I have just found out that I’m going to be a grandma, which might be some of the most exciting news I have ever received. Because this is my own baby about to have a baby, I feel the need to be obnoxiously informed. It’s been a really long time since I was pregnant, so I’m not as “in the know” about being pregnant as I used to be. And obviously, medicine changes with time and advances, which means I need to reeducate myself on the ins and outs of pregnancy. I started with what she should be eating, because that is one thing that she has complete control over. Her situation is a bit more complicated because she has Celiacs, which makes her nutrition that much more important. I was expecting more cookbook in this, however, it is full of useful information about what a pregnant woman should and should not be eating. The author kept it concise and easy to follow, without being preachy or condescending. While there were far fewer recipes than I was hoping for, the ones that are included look amazing. I’m excited to share them with my daughter!
Pregnancy and food safety are two different issues that are often discussed together. Pregnancy can lead to strange cravings, some women want ice, dirt, paper which can mean you’re body is asking for help, however food cravings like pickles in chocolate milk are common and normal. It is so important to know what foods you eat and how they affect your nutrition. Your body needs more protein, carbohydrates, nutrients and fats than normally. Many women refuse to eat extra which can cause medical problems for their bodies and their babies. This book will help you understand micros, macros, healthy eating and gives great recipes. I’m a huge fan of the fruit salsa and the lamb but each recipe is also changeable to your likes. Have fun eating and experimenting with recipes.
This was an okay cookbook for pregnancy. Some of these recipes did not look or sound appetizing to me. The information at the beginning was useful and beneficial to me.
