First of all, it’s beautifully written. This is a YA paranormal-fantasy romance with dual POV. Jenna has a sense of humor that will have you laughing out loud at times. Ethan is an introvert, old soul with a kind heart. I enjoyed the chemistry between Jenna and Ethan. I love how supportive Ethan is and how funny Jenna is. Faith did an extraordinary job writing these characters and hooking you into this world almost immediately. Ethan has special abilities that allow him to see your “soul” or your soul aura. I love that Ethan pushed himself to be his best version of himself for Jenna.

This is the perfect air plane book! Perfect perfect perfect. It gives you all the good feels. Quick novel. 10/10 recommend

Quotes:
“I’m lost in an indigo fog as her lips touch mine. The gentle vibration of her soul song rumbles over me.”

“It's like," Jenna starts, and then stops. "I don't know, this is going to sound weird. When I'm with you, I feel like I'm in a magnetic force field. Every atom around me is pushing me towards you."

Much love and thanks for the author, Faith Prince, reaching out to me for an honest review!

2.75 stars

This story is definitely geared toward the Young in Young Adult. The main characters are 16/17, juniors in high school, and most of the story was very juvenile, especially compared to what I'm usually reading. I'm finding that I'm getting more and more away from the Young Adult genre, though there does seem to be several different maturity levels in YA nowadays. I would say Juvenile/Beginner YA, OG YA, Mature YA, and this is for sure Beginner level.

But there were a lot of really interesting storylines that I wish would have been explored a little more. Overall, I think this is a good story for young readers to start out with, especially if they want to read about people who have social anxiety, autism, dealing with bullies, etc.

Wild Souls is the amazing debut of Faith Prince. Faith, thank you so much for sharing your book with me in exchange for an honest review. I was absolutely mesmerized by the story and the journey the characters are on.

In all fairness, I didn't know what to truly expect before I started reading this book. I read a lot of debut novels or novels from indie authors. And sometimes while reading, you pick up the signs of a first novel. But I didn't have that with Wild Souls at all. This is book perfectly written, I found no mistakes and I was completely caught up in the story.

This book is about Ethan and Jenna. Jenna moved to a new time a while ago. She has built a friendship with Mia and Carley and is trying to find her place at school and in the town. I absolutely adore how confident and strong Jenna is. She isn't scared to voice her opinions and she fights for the ones she loves. I love how loyal she is to her friends and how truthful the words are that she speaks.

Ethan on the other hand is very shy. He has a gift. He can see the souls and emotions of people. But he has lost his grip on it. He closes himself off and avoids places with lots of people. He has one friend Alex who accepts him for who he is. And when he looks people directly in their eyes. He can see their darkest secrets or their greatest joys. And he struggles with that, often looking down.

In this world there is also a tool called Mind-Reel. It's a device that makes you see things, experience things from another point of view. The youth especially use it.

One day Ethan gets bullied and Jenna helps him out. Ethan is too scared to talk to her. But when she makes a reel, he decides to watch it and contact her. And that is where their friendship and love begins. They connect instantly intellectually. I love how easy going their friendship is. And it was such a joy to see them fall in love.

And that is what this book is about. It's about love and support. Can Ethan tell Jenna the truth about himself and his abilities? Is he able to go out into the world and truly experience things.

It's about Jenna and how absent her father is. How loyal she is to him and how much that hurts.
It's about Ethan embracing himself, trying to learn to trust in himself. I love how much support they give one another. And how strong they are for the people around them.

I love the side characters too. Alex has a close place in my heart. And Mia, oh Mia - she is so strong and brave. I love the new friends Jenna makes.
I cheered at times, and at times my heart broke.

I truly didn't expect to love this book as much as I did. It took me by surprise and I loved that.

