Our ultimate goal in this life is to find our way back home with Allah and to return with a sound heart... A good book to revive your heart and to help those who feel empty inside.
I give major major major props to Yasmin for keeping it so real, mashAllah. This book was a hug, a pep talk, a much needed reminder, it called me out…it did everything. I really enjoyed it alhamdulillah.
assalamu alaikum, i've not read the entirety of this book but it's definitely helped me, with struggling with loss and failure.. i really found it difficult moving forward. subhanAllah alhumdulilah, this book has helped lighten it for me. if you don't see yourself reading this, buy it anyways. do it for the sake of Allah, just as i did. because only a month or so later.. only Allah knew how bad i'd need a read like this.
an absolute gem of a book. one of my favourite reads ever.
i highly recommend this to all muslims AND non-muslims. i know it might sound intimidating to pick up a book that is lead by the values of a different faith but trust me, this book will enrich just anyone in at least one way. i think it‘s also a great way to learn more about the beauty of islam amidst all the brainwashing done by the western media, while taking in wisdoms that could change the way you view life and help you heal.
especially those who are on their spiritual journey, want to get closer to God and/or just learn about how the Quran + Sunnah deal with mental health & down times are at the right place :)
yasmin mogahed just really did it with this one. his book isn‘t just your standard self-help book filled with empty talk and unrealistic advice - it centers our connection to God, to ourselves and encourages us to embrace our humanness. i can’t believe how under-appreciated this one is too; most people know her other work 'reclaim your heart' - and while i loved that one, i must say that i already liked this one better when i was barely 20-ish pages in. her writing improved so much; you can truly feel the tenderness behind her words. just knowing that the author herself struggled and dealt with the topics she writes about makes it so much more impactful and sincere.
i read this on my kindle and was just constantly highlighting; i really want a physical copy of this to fully annotate, re-read and have as a source to look back to.
Healing the Emptiness, quite amazing. Rasa macam nak baca sekali lagi
This is therapy in a book. Everyone is healing from something, and the author has put things into perspective so beautifully that it has made me see things in a different light
(5⭐️) this is one of the best nonfiction books I’ve ever read. Everything was explained so clearly and so beautifully. This book changed my perspective on many things and it talked about so many topics. Every Muslim should read this book, especially if you grew up in a Muslim household where mental health wasn’t taken seriously. I love this book so much
Ten years following the author's debut, "Reclaim your Heart," this book delves further and reflects a different stage of life with suggestions on how we might manage the different challenges in a way that keeps us connected to ourselves and our Maker and the journey we're all on. Lots of practical tips and open discussions on metal health, acknowledging that we need to do more than be patient. Patience is noble, but it is something we endure when circumstances arise and there are also practical things we can proactively do as believers e.g. supplicate for protection from trials, and practical things we can pursue, for instance professional support. The book might feel sightly repetitive in parts, and there are some thoughts that feel as though they haven't been fully explained but I read this with the mindset that this is an a personal thought share, similar to a blog, that's expanded to become a book. Such a book therefore doesn't always need to be formatted like a textbook or a novel to help you sequence one plot to another. It's formatted more like a friend who is imparting advice to you with their thoughts informed by their own knowledge and experience.
if there’s two things yasmin mogahed loves it’s an analogy & the use of repetition. reading this rly felt like a full circle moment as i read reclaim your heart (the author’s og book) when i was in la palma in 2022, one week before i became an official muzzie. overall reclaim your heart was better imo, i remember that book being really enlightening for me but this one re-hashed a lot of the same points and at times i felt like i was being repetitively hit over the head with the message of the book. BUT having said all that it was a nice heart softener for ramadan and not too intense to read (robert fisk im looking at u) so 3 🌟🌟🌟
This book explains about pains and sufferings we feel in our lives. How to diagnose them, how to remove barriers to healing, how to treat our wounds and then how to guard ourself in future. This book is a mixture of religious and psychological concepts. The author beautifully created a relationship between religious thoughts and how our psychology is involved in it. Way of writing is quite simple and impressive and it gives you chills at many points and put you in deep thoughts.
I gravitated towards this book whenever I felt low. I took my time with it, and I’m glad I did. Because everytime I picked up this book, it gave me just what I needed at that time ✨🤍
This book is so peaceful. It feels like the voice of birds and a river in the middle of a forest away from people, or like the sun that hits your face after the rain.
i started reading this to cure the post-RIS emptiness and it was definitely a motivational book. it had lots of helpful reminders and i think its a great beginner islamic book because it helps to dispel so many myths. at first this book felt less practical in nature but i really ended up liking the toolkit chapter and it was a great summary of so many different ways of worship. however, it did feel sort of repetitive with several passages being said again word for word multiple times throughout the book. the metaphors were also sometimes unnecessary
This excerpt from the book resonated so well with me …
“I don’t cringe at the old pictures anymore. The emptiness in my eyes. The pain I walked with. Those are my battle wounds. They prove I’ve been there. I’ve lived. I’ve suffered, yes. But, it didn’t kill me. I survived. I got back up and kept going. Every time. I got back up.”
This is a book I will choose to read every single year. Thank you Yasmin Mogahed.
“This is the help of Allah. Allah does not promise the believer that there will be no storms in this life. These storms will always come. But Allah promises the believer that He will carry them through their storms, if they turn to Him”
I’m sure many of us are very familiar with Yasmin Mogahed’s book Reclaim Your Heart. However, have you heard of her book Healing The Emptiness?
This book stands out to those who are struggling with emptiness or other forms of emotional pain. Yasmin Mogahed’s perspective on pain is captivating as she reframes our understanding of pain and the way to heal. This book prepares us to brave the storm and to treat our wounds on the path closest to Allah.
🍃 “Sometimes when we feel empty, we don’t realise that our soul is crying out. That our heart is starving for God. Instead, we look to distract ourselves with other things, other people, other activities.” - Yasmin Mogahed
Overall, Healing The Emptiness is a thought-provoking book that offers insightful perspectives on how to navigate difficult emotions and find a path towards healing.
While browsing the www.tertib.press website, I came across several good books by Yasmin Mogahed; some of them I have never heard of. If you love listening to Yasmin Mogahed and reading her words, you will certainly love Healing The Emptiness. Although this book may be a bit pricey, the value it provides is definitely worth adding it to your collection.

"Many of us cannot find peace and cannot sleep at night because we carry burdens that are not ours to carry. We carry the burdens of solving every problem, saving everyone we love, fixing everything that's broken around us. But we cannot. We cannot solve or fix or save. Anything. Only God can."
I know, this whole "healing" genre is trending to the point of being annoying, but I do very much recommend Yasmin Mogahed's book. It touches many things that we struggle with and that we need true answers for. Love how she draws from the Quran, Sunnah, as well as Western sources and her personal experiences. The chapters are concise and the quotes are powerful, just like her talks and speeches. A reminder of the fact that we are spiritual beings, no matter what modern life and media and all the noise outside claim.
