This up-to-date, full-color makeup manual is designed to lie open on the makeup table right as a guide for student, amateur, or professional performers.
It’s mainly a guide to makeup in theater it is helpful that it has the steps in pictures and it’s all short, a bit of a plus for having a list of materials
I used to do makeup for a haunted house… years and years ago, and have been recently asked to do some stage makeup for a play that my church will be doing this spring. I picked this book up to refresh my understanding of stage makeup and found this to be good for mostly large stage applications. The information is good, but I found the style of the artist to be very heavy and not well blended (large stage apps)
Nice little guide with the very basics. While the basic techniques are still the same, the book is a bit dated today. I also found the sections on animal makeups and stylized makeups inspired by paintings to be a bit long since they won't be used nearly as much as period makeup or basic special effects.
This is a great guide for theatre makeup for new or young actors. I use this book in the makeup classes I teach to middle & high school students. Great step by step color photos with clear descriptions.
Color photos are a great help but the makeup is rugged and basic. The blocky style will help students who need more defined photos of contouring and shading.