5 HUGE stars from me for Wild Souls! Stunning debut novel. I truly recommend this one.

Very compelling read

Two contrasting but oddly compatible characters who work out well despite their different personalities (at least from first glance). A lot to digest around them too, making this well worth the read

What an extraordinary debut by author Faith Prince. Paranormal and/or fantasy are not my usual genres, but stepping out of your usual selections can become an exceptional reading experience. The novel is beautifully written with universal themes in a contemporary setting. The beautiful cover intrigues readers, and the compelling story captures their attention. I hope it will capture you.

Ethan Underwood is treated as an outsider at school. That may be putting it mildly. He’s an outcast-a pariah. But one night, Ethan uses a software program and begins talking with a girl named Jenna Farrell. Ethan thinks Jenna is fearless but is life as easy for Jenna as it appears? Conversations are terrific until Jenna wants to meet Ethan in person. Is it an ending or a beginning for each of them?

This novel is marketed as Teen & Young Adult Contemporary Fiction, specifically in Paranormal Romance, Paranormal & Urban Fantasy, and Paranormal & Urban Fantasy Romance. I will remain hopeful that it is instead placed on contemporary fiction shelves without the YA* designation to expand the potential audience for this novel. I’d love to see this novel reach a broader audience. Enfold yourself in the beauty of the descriptive writing. The messages within are for all ages. Regardless of age, characters will resonate, and the gifts of the story are timeless, insightful, and uplifting.

*Young adult fiction (YA) is a category of fiction written for readers from 12 to 18 years of age.

“Now I know why we were so drawn to each other. We both have wild souls,” I breathe.”

As a debut novel, Wild Souls is such a charming and well composed YA paranormal, science fiction story. I really enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Such a captivating and unique plot. We have Ethan Underwood, the quiet and awkward boy that everyone thinks is crazy and Jenna Farrell, a free spirited, independent, and quirky girl as the main characters and POV’s and I adore them both so much!

Ethan has always had a gift of seeing peoples true colors, literally. Sort of like synesthesia but paranormal. He’s grown up his whole life trying to shield himself from the energies, auras and demons that he sees within everyone’s soul and in turn becomes the outcast in school. When he’s being bullied one day, Jenna steps in to defend him. New to town, she has no clue who Ethan is or why he’s considered an outcast until later on. Through a virtual app, they start talking and instantly hit it off. They both overcome challenges separately and together over the course of a school year. This story to me is so much about growth. We see throughout the book how much Ethan and Jenna evolve in their own ways from strength to acceptance. I absolutely adored their relationship. The way they both love each other and show it is everything despite the challenges. Ethan and Jenna have my heart!

“Jennalivesfree: What does my soul look like?
Soulseer23: Like an endless sparkling sunset drifting along a deep, starry indigo ocean. It's beautiful.”

Faith Prince’s writing is so vivid and well written. The flow was smooth, fast paced and overall refreshing. She pulls you into this book by engrossing all of the senses and I loved that. Such descriptive writing which I think very much reflected Ethan’s abilities. The atmosphere she creates is captivating, especially when in Ethan’s perspective. And I liked how she started the book from his perspective and ended it in his as well. All the characters are well developed and each of them give a little bit more to the way Jenna and Ethan evolve. Such a heartwarming ending too! Definitely recommend to anyone who likes a fast paced, unique, paranormal sci fi with lovable characters and a story that has meaning behind it. Such a good read!

This is truly my favorite book EVER! It's been a couple months since I finished it, and I'm going to read it again. That's how much I love this book.

I love how Jenna and Ethan aren't perfect, but are perfect for each other. I love how they both grow into better people because of each other, but they don't actually try to change each other.

I love the writing style, the cool technology and descriptions of people's souls. I love the deeper meaning behind the story. I love everything about this book!

This was such a quick and enjoyable read! This book was so well written and there was so much packed into this story. I loved the main characters Ethan and Jenna and how their characters developed throughout the book. I enjoyed switching POVs between Jenna and Ethan. I found Ethan’s ability to see into people’s souls to be fascinating and I loved the descriptions of what he saw. I can’t think of anything I disliked about this one! If you love young adult fantasy/romance you should definitely give this one a try!

