The Fallen #2

Mercy for the Wicked

Rate this book
From Bestselling Paranormal Romance Author Lisa Olsen - Book Two of The Fallen"How do you tell a guy you're being stalked by demons without sounding like a fruitcake? Even if he really cares about you, there's bound to be that moment when he looks at you like you're a total nutbar, right?"Mercy is back, and in a world of trouble as factions from above and below vie for her attention, pulling her from the carefully constructed 'normalcy' of her life. After confessing all to boyfriend Ben, Mercy is counting on fallen angel Samael to help protect her while she deals with the sting of Adam's abandonment. But self control has never been Adam's strong suit. When Mercy is pursued from all sides, will Adam be able to resist playing the hero? Or will Mercy get tired of waiting and save herself? In the end, Mercy must decide, is the enemy of her enemy her friend? Or just a worse enemy?Editorial ReviewLisa Olsen turns up the heat with this sequel to Angel of Mercy. Mercy for the Wicked gets off to a running start, as we pick up right where the last book left off with Mercy finally filling in dependable boyfriend Detective Ben Gates on her trouble with angels. Of course she glosses over the fact that she's still secretly lusting over sexy, fallen angel Adam and we can count on Adam not to stay away for too long, despite his best intentions for keeping her safe. It's encouraging to see Mercy take more of an active role in her plight, no longer the damsel in distress. Mercy for the Wicked introduces a cast of new characters including fallen angel Azazael who wants to use Mercy to escape his dark prison, and a host of demons who kidnap Mercy for their own agenda. We find answers to many lingering questions left by Angel of Mercy, but just as many new ones surface for an eagerly awaited sequel.

Mercy for the Wicked ( The Fallen), Book 2
I loved this book! But then again, I’ve loved every book I’ve read by Lisa Olsen. The voices and characters are unique. Love the premise! Hybrid human-angel-girl has a demon, an evil angel, and God’s angels hot on her trail while she tries to make things work with her human boyfriend but pines away for her beloved angle boyfriend.
Merceline: Is a hybrid angel of sorts. In the last book Sam, the angle gave her a little grace to help her survive a bullet wound.
In book 2, she shows off the powers that she’s obtained through the grace such as healing and being able to go to the Ether world. The only thing she can’t seem to heal is her broken heart and longing for the one she loves, Adameal, an angel, known as Adam. The book takes off where the other left where she’s trying to make her relationship work with her human boyfriend, and forget Adam. But will she?
Ben: Is Mercy’s human boyfriend. Will he accept her as she is? A broken angel. Or will he get his heart broken trying to do so?
Adam: Is the hot and sarcastic fallen angel, Mercy is in love with. Will he chance being with her and lose her completely to death? The Big Guy in the sky doesn’t approve. Or will he continue to keep his distance, even when she’s in danger?
Azazeal: He’s the bad fallen angel who is pretty equal to the anti-christ in my book. Will he succeed getting into Merce’s pants? Will his plan for world domination happen?
Nathniel: He’s the angel that would like to take Merce out. Since her kind is an abomination. Will he destroy her?
Sam: Is the fallen angel Samueliel. He’s absolutely adorable and naive in every way imaginable. Will he fall for Merce’s best friend Daphne?
Daphne: She’s Merce’s best friend. Has she fallen for Sam?
Hubie: Is a demon who has been sent to kidnap Merce. Will he suck her dry of her grace before they reach Raum?
Raum: Raum is pretty much Satan himself who imprisons Merce in hopes to deplete her of her grace. Does he succeed?
Nilo: Is an adorable little imp that has been assigned to Merce in her prison cell Raum set up for her. Will Nilo set aside his fears of Raum and help Merce escape?
The Angel of Death: Will he be one of Merce’s greatest allies when it comes to the Big Guy in the sky and the army of angels?
Note: There was a couple issues with POV, but I would blame it more on formatting because I got over those hurdles quickly. Her writing was smooth and easy to follow despite those two humps.

Another cliffhanger

Unbelievable! Another cliffhanger! I really like this story but I dislike cliffhangers. Mercy can be a bit dramatic and flaky, however I would probably be worse if it was me. Alot happens to her in this story. My favorite part is when her and Adam finally get together. Loved it. The only part I disliked, besides the cliffhanger is how it went down with Ben. That really needs to be worked out soon.

Lisa Olsen does it again! "Mercy for the Wicked" is a continuation of the story in "Angel of Mercy," where Merceline was accidentally gifted with Grace from a fallen angel who was only trying to save her life. She is left "something new," not quite human but not an angel either. Caught between two worlds, Mercy struggles with her forbidden attraction for bad boy fallen angel, Adam, and a safe, normal relationship with her human cop boyfriend, Ben. With angels and demons after her at every turn, both relationships seemed destined for failure.

Olsen has a way of creating lively, fully developed, realistic characters who draw the reader in, make you laugh, and make you care what happens to them. Their motivations and decisions are easy to follow. Their dialogue and quirky personalities are fun to read. I will excitedly await the next installment in "The Fallen" series to see how things are resolved.

Mercy has to deal with the fact that Adam has left her and she is trying to move on with her life with Ben, but the powers that be are fighting for control of her, and she is caught in the middle of the battle, and Mercy has to rely on Sam to protect her.

Again, could not stop once I started!!!!

It starts with a good pace, it moves along awkwardly and then ends with a cliffhanger. Okay maybe not a cliffhanger and more like a puzzle. I was dead set on not continuing this series but I was stuck at the clinic waiting for my turn with no other book on hand so, I turned the page (ebook) and moved on to the next book, the third in this series.

