"We're the D'Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae ex-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Delilah is a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. My sister Menolly is a vampire married to a werepuma. And me? I'm Camille, a wicked-good witch with three sexy husbands. I'm a priestess of the Moon Mother, and I'm training under the Queen of Darkness. Unfortunately, playing in the dark means that sometimes you stumble over secrets better left buried...
"
There's a new Fae sorcerer in town--Bran, the son of Raven Mother and the Black Unicorn--and I'm the unwilling liaison between him and our new Earthside OIA. With cemeteries being ransacked and spirits being harvested by a sinister, otherworldly force, Aeval sends us to rescue the missing wife of a prominent member of the Fae nobility. Our search leads us to the mysterious Aleksais Psychic Network and, ultimately, to face the Lord of Ghosts where Morio and I must undergo a ritual that will plunge us directly into the world of the dead.

The D’Artigo sisters are back and facing another ultimate evil. The Fae triple threat are pushing Camille in her training. The cemeteries are being attacked by a mysterious force that is sucking up all the souls and using them as a power source. All the leads are bring the D’Artigos back to the Alekasais Psychic Network. Camilla believes the Lord of the Ghosts is behind it all and she has been accidently entering his dream world.

This was a fun and exciting addition to the Otherworld series. Lots of action both in and out of the bed. Well in Yasmine Galenorn style not much actually took place in a bed...but I sure you know what I mean.

Camille and her 3 husbands are up against insurmountable odds once again and leaning on the family they built and rebuilding bridges with family lost might just save the day. I have been a huge fan of this series and am looking forward to what adventures lie ahead.

I used to like these books, they were good fantasy with good stories about the female paranormal detectives. At least that's what they used to be about. More and more lately they contain more sex than detecting. If I wanted to read Danielle Steel I could go there. Just getting disinterested in the way this series is going. Maybe it's only Camille that is the energizer bunny of the family.

I like this series but the books are starting to get repetitive. The sisters are repeatedly called out to fight some big bad monster - each book it's a slightly different demon but otherwise the same thing. The sisters and their crew eat a meal (or two), have a nap and some sex and figure out how to defeat the monster. Along the way one of the sisters (whomever is the lead in that particular book) gains new powers so they are actually able to win.

The only real savings grace is that the books are under 300 pages so they are quick reads and the secondary characters are interesting, sometimes more interesting than the sisters.

There’s a new front opening in the war against Shadow Wing – cemetaries are being ransacked of ghostly residents, zombies being raised and a new, sinister psychic network has started in the city

Their all too brief holiday is over, it’s time for Camille and sisters to get back into the action

This world continues to be huge beyond all measure – we have the massive range of different beings, the fae, the elves, dragons, demons, the wereanimals and vampires and witches and magic users of various stripes. We have the different realms, the threat that the demons represent, the battle on so many levels across so many plains. It’s huge, it’s vast and every single part of it is used and involved excellently

While, as I’ve mentioned below, this can lead to some distraction, it also creates a book where everyone lives. Camille and her relationships are really passionate and powerful. They’ve really done a good job of building a home life in the story along side the massive battles against everything this huge world can throw at them. The characters have also grown a lot since the first book. Ok, a lot of that is in the many new shiny powers they have managed to hoard, but there’s also how they grew as people, how they’ve found their level with their various other characters (though I still hate Camille’s relationship with Smoky).

There’s also a real sense that they have built something. For a while I thought we were just going to have random monsters every single book without any real sense if progress. But it has become clear that the war isn’t just about the spirit seals, but also about the networks and allies that Camille and her sisters are building. The war will come, and it won’t simply be a case of who owns the most spirit seals wins. I really wish they’d focus on this far more – the preparation, what the susters have achieved.

Camille has a very high sex drive. And with her three husbands I’m more than tempted to wave a flag and cheer her passionate sexual agency. She is in charge of her sexuality, her desires, her wishes. She dresses sexily, for herself and she feels not the slightest shame as she lives her life loud and clear.

Which is all nice but dear gods, I was mightily sick of her libido by the end of this book. Anything gets Camille going. Anything. She started meditating? Horny. She takes a bath? Horny. She washes the dishes? Horny. Magic ritual? Horny. Just seen a terrible death of civilians? Needs therapeutic horny time! Honestly if she’s not bored by now she should at least be picking up friction burns.