I received a copy of this book for my honest opinion

With this book being a debut novel, it was a charming paranormal romance, with sci-fi weaved throughout it. I really loved this story; it was a unique plot for me. You have Ethan who is an awkward boy, who is shy but only because he can see people’s souls. Jenna is carefree, strong, and not a follower like others in the school. After meeting on an app, they chat for hours about nothing, about everything. It wasn’t under the next time when Jenna says she wants to meet up with him at school does he panic.

I love that Ethan has his own superpowers. He can see people’s souls, their colors, or their spirit animals. Then you have some people who are not good people deep down to their soul. He sees their darkness and their horrible blood thirsty spirit animals. What makes it worse is no one else can see these things and everyone thinks he is crazy. Jenna is a sweet, down to earth, carefree spirit. She doesn’t care what others think and she is always willing to help others. I loved both characters and I think they complimented each other very well. I loved being able to see each of them grow and develop on their own but seeing them help each other was just adorable. You really could feel the love that they had for each other, and it showed when they would support each other.

This book was well paced and with Faith Prince's writing style I was able to see what was being described. I loved the world that she built for someone’s souls and how each of them has their good and bad sides. I will be recommending this book to anyone that wants to try fantasy/paranormal ya book.
I want to thank Faith Prince for allowing me the opportunity to read and review her book

Overall rating: 4/5⭐️’s

We have our two main characters, Ethan and Jenna. Ethan has special abilities that allow him to see your “soul” or your soul aura. He isn’t liked by the people around him, he is constantly called delusional and dangerous. Then we have Jenna which is an ordinary girl that goes to school with Ethan and she doesn’t believe the things other people say about Ethan and want to get to know him. As they get to know each other (Jenna doesn’t know about Ethan’s abilities, no one does) they begin to get closer than they thought. Andddd drama, love, suspense follows from there!

Pros:
-the beginning hooked me
-I alr love the authors writing style
-I like the settings, little elements of fantasy thrown into the romance storyline
-this book is so stinking cute
-love the description this book has, even though there’s fantasy elements.. the story feels so real
-im obssesed with the main character (Jenna). She is so funny and has no filter at all.
-I enjoy the dual povs from Ethan and Jenna, I feel like it makes the story so much more complete
-I feel like the descriptions were done very well and I can picture all the “souls” that are explained throughout the book with lots of detail
-loved the ending of the book, the development in both the plot and characters were done so well. I was very very content with the ending.

Cons:
-did feel a little bit slow in the middle but not for long where I got bored
-I feel like I wanted a little bit more from the other characters in the book as well

Overall, I loved this book. I wasn’t expecting to love it as much considering I’m not the biggest fantasy reader but this one was different, it wasn’t necessarily fantasy but it had those little elements that made it perfect. The only reason I didn’t give this a 5 stars was because it didn’t give me that 5 star feeling. I really recommend this to you all if you want a light hearted, funny, cutesy read with a touch of fantasy!💞

Outstanding!

I absolutely loved this book.

First of all, it’s beautifully written. It’s a smooth and easy read with realistic dialogue and lovable characters. And the concept is great. Seeing through people’s souls, seeing them for what they really are—is that a blessing or a curse? More like the latter, it seems at first, and I felt so sorry for Ethan when I imagined everything he had to go through while interacting with people. But then comes Jenna and shows us that love is a superpower too. She also sees him for what he is, accepts him, and loves him unconditionally. And together they can achieve great things.

Faith Prince is an incredibly talented writer, and I know for sure that I won’t doubt whether to read her next books. If her debut is this perfect, I’m definitely looking forward to reading more!

Highly recommend this book!

Jenna is new to town and wears her heart and personality on her sleeve. She befriends social recluse, Ethan, who struggle with peer interaction due to a supernatural ability to see others’ soul auras and memories. Jenna and Ethan grow in their relationship as they spend more time together as well as with the aid of cutting edge tech. Will Jenna help Ethan to see himself the way she does?

