On Christmas Day, Detective Chief Inspector Brock's celebrations are interrupted when he is called to a murder at Heathrow Airport. Kerry Hammond was due to fly out to New York with her husband--but never made it further than the car park.
During Graham Ison's thirty-year career in Scotland Yard's Special Branch he was involved in several espionage cases and the investigation into the escape of the spy George Blake. He spent four years at 10 Downing Street as Protection Officer to two Prime Ministers and also served as second-in-command of the Diplomatic Protection Group.
Murder in Heathrow car park at Christmas leads the team on an investigation that is far from merry. The wealthy woman leaves a surprising will, a weird tangle of business goings on and two different smuggling schemes. Amazing rendering of due diligence in this creative fiction! Narration by Damian Lynch was very good at differentiating people and snarks. And that's a good thing! #BrockAndPooleMysteries
I usually enjoy this author's historical fiction, so this was a new venture for me, but it worked well. The plot developed well, and the characters were rounded and elicited my involvement. Brock and Poole are likeable detectives, and I'd like to read more of their adventures. The story line was quite unusual, and it was interesting to see how things developed to solve the murder.
A well-written book. Well-drawn characters and a plot that spins right along. This book is a class above what I usually wind up reading. It's not profound just a lot of from a book that didn't break my budget. Thanks Goodreads.