This adds to a general padded feeling of the book which is something we’ve mentioned over and over again through this series. A lot of the old problems continue – the extremely detailed description and dwelling off every meal plan. But we also get lost in the world building – I get it, this world is huge and, as I said, amazing. But not everything needs mentioning every time. Like if the sisters are fighting zombies, we don’t need a brief aside on the many other kinds undead out there. They’re not relevant. And oh ye gods enough with the Stand Alone Stuffing. We do not need the same “let me introduce myself” with every book. This is book 13. THIRTEEN. We know who Camille is.

Mon avis en Français

My English review

I have not read all the volumes of the series but I’ve read several ones. Indeed, it was not really difficult to understand or take the story where I left it. I must say that all the volumes follow the same frame, so when we understand where the story is leading, we can enter each volume without any problems.

I have a strange feeling about this series. I think the ideas are very good and at the same time I can’t really understand the characters or their problems. So it’s true that I’m still a little behind compared to what is happening. I enjoyed the 11th volume and I thought it would be the same with this one. But it is true that it has not really been the case. It is not bad either, even far from that. But ultimately my feeling is still the same. This is an interesting series, but I still do not manage to hang on to whatever happens.

The sisters face many personal problems, but in addition to that, some cemeteries are looted and many spirits disappear without a trace. So this is up to our heroines to understand what is happening. Our young women have evolved a lot through the novels and it’s true that it’s nice to see them happy and fulfilled although it is sometimes quite difficult. But then they have to deal with many events, new informations are revealed here. Each girl has her own life and tries somehow to help. I enjoyed seeing all the Camille’s husbands. They are always explosive and dynamic and it was fun to attend their interactions. The end was also a nice surprise and it’s true that I’m still curious to see what will happen now.

If you like the series, this book is for you, because it is in the same vein as the others.

HAUNTED MOON continues delving deeper into the fascinatingly complex world of the D’Artigo sisters. Not being too familiar with this series I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of characters and their complex relationships. Aside from having to glance back at the glossary multiple times I really enjoyed the deliciously dark plot, lush world, and perilous dangers.

Camille is a tough, kick-ass, and extremely loving heroine. Her relationships with her three husbands is a very unique one in paranormal romance. I was endlessly fascinated by their interactions and how Camille’s husbands so willingly shared their husbandly duties. It was eye-opening to see such equal love for all three of Camille’s husbands and yet she has very different, deep connections with each of them.

After dipping my toe into the Sisters of the Moon series with HAUNTED MOON I am ready to go back and read more about the other D’Artigo sisters and their perspectives on the overarching storyline. I will definitely be picking up AUTUMN WHISPERS, the 14th in the Otherworld/Sisters of the Moon series which comes out September 24, 2013.

Strange things are happening all over in the grave yards. More unusual then normal. Camille, Menolly, and Delilah are on the case. Someone powerful is behind the strange happenings as the sisters barely survived with their lives. They learn exactly who they are dealing with. It is Gulakah, Lord of Ghosts. As if the Lord of Ghosts is not enough, they also come face to face with Bran, son of the Raven Mother and Black Unicorn. In order to stop the Lord of Ghosts, Camille and her youkai-kitsune husband, Morio participate in a dangerous ritual that will bring them close as well as thrust them into the world of the dead.

I just love this series. The D’Artigo sisters are some of my favorite characters. Each one separately are good but together they are great. In the Haunted Moon, Camille is the main focus once again. In this book, readers get to see more of Camille and her transformation as a priestess. The sex scenes involving Camille and her husbands are really steamy. I have come to love all of Camille’s husbands. I do not have one favorite as they are all unique in their own way and they all mush so well together.

The Lord of Ghosts is not someone that I would want to tangle with. The D’Artigo sisters had a good battle on their hands. At least they got one more seal. Now they almost have them all. The ending was a good one. Haunted Moon will not let fans down!

To start with, I must say I love this author's world. It's deep and fascinating, and an inch-thick Otherworld companion volume, covering the different dimensions and the various Otherworld denizens, could easily be written. I like the three main characters (especially Menolly) and how they've grown.