This fast paced read is perfect for teens/YA fans! I appreciated Jenna’s quirkiness and the idea of fear preventing intimacy with others. Would recommend!

This is a YA paranormal romance with amazing character development. Ethan can see the soul of every human he comes into contact with, and it makes him the town pariah. His relationship with Jenna and her support of him helps him see the good sides of people and his ability. It also helps him learn how to interact with a world that seems so far out of his reach.

Beautifully written, and a wholly unique concept. I absolutely recommend this; it is good for the soul.

My first YA fantasy romance 📖 I think it was a perfect story to dabble into the fantasy world. Such a well written & easy to follow story line.

Ethan & Jenna

Let me start by saying I love dual POV so I was already hooked by ch 2
Jenna is hilarious..I seriously laugh out loud. Both characters are relatable I enjoyed their romance.
Jenna is my favorite YA character she is so funny, compassionate, quirky and a heart full of love and positivity.

The ability to see souls had me so fascinated from page one. The whole time I wondered how mine would look 🤔

Quick Reasons: interesting paranormal romance; instalove; purple prose that is also slightly juvenile; I'm not sure I fully understand what happened here

HUGE thanks to Faith Prince and Prince Publishing for the title! My review is voluntarily done and in no way impacted by the gesture.

"People work so hard on perfecting their facade, on creating an exterior that they're proud of, an outer coating for the rest of the world to see. But when Ethan Underwood looks at them, he sees right through that. He sees who they really are. That terrifies them."

This was a bittersweet book for me to read and review, Penguins. Let's start with the SWEET bits, shall we? First, Jenna absolutively posolutely reminds me of me when I was in high school. She's creative; she's quirky; she doesn't really care what anyone else thinks of her; she's a badass. I was transported, reading her journey, back to that time for myself...and I found myself wondering just what happened to that girl from before. That girl from years ago. The prose in this is rich and vivid, filled with complex descriptions that play with all the senses. The story is unique; I found myself wanting to know more about Ethan and his "ability"/"disability"-- being able to SEE auras/souls? SO COOL.

BUT....the bitter. This was definitely a HEAVY case of instalove, which we all know is one of my least favorite things. While the world was rich and detailed and captivating, I found the dialogue to be rather juvenile, and yet somehow the characters ALSO had like... all the abilities to go out and do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted? There were times they seemed like they were pre-teen, with their interactions and reactions...but at the same time, they're able to drive by themselves 3 hours to NYC for the day? I was very confused about this to be honest. Ethan's mom also does not seem to play as much a part in this story as Jenna's family, and I found myself wondering why that was. AND, to top it all off...while the "magic" was fresh and the story was intriguing enough for me to keep reading, I found it lacking in real ANSWERS (where did Ethan's ability/disability come from? are there others like him in the world? does he ACTUALLY get "hurt" by the bad creatures? how? why?)

"We both know there's a higher likelihood of satanic koalas taking over the city than me letting you face whatever this is alone."

As excited as I was for this read, I found it just did not end up being the book for me. HOWEVER! That does not mean it's not the read for YOU, dear Penguins. I recommend this to lovers of the fantastical, those who like ideas such as soul-seers/aura readers, and readers who don't mind a little bit of INSTA with their love. How wild is YOUR soul, Penguins?

🔮REVIEW🔮

Ethan is an introvert who hails from a small town called Roxbury. He's not your average teenage boy, oh no, Ethan has a gift (although he might tell you it's more of a curse). This gift allows him to see right through people to their souls, souls that so happen to come in an array of different shades of colour which are known as Auras. Souls that just so happen to give off smells and sensations, which if Ethan happens to be in a crowded place, is no good for him because they tend to bombard him. And that leads to sensory overload followed by a breakdown. Because of this he's an outcast and often labelled a psycho, freak or a loser.