It's super-fast read. Reverse harem-type of story. I've seen the formula of the plot before. I feel I know what is going to happen next which is why I was, am, reluctant to continue. This series is really a lot like the Hot Damned series, only a lot less vulgar, in all senses of that word.

Rated three stars for trying. This may not have passed the Bechdel test. And the female main character has a lot of brain left to be desired. But Sam (a supporting male character) really won me over. There's just something quirky and endearing about his character growth that didn't seem cheesy or awkward. I hope it stays that way.

[Edit: Actually, I think it did pass the Bechdel test. The MC did have a vague conversation with a seer-type character. If they weren't talking about men then I suppose you could say this passes.]

OK. I am not thrilled with the love interest and one character got a raw deal and the LL accepted it. Boo.

Book two of the fallen series by the talented storyteller Lisa Olsen, it picks up directly after the previous book. I loved reading this book as it explored more of the Angel and demon world with mercy caught in the middle of it all. I loved the introduction to new characters like the demons raum, Ubel, hubie, Bert, nelo, naberios and the angels Gabriel and raziel. I loved reading this book the only thing that irked me was Ben and adams behaviour get with Adam because he lost his wife Mariah he wants to keep mercy safe however he keeps making decisions for her that keep getting hurt one way or another, and I didn’t like Ben’s treatment of mercy either when he reacts to being verbal abusive to her after she returned from an ordeal not exactly a supportive boyfriend, but the rest of the book I loved it it was highly entertaining and enjoyable book to read.

Following the events of the previous book mercy and Ben leave the Halloween party at eden and head back to her apartment where she tells him that she’s being stalked by demons because of some project states she is the key to a evil fallen Angel azazael to free himself from his prison she comes clean about her angelic abilities. Azazael meets mercy in the ether a world between dreams and the waking world he tries to seduce her and Adam arrives and takes her away he gifts her some of his grace revealing his love for her but still chooses to stay away, she visits Sam and tells him what happened he tells her the ether is the only place he can visit her without drawing attention to the angels watching her. He’s afraid his love for her will get her killed like his wife Mariah. She learns Adam hates azazael because he was the first to take a human wife and other angels followed causing corruption when they were being worshipped which caused them to be punished. Sam warns her that azazael will need to have sex with her to be free and he can shapeshift into someone she loves to trick her, also Raum the demon lord is after her and keeps sending demons after her, her friendship with Parker grows strained when he introduces his girlfriend Sharona who mercy senses is a bad person and warns him but he gets angry at her. Daphne and Sam and mercy watch movies together, her relationship with Ben grows strained because Sam has to be near her all times to protect her from the demon attacks when she goes to visit him she’s kidnapped by demons hubie and Bert who take her to the demon land midian to raum who forcibly feeds on her grace she calls to Adam for help he does come but refuses to take her from midian stating she’s safer there from azazael but she angrily confronts him about azazael nearly raping her and raum forcibly feeding her grace he’s horrified and helps her to learn how to fight with her grace to defend herself and leaves but after she’s attacked by raum the demon imp Nelo offers to help her escape and they do of course a favour is owed to the gate guardian Naberious but she returns home to learn it’s only been hours passed on earth instead of days in midian, she reunited with Sam and later Ben who just verbally attacks her and basically breaks up with her Adam visits her in the ether they have sex and he tells her about Mariah that she was pregnant with a Nephilim which is why she got killed and he wasn’t there for her because he was helping Sam adjust to being a fallen after refusing to kill Adams wife, when mercy and Daphne go to do Christmas shopping she hears a strange sound it’s a horn Gabriel’s horn she runs into Sam and they spy on an Angel meeting where she joins them Gabriel allows her to stay and the Angel raziel defends her against Nathaniel she hears about a possible prophet needing to be checked out before deciding to leave Gabriel gifts her with a sword, days pass by she hasn’t heard from Adam but azazael turns up pretending to be him but he leaves. She and Parker fix their friendship when he reveals she was right about sharona and he invites Ben to come talk to mercy so they can fix things which in this case officially end things, they go back to her apartment and when she tells him she loves Adam he lashes out but she realises he’s possessed by azazael and Adam arrives and ties the unconscious Ben up with blessed ropes which will trap azazael in ben’s body and tells her both Ben and he have to go fo midian where azazael can’t get free and for him to fulfill his end of the bargain he struck with raum to get his demons to back off on mercy by allowing raum to feed off his grace for 366 days, she’s heartbroken and has thanksgiving with Daphne, Sam, Parker, Matt and nelo she tells them everything and she plans to get both Ben and Adam back they agree to help but are interrupted by the sudden arrival of raziel.

Normally after the second book in a series i am done or close to done but this series has me hook line and sinker. Witty thought provoking and very well written. I still don't like Adam and was proud of Mercy originally for not falling for the shallow conceded angel. Now I don't think he's shallow but he's still conceded and that has always been a HUGE turn off for me. But Adams antics make the story interesting.

Highly recommended and although the first book is free the subsequent ones are not.

Terrible read. Stringing one guy along, pining over another, recieves this amazing gift yet all she can think about is herself and doesnt go beyond her love life, plus is constantly in situations where she needs help from other. People are in love with her (not sure why). And the ending... Was absolutely horrible.
Long story short, selfish, helpless girl constantly in trouble, "Adam/Ben help me!"

This was an awesome read. The effortless way she writes makes you feel that Mercy is in the room with you telling her story. I was so taken that I read the book in one sitting and no sleep. Highly recommended!

I really love Lisa's book - another fine tome here with great and likable characters all in a fine setting with a good dose of mystery. There are some similarities to other 'academy' style novels, however, I don't feel that this detracts from the value of the essential tale.
