Peter Allen David (aka David Peters), often abbreviated PAD, was an American writer of comic books, novels, television, films, and video games. His notable comic book work includes an award-winning 12-year run on The Incredible Hulk, as well as runs on Aquaman, Young Justice, SpyBoy, Supergirl, Fallen Angel, Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2099, Captain Marvel, and X-Factor.

His Star Trek work included comic books and novels such as the New Frontier book series. His other novels included film adaptations, media tie-ins, and original works, such as the Apropos of Nothing and Knight Life series. His television work includes series such as Babylon 5, Young Justice, Ben 10: Alien Force and Nickelodeon's Space Cases, which he co-created with Bill Mumy.

David often jokingly described his occupation as "Writer of Stuff", and he was noted for his prolific writing, characterized by its mingling of real-world issues with humor and references to popular culture, as well as elements of metafiction and self-reference.

David earned multiple awards for his work, including a 1992 Eisner Award, a 1993 Wizard Fan Award, a 1996 Haxtur Award, a 2007 Julie Award, and a 2011 GLAAD Media Award.

I really wanted to love this. The original Spider-Man 2099 series was an amazing and surprising run in the '90s. This collection, however, is a lot less so. It's a frustrating mix of highs and lows that makes the entire omnibus an up-and-down experience, which is why it's hard to rate it higher than a 2.5 out of 5.

The best part of this volume is undoubtedly the work of returning writer Peter David. Thanks to his involvement, Miguel O'Hara's voice is well-written and sounds remarkably similar to his classic '90s portrayal. He's brash and will go to extremes, even killing someone if needed, which makes him feel distinct and separate from the typical heroics of Peter Parker. I also enjoyed the introduction of the new character Tempest early on in the run. The book shines brightest when it's not bogged down by massive crossover events. I particularly liked the future's Sinister Six and some of the cool moments with Electro, which featured some genuinely shocking and disturbing deaths.

Unfortunately, the major event arcs are the worst part of this collection. Miguel's adventures are constantly derailed by these crossovers, which don't seem to do the story any favors. The "Spider-Verse" event was a messy and confusing tie-in, and the "Secret Wars 2099" mini-series, while introducing the new Avengers of 2099, felt weak and lackluster. The worst offender was the series of issues labeled as a tie-in for Civil War II, which had absolutely nothing to do with that event, a fact that is frustrating and jarring for a reader expecting a coherent narrative.

Ultimately, this omnibus is a series of both good and bad moments, and the final experience feels like a constant battle between them. The strong character work and compelling non-event stories are consistently undermined by messy and unfulfilling crossovers, making the overall experience a letdown despite its flashes of brilliance. I'll give it a 3 on Goodreads, but it really feels like a 2.5 out of 5.

Unfortunately not as great as the 90s Spider-Man 2099, which this omnibus made me want to reread. The 2099 Unlimited stuff in the beginning being added is good for completions sake, but would've meant more in omnibus one. Miguel is still great as angrier and more broody Spider-Man, but to give Peter David (who is great) the benefit of the doubt, I think part of the reason the newer Spider-Man 2099 didn't click as well was constantly having to tie in to certain events (which I can really rant about with Marvel especially in the late 2010s) and some time traveling shenanigans that don't always tie up. I still think this is worth reading for Miguel fans (of which I am one) because I still had a lot of fun, but the OG run still ranks supreme.
If they ever truly return to this character, I think it would be best to keep him in his time for the vast majority of it and build that world out again, because David did an amazing job of worldbuilding before for 2099.

I think this is a clear example of what happens to a story when the editors are always looking over your head.

We begin in the main Spider-Man books with Miguel O’Hara ending up in 2013 and working on a way to go back to his future. Only to be interrupted by the Spider-Verse event, or the Secret Wars event, or any other Spidey event that requires him.

We get characters introduced, whom I did enjoy, especially Captain America. Still, they are just there because someone demanded they appear so they’d have exposure, and he gets into a rushed relationship, that never had time to be introduced or developed.

All good or at least interesting ideas, but none had the time to shine because editorial wanted him in another place or doing something else.

And to top it all off. The ending was nothing short of terrible. A non-ending just to keep Miguel alive so we can still see him again.

An ok omnibus with many pros and cons typical of mainstream comics. This is actually a collection of different series and it shows in that many plot points linger unfinished between them; we have a lot of time-travel shenanigans too, and it doesn’t help it. Still, a decent reading about my favorite version of spider-man.

Well, it was my first Spider-Man 2099 comic- actually my first superhero comic to be precise. I thoroughly enjoyed the art, and since I’ve always had an interest in variants in comics, I genuinely enjoyed this one.

It’s been about two years since I read it, so the details are pretty fuzzy now, but I remember liking it- and honestly that’s all I can say haha.

Just so disappointed in Peter David these stores are right before the woke era and it has TDS and laughable all the future avenger are jacked women. Just pathetic gay retarded slop. What a disappointment. When I preferred I thought it was 90s stuff like the first Omni
