"I can't picture myself being in love with someone else. I guess I've been in love with you forever."
After that boyfriend tragic in her early years, she push herself more to her writing career and never cared to accept any lovers again. But because of her mother's forceful conversations with her, one day, naisip niyang pano kaya kung magkaboyfriend ulit siya after those years at baka ma-inspire ulit siya to write a romance novel.
Then this guy in her neighborhood, Matt, a pediatrician, ay palaging wala sa sarili and it bothered her. Na-curious lang siya kung baka ba may dumi ang fez niya while meeting this Matt guy. Kung ano man ang sekretong tinatago ng lalaking iyon, well, that tall and good face of him made my heart beat again. What if kung malalaman mong that guy already had a crush on you for years? Sasabak ba siya or she will keep herself writing novels hanggang mabulok siya sa body niya?
I've been reading a lot of her works lately at napapansin ko nabo-bored na ako sa book na to but despite of its boringness, tawang tawa pa rin ako sa ibang part, at nahalata ko rin na same ang concept ni Keene Alicante sa iba pang isinulat ni Sofia at Sonia Francesca or it's normal to have a writer as a character of the story and having hard time writing her own novel.
Overall, it was good at di naman ako nagsisi na binasa ko to. May napansin pa akong similarities between the three authors at halata talagang mag-best friend ito that they love kids. Yes! As in most of their works ay may bidang bata or may extrang bata. Di ko naisip na ang mga batang characters can add seasoning to the book. Napaka-sweet ang mga part na yun and the innocent jokes can make things beautiful in the eyes of others.
Na-shock rin ako sa characters because I though Maria Clara type si Natalya if we consider her behavior in the first five books. Di siya masyadong pinakilala, as usual to the Calle Pogi series to make that part, pero parang mahiyain siya at sweet. Halata mo ring wala siya masyadong or wala talagang paki-alam si Natalya kay Matt pero yun pala she's like the other girls in Calle Pogi. I think making things funny, Maria Clara wouldn't suit the whole book.
Spoiler Alert...
May isang scene dito na kaparehas sa book one, di ako makapaniwala, pero no choice. There is this scene where the guy have to call the girl's mother to ask for the place where the character works, then the guy send the manuscript. Yun lang yata, and of course naman, kahit kaunti may kaibahan. The girl here fall asleep in the car while the girl in the book one had to ride with the guy then the girl forgot the manuscript. Is it normal na may mga ganitong kaparehas na scene sa pocketbooks?
Another Matt and Natalya scene. Akala ko talaga walang character development because I love to see Matt na palaging wala sa sarili at di ko naman na-feel yun at akala ko Keene did not emphasize that part. Yun nga pala love can cure everything unusual to a person at sinabi niya yun in the middle part na nasa sarili na palagi si Matt kung katabi niya si Natalya. Well, I think those are the things that I find interesting in the book to discuss. It can even cure diseases without any scientific basis. Love it!
Grado: Matt (Calle Pogi #6) by Keene Alicante, 3 Sweets
In celebration of #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy, I checked my local lit shelf and chanced upon my Calle Pogi series copies c/o Kwesi from years back. I remembered him giving the whole series to encourage me to try the Precious Heart Romances publications. Thattime, back in 2011, I managed to read out of the 10 and forgot about the rest since then. I don't remember abhorring the series or even the writing but I also knew that it didn't spark an interest in me. Coming back to this after so many years, I am surprised to say I vaguely remember what I've read from before. Having read some "Love Stories" romances earlier this year, I can say that these works aren't far from that. These are mainly instalove romance works and if you are hoping to fill some time, these would definitely be super quick reads. Do not expect anything deep here though, it isn't tailored for that. Just a thought that the premise of Calle Pogi on local tv would probably be a hit. Also, kudos to these Phil writers as any form of writing takes effort and dedication.
Grabe. Hahaha.