Having said that, this is book #13 in the series, and I simply think the series--as well as this reader--is getting tired. As far as I can tell, there's still two or three books to come before the grand finale, and I'm to the point where I want the author to GET ON with it. Let's wrap this thing up. It's perilously close to jumping the shark, if it hasn't already.

To compare, another of my favorite authors is Ann Aguirre. Her Corine Solomon series runs five books, and her Sirantha Jax series stops at six. Neither the characters nor the storyline feels shortchanged; both series are quite satisfying at their shorter lengths. Even Yasmine Galenorn's other series, the Indigo Court novels, are going to wrap up after (I believe) five books.

There's such a thing as flogging a dead/dying horse. This series doesn't deserve that.

I'm going to update my review as I read the book!! Why? Because it's fun~

9/14/13 7:34 PM

This is retarded, I hate this. I'm gonna keep trying...

Okay, JUST the word kitsune means fox demon/spirit/monster/fairy, saying youkai-kitsune is like saying fox demon demon or fox spirit spirit or fox monster monster or fox fairy fairy... yesh >.< And I knew that already, but I just googled it real quick and you can find the same info in ten seconds...

word choice, ye gods, the word choice!!!!!!!!!!! <----- added a bang every time I winced internally

The point-of-view character is stupid... and the sex is stupid >.<

Okay I can't take anymore... This is full of Mary Sues and lackluster writing and, honestly, I just don't care what happens next - it's not worth continuing to suffer through this.

I GIVE UP - ABANDONED AT PAGE 14 (thank God)

This was a first read book that I won, but it took me a while to get to this review because there are so many books in this series! As in the other books, this book has a unique POV, in this case, it's Camille's turn to once again narrate the course of events. Camille is coming into her magic and she has been practicing often with one of her husbands, Morio. For some reason, I am not a fan of Camille. Is it because she has 3 husbands? Maybe. Also, her magic doesn't always work and she annoyingly is always wearing stilettos and corsets when fighting demon spawn. I mean, let's show a tiny iota of practicality here!

In this story, they are still trying to outsmart Gulakah and his forces, but nothing really epic happens in this book. There are a couple of fights, and a lot more of Camille's menage sex, but other than that, I couldn't really get into this book. Also, my copy seemed buggy as I was always on page 12 of 45 and I found myself starting to skim to get to the end. I did read the next book directly after and it was better in my opinion with much more action.

I really enjoyed this book, but since I never once laughed or cried, not even after finishing it, I'm only going to give it four stars. And yes, this surprises me since this is a Camille book and Camille is my favorite sister.

Anyways, moving on... As the description reads, we were introduced to Bran in this book. Bran is So eventually, I expect we'll see some sort of showdown between the two of them. :-)

Also, I think it was after we met Bran that the :-)

Again as said in the description, the Lord of Ghosts has stepped up his moves Earthside and Camille and Morio undertook a ritual to face him. I am very curious to see how that ritual is going to change Camille, as she was already feeling "different" immediately after it was done. :-)

Camille learned that :-)

How did Gulakah step up his moves Earthside?

In the end, Camille :-)

That latter spoiler...I cut A LOT out, I hope you know. ;-)

After the final battle, it was Beltane. Camille and Morio :-)

And after that, one week later in the book's timeline, Camille's family had their own, belated, Beltane celebration.

Again, though, despite the heartfelt talk the sister had before those final lines, and even though that ending was sweet, I did not shed any tears. So this is just a "four-star book that was very good; I really enjoyed it."

To recap for myself, new creatures/beings in this book

And as I said somewhere above, this was a spirit seal book! Eight have now come to light, leaving just one left to find. And that eighth one. . . :-)

UPDATE: You may have wondered why I didn't give this book a 4.5-stars-great rating. Well, I have started book 14 and a similar issue happened that reminded me. . .

In this book, at one point, during one of the battle sequences, I think we were told that Vanzir (I think it was Vanzir) was there and fighting, but after the fight was done, everyone EXCEPT Vanzir was mentioned as getting in the cars. So where did Vanzir go? He just did a fade. And later popped back into the storyline like nothing had happened.