Souls are also equipped with soul-animals (the evil ones tend to attack him) and not all of them are friendly. Some are downright nefarious. Which is why you'll find Ethan with his eyes constantly on the ground. All it takes is one glance into someones eyes and he can see all the dirty dark secrets that most people try to conceal. It's more than a little overwhelming for him which is why he keeps his head down, keeps to himself and stays indoors.

That is until a little firecracker named Jenna comes into his life. Jenna is smart, funny, with a dark sense of humour and a colourful creative way of spinning metaphors to match. She also has a marvellous way of telling stories and in absolutely no way supports injustice. She has this way with words that'll make you fall in love with her.

Ethan is very self deprecating and Jenna will not stand for it. When he's negative about himself, she makes sure to lift him up in her very Jenna way. When Ethan revealed his gift to her, she didn't make him feel crazy or call him names. She accepted him for who he is and didn't try to change him. She loved him as he was and made sure he felt worthy of her love. He also made great strides because of her, although she'll take none of the credit for it, he's now able to be in company without freaking out too much. All because she helped him and supported him.

Side note: these two are Potter fans so loving them was a no brainer!!

This book had me hooked from the first page and that rarely happens. If you enjoy cute, sweet romances then I'd highly recommend you try this one.

When I started reading this book initially I thought I would be confused by Ethan’s soul-seeing as the whole concept didn’t initially click in my brain; however that wasn’t the case at all! I really enjoyed the book and loved Ethan’s perspective when you’d really get a chance to see what he sees in others. I also loved Jenna and her quirkiness which I feel like a lot of young adults can relate to—and all her Harry Potter references made me so happy.

The whole story was very hopeful and dealt with a lot of issues that kids will encounter such as divorce, bullying, etc and in each instance I felt hopeful everything would turn out the way it should.

My only complaint would be I wish this book was a bit longer! Occasionally when the MCs would encounter a problem, it would come out of no where or be resolved in a few pages.

I would absolutely recommend this book, it was a great YA romance novel with fantasy elements incorporated throughout.

I could not have been happier I was asked to read this for a review.

In short: I will never stop talking about this book. Seriously.

Honestly though. It has a great mix of fantasy and realistic/future fiction. I just finished this book and want to read it again. There are a few fourth wall breaks that fit perfectly into the story. It's high school, but just enough adult themes to really pull you through. The chemistry between the MCs, how they deal with hiccups, and the sincere way they support each other was organic feeling. And the real-life approach to dealing with "villains" has me wanting to really look at the evil in my life.

Shaviah is my favorite character who was barely in it. I hope to see her more, even in a short story.

Firstly I need to say a big thank you to Faith Prince, for reaching out to me regarding her debut YA paranormal novel: Wild Souls! I went into this story not really knowing what to expect, & have been completely delighted by what I read.

Within Wild Souls, Ethan & Jenna are in high school. Believed to be both a freak & a liar, Ethan is actually neither. But what makes him unique is that he can see people’s souls, & the nature of the people surrounding him. Jenna is the only one who wants to know him, all thanks to a social media app which let him begin talking to her anonymously. With the rest of the school ostracising Ethan, only Jenna can break down his defences thanks to her fascination with the paranormal… But will Ethan ever learn how to defeat his demons? Can Jenna find a way to be okay with her flighty Dad? This growing connection between Ethan & Jenna could make or break them…

Wild Souls is for anyone who has felt like they don’t fit in. If you’ve ever felt like you’re too different, too much, even too quirky? This beautiful tale shows us that there *is* a place for us. And through Ethan’s journey, it’s shown again & again that who we are is exactly what the world needs. I love that Faith gives us characters who aren’t cookie cutter, as well those who are courageous enough to be different.

