looking adorable, but most of the other stories are forgettable. Who thought Baseball Venom was a good idea?
At least a lot of these characters do show up in Death Of The Venomverse, so it's not a complete waste of time however.
3.5 Stars Remember all the Spider-Verse comics where we got to see many different Spider-people throughout the Multiverse? Not only how they lived in their world, but then how they were recruited for a fight with all the other Spiders? This is pretty much the same, except all Venom... and they are coming together to fight Carnage. The actual team creation and fight is in another TP called "Death of the Venomverse" which I should be reading soon. Overall, this was entertaining and fun, but not nearly as much as Spider-Verse. My favorite Venom? Either the Venom that uses a katana, or Necroko, the anime girl Venom who uses a Venom'd Magical Girl Wand. LOL Recommend, especially if you are going to read the sequel.
Bought this on a whim and really glad I did! Lots of fun short stories featuring multiversal versions of Eddie, Peter, and the Venom Symbiote. The authors use the premise of a multiverse to great effect pitching wildly different sets of characters and settings using the same tropes Spidey fans are familiar with. The real benefit of a collection like this is that the stories are short and sweet, so even if one of them isn’t to your taste, it’s over soon and at least has damn good art. Hats off to all the art teams on this series, juggling a variety of tones and styles like this is hard and it all looks beautiful. It’s great on its own, but it got me interested in the “Venomverse” line of stories so maybe I’ll check out the rest next!
When you have a 'mega event' and need to explain away a BUTT ton of new characters...THIS happens. Five issues jam packed with alternate universe Venoms. You thought Spider-Verse stuff was crazy?
Could have just been an anthology of 'What If?' shorts featuring only Venom. Meh. There's been worse. This wasn't horrible. The art was varied. Nice way to showcase new talent. Give them a little platform.
Bonus: King Pain looks like a Orca Man....ummm... Bonus Bonus: part of a mega event with no real payoff
It's another prelude book for another Venomverse crossover event. And while I haven't read the actual event title, I'll concede that some of their ideas for alternate Venoms were pretty fun. So I can't speak too how well this title will connect, but I will praise many of the characters they've brought to life here.
A bunch of short vignettes introducing us to a whole range of Venom-variants throughout space and time. Some of these are really good, some are fairly questionable (baseball Venom). It all seems to be setting up something else--the death of Venomverse?
Half of them were very good or fun weird, the other half were either okay, weird in a not fun way, or mean to my goo, overall it was fun though, Peach Momoko carries as always