This caused me *a wee bit* of dissatisfaction and, because I never laughed or cried, I didn't ever really get over that dissatisfaction. :-(

So that is why what seems like a great story from my above review only gets 4 "very good" stars instead of 4.5 "great!" ones. :-/

And now it's happened again! In book 14, in the house with most everybody in the beginning, Roz was said to be trying to make Iris laugh. But then later in this scene, everybody EXCEPT Roz was mentioned. :-(

Now I know that there are A LOT of characters in this series, and the D'Artigo house is full to bursting, but how hard is it to keep track of major secondary characters within one scene? *ARGH!!!*

Normally Camille's POV in this series are my favorite, but this one bogged me down. I am thinking that it is time for this series to wrap up. It seems like with each new book the sisters pick up some new magical power to make them stronger, that the sisters pull together with their clan and the greater supernatural community to beat back the big evil. This one was no different.

I really enjoyed this installment of the Otherworld series. A lot of action, though not as much running around as previous books. Happy to see Morio finally getting some respect. I always felt he was seen as the lowest on the totem pole of Camille’s husbands.

Thirteenth in the Otherworld urban fantasy series revolving around three half-fae/half-human sisters living in Seattle. This particular story is from Camille's point-of-view.

Just as a warning, there has been a lot of suggestive comment in the previous twelve stories about Camille and her three husbands. This is the first time Galenorn comes right out and discretely writes about the men engaging with her. Yes, discretely, because Galenorn isn't flat out really cranking out the erotica here, but she does mention anal penetration, etc.

My Take
This is one of Galenorn's better writings. If you've been following my reviews on this series, you know I complain just about every other story...sigh... I do enjoy her series for the characters she's created and the world she's built. The characters are individual, warm, and loyal while the world incorporates demons, humans, fae, shifters, and other mythical beings in all their glorious individuality with personalities that run the gamut from A to Z, from amazingly caring to disgustingly awful and all the quirks and worries in between.

With all the action these characters get, you'd think Camille would know she'll be running any night at all, so I don't know why she's complaining on this night.

Part of the ritual which Camille must undergo involves three challenges and Galenorn has been quite creative.

Sigh, I do love how Camille's men take care of her.

The Story

It's been a constant battle over the last couple of years with the D'Artigo sisters and their slowly growing group of allies doing their best to hold back the demon Shadow Wing who wants to breach the gates and invade Earth and Otherworld.

In this story, someone is messing around with old graveyards and raising the bones, stealing the ghosts. Even those from Ivana's garden. In the course of her investigation, it's Camille's magic that makes her vulnerable on a dangerous plane. It's also her magic that may save everyone.

The Characters
There are three D'Artigo sisters: Camille, Delilah, and Mennolly. Half-fae, half-human, they are unique individuals who care very much about each other. They live together in an old Victorian in Seattle with their significant others, friends, and allies.

Camille is the oldest and a Moon Maiden, training to be the High Priestess to the Dark side of the Moon Mother after being ordered to pledge herself to Queen Aeval. Her three supernatural husbands---Trillian Zanzera, (Svartan fae and Camille's alpha lover), Morio Kuroyama (Youkai-kitsune, Grandmother Coyote's grandson, who works death magic with Camille, and about to take another step up), and Smoky (a.k.a., Lord Iampaatar, a half-silver/half-white dragon shifter)---have bonded with each other. Rodney is a potty-mouthed bone golem given to Camille by Grandmother Coyote.

Delilah is the middle sister, a two-faced were able to shift into two types of cat, a living Death Maiden, and engaged to Shade, a half-shadow dragon, half-Stradolan.

Mennolly, the youngest, was a jian-tu acrobat-spy before she was caught and turned into a vampire. She and Nerissa Shale, a lone werepuma, who works as a counselor for FH-CSI, got married in Shadow Rising , 12. Mennolly is also Roman's official consort---he's the natural and blood son of Blood Wyne, mother and ruler of the vampires---and since Shadow Rising , she is Roman's heir, and she is bound to Blood Wyne.

Sephreh ob Tanu is the girls' father who has seen the error of his ways. Oh, man, I've always wanted to say that about a parent…! He's the liaison between the reinstated OIA headed up by the girls and the Des'Estar, the queen's guards.