The damsel in distress trope is also well & truly overturned in this YA paranormal story. In fact, the first interaction between Jenna & Ethan is when Jenna literally comes to Ethan’s rescue! That’s not to say Jenna is trouble free, because she isn’t. But it is Ethan who has the turmoil of seeing the darkest of souls, & Jenna is the one to persuade him to face his demons...

Beautiful

This is such a beautiful book. Ethan and Jenna are true soul mates. Together, they’re more than they are apart. They support each other, help each other win their battles, and create a unique future with each other. This is more than a book about falling in love. It’s a book about being brave and learning not just to live with being different but to celebrate it.
Highly recommended.

YA Fantasy/SciFi Romance

⭐️ What an adorable high school romance with some fantasy and sci-fi elements too! I’m so impressed with this debut novel. It was a beautiful look into neurodivergence and self-acceptance. Plus it was a quick and easy read!

👾 Ethan is dealing with things that many high school kids deal with: girls, friends, absent fathers, social anxiety, neurodivergence… Oh, and he can see/feel the essence of people’s souls when he looks at them. NBD.
🐆 Jenna is a girl who doesn’t fit the norm who just moved to Ethan’s tiny little town. She sees Ethan for who he is, not how other’s want her to see him. Her strength and positivity is infectious. She’s the extroverted friend that every introvert needs.

What I loved
🗡️so much of the writing! The descriptions, the metaphors… it was almost poetic at times
🗡️ Jenna: what a little weirdo, I loved her so much. She’s super quirky in the way that only a high school girl can be
🗡️The futuristic technologies
🗡️The MMC’s growth
🗡️All the references (Harry Potter, Mean Girls, Twilight, Xena, Disney, superheroes, and soo many more)
🗡️The side mystery that isn’t relevant until it’s VERY relevant
🗡️ SO many deep, quotable moments and messages
🗡️ SO CUTE! The ending was perfect

Why not 5 stars?
🐍 This is YA - the kids are in high school, so they act like high schoolers. And that’s fine! But for me (as a 29 year old) I didn’t relate to the characters in that way
🐍 Some parts (e.g. Mind Merge) were a bit rushed

⚠️CW⚠️

- insinuation of parental abuse/alcoholism
- absent fathers
- toxic mothers
- ❗️sexual assault (some detail) and rape (mentioned) by male teacher

Creative and heartwarming gentle love story

Plot summary:

Ethan is different. He can see souls and everyone’s deepest secrets. Who wouldn’t be unnerved by someone like him? Not to mention, people’s souls interact with the world around them - attacking him or otherwise overwhelming his senses.

Jenna is new to town. She lives to her own drum beat - “carpe diem” is her motto. She doesn’t believe the rumors about Ethan. As they meet and grow in their relationship, will Ethan reveal the truth?

My review:
Oh my goodness! What a beautiful YA story! I love, love, love deep descriptions, and the way Prince envisions souls leaves me breathless. The two main characters experience growth and are written as believable teens. This is a great coming-of-age tale with invaluable lessons for adults and teens both. Stay true to who you are, stay proud of who you are, and don’t let life’s bullies dim your soul.

This book seemed 100% up my alley when I read the synopsis, but I still wasn’t quite sure what to expect and despite knowing the premise it was not exactly what I thought it would be. Frankly, it was better.

I really really really enjoyed this book. It almost sort of reminded me of what it’s like to be an introvert dealing with extroverts, but it was also absolutely its own story with characters who I got fully invested in, a magic system that was both believable and very unique and interesting, and a world not unlike our own in most ways.

Ethan and Jenna are both like and unlike typical high schoolers, they have their not-always-perfect home lives and grades to keep up and they also have a virtual reality world in which they can literally see the world how another person does and that alone is mind blowing but where it goes… we’ll you’ll have to read it to find out (no spoilers!) but I can guarantee you this book fit my personal requirements for a happy ending and tying up all of the hanging plot points and I would ABSOLUTELY read a book by Faith Prince again.

Thank you Faith for providing me with a review copy I’m exchange for my honest review.