Other allies and friends who live at the house include:
Lady Iris O'Shea, a Finnish house sprite and Priestess of Undutar, is four months pregnant with twins and married to Bruce O'Shea, a leprechaun. Rozurial, a mercenary and incubus, wears a long coat filled with every kind of weapon. Vanzir is a demon acquiring slightly different, and more powerful, powers. Maggie is their baby calico gargoyle. Hanna is a hostage rescued in Hexed: Ice Shards , 9.5, who now helps out at the house.

Detective Chase Johnson heads up the Faerie-Human Crime Scene Investigation (FH-CSI), and he's lucky to be alive. The girls kept him alive with a special potion, and he's learned that he is very distantly related to Queen Asteria. The potion, however, changed him and he's still learning what he can do. Sharah is Queen Asteria's niece, an elfin medic with FB-CSI, Chase's girlfriend and pregnant with his child. Yugi is Chase's second-in-command. Mallen is another elfin medic.

Lindsey Cartridge is the high priestess of an FBH pagan coven of witches and one of her members, Tracy Smyth, has a son, Sean, with a problem. Mystic Charms is a homey magic shop run by Beth, an FBH witch, and her Fae husband, Laslan. Kerri is her FBH daughter. Jake Evans is a wanna-be mage who prefers shortcuts to real work; he's always messing up the books at Mystic Charms. Bran, the son of Raven Mother and the Black Unicorn, is also part of the ritual; he is a sorcerer, a trickster, and Earthside to help train warriors. Camille will be the liaison between Bran and the Earthside agencies. Lord Faerman has lost his wife, Syringa. Tim Winthrop is their friend and the computer guru for the Supe Community Council; Justin Binds is his partner. Even burned down, Fritz and Abby Liebman's house in the Greenbelt Park District is still causing grief.

Vampires Anonymous was founded by Wade and has Roman's blessing. Sassy's house and estate are the new VA headquarters---the Seattle Vampire Nexus. The hate group, Earthborn Brethren, have been quiet since Gambit's death, but now they're out and picketing.

Queen Asteria is the elfin queen; Trenyth is her assistant. A covert team has been sent into the desert in Otherworld to investigate rumors: Darynal is Trillian's blood-oath brother and a mercenary; Taath is a sorcerer; and, Quall is an assassin and the son of one of the leaders in Rhellah they need to investigate.

Additional allies in Otherworld include:
Derisa is the High Priestess from the Grove of the Moon Mother. "The Black Unicorn is the father of the Dahns unicorns and he reincarnates every 1,000 years". In Bone Magic , 7, Camille had to sacrifice him and received his horn and hide. Eriskel is one of the jindasels within the horn who must provide Camille help when she asks. Ivana Krask is the Maiden of Karask, an Elder Fae has lost the ghosts in her garden. Pentangle, the Mother of Magic, and Grandmother Coyote are the Hags of Fate entrusted with keeping the worlds in balance.

Marion Vespa and her husband, Douglas, coyote shifters, are living with Wilbur (he's the girls' neighbor and a necromancer who was injured in Harvest Hunting , 8, the same in which their house and café were burnt down) while they rebuild their house; the café is already rebuilt. Martin is a Wilbur's brother and a zombie.

The Supe Community Council really steps up in this story and includes Jonas, a werebear, an ex-Marine, and an ex-football player, and Frank Willows is a werewolf and a farmer where the girls buy their pork and Mennolly's blood.

Elaqneve is the Elfin lands in Otherworld (OW), which is a human generic reference for another dimension where many of the elves, gods, and Elemental Lords, etc. all live. Access to OW is through portals. The Sidhe and Fae themselves call it Y'Elestrial.

Talamh Lonrach Oll, the Land of Brilliant Apples, is the realm of the Triple Threat and lies in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range. The Court of the Three Queens is that of the three Earthside Fae queens: Titania is the Queen of Light and Morning of the Seelie; Morgaine is a half-Fae Queen of Dusk and Twilight and a very distant cousin to the D'Artigo sisters; and, Aeval is the Queen of Shadow and Night of the Unseelie. The queens are teaching Camille the etiquette and rituals that will take her the next steps into the priestess-hood. Arturo, in love with Morgaine, and Mordred, Morgaine's nephew who hates the girls, are the attendants the night of the ritual.

Gulakah, the Lord of Ghosts, is the current big bad subordinate---he's a god!---to Shadow Wing. And the most powerful so far. Spirit demons are fed by magic and Gulakah is pulling in as much as he can. Tregarts are nasty sorcerers.

Telazhar, a necromancer training demons for Shadow Wing, is back and threatening two fronts. Shadow Wing is the current ruler of the Subterranean Realms. He's also known as the Unraveller. The Aleksais Psychic Network is led by Halcon Davis, and the girls think he's colluding with Gulakah.

The Cover
You know this is Camille's story when the cover is a busty woman striding forward in her knee-high black boots and black, bat-eared bustier, and skirt slit-to-there. It's softened by the halo of lavender sky with a circular tracery of gold dashes and symbols, which in turn encompasses a soft yellow wolf looking over Camille's shoulder.

It's not so much a Haunted Moon as it is the moon which is so great a part of Camille's life.

I upgraded this to 2 stars because I unwittingly read book #13 first. Based on my experience, I will not be reading anything else by this author, but I need to give her the benefit of the doubt. Things I liked about the book? I like that she wrote powerful female characters. I like that the main character has 3 husbands (nice flip of ancient societal views) and that she kicks ass. What I didn't like would take up far too much room, so I will narrow it down to my biggest pet peeves. A very LOT of gratuitous violence and sex that did nothing to promote the plot and bogged the entire book down. I returned the book to the library already so I can't quote any specific examples, but I remember it being rife with terrible cliches and stereotypes. The characters were trite and silly, and I did not feel empathy for any of them. (Especially the main character who puts fashion over common sense, especially while fighting off the bad guys.) I also felt that none of the characters took their situation seriously. It was as though they were playing a game of cops and robbers in their minds. Overall, it was a tedious read, and it was a struggle to get through the entire book. I've been reading posts about the beginning of the series being wonderful, but as bad as this particular book was, I'm not rushing back to the library to find out firsthand.

Camille and the crew being run ragged, as night after night attacks and her amped up magic training. There's a lot of sex with her one or all of her three husbands, while I enjoy a good sex scene, it started to feel excessive. and not necessary to the story. There was also a lot of detailed spell explanation that at first fit with the flow of the story and then started to feel like filler. All things seem to lead toward Gulakah and the Aleksais Psychic Network and Camille risks her life going undercover to try and stop the killings and save disappearing supernaturals.

Each time I open a Galenorn novel, I’m blown away by the world building. She does an amazing job of painting a picture with words. The cast of characters has grown over the years and the new additions have added to the series in a positive way.
Haunted Moon focuses on Camille and her three husbands. There’s a lot of character growth, Camille and Morio dive into their magical training, with incredible results.
This series can be intense at times, but there’s a feeling of tolerance and love among the characters that sparks hope. Always good to visit the D’Artigo sisters and see how they are going to battle it out this time.

I am in love with this writer! love this series, always some action or demon or God or something they need to protect family against . I have enjoyed this series very much. I am going to read the shorts after I complete the series and read her other series because I enjoy her writing style. I would recommend it to those who like the paranormal realms, shifters, vampires, zombie, ghouls it has a little of all the world . fun , exciting, sexy, romantic. Good Good read.

Or however u spell the ghost god. Aquiring another spirit seal. And so much more. Such a colorful array of characters and do full if passion n love. This boik definitely didnt forsake the passion. I love this series but I, too, am getting put off by exhausting orgies throughout. Especially when the main protagonist is exhausted herself, but then has an energetic threesome? Get real. I want a more intelligent plot line, which the series is rapidly losing.
The editing of the last 2-3 books has gotten super sloppy. Characters left at home accidentally appear and disappear. Accidentally called Trenyth Telezhar at one point. Things like that.

I enjoyed it. I'll probably read the next one, but it just feels like they're going on and on with little progress on the war in each book. The stakes in each book also feel weird because each bad guy is somehow worse than the last but none of the main group ever dies or gets injured to the point that it would effect future books.

I'll be honest, I picked it up because she has 3 husbands. 3! What I wouldn't give for a harem of men lol.

Anyway it wasn't bad, I just probably needed to have read the 12 other books before this to get full enjoyment.
