Adam Bennetts book, Great Change, has forever ‘changed’ my relationship with reading - or more so created my newfound passion.
I am 20 years old and like many my age I am both addicted to my phone and unsure exactly what to do with my life. However, post reading Great Change I have embarrassingly (but gratefully), for the first time, experienced the escapism that books can provide. As well as found a new found interest in transformation within the corporate workforce.
Adam has written a truly thought provoking and insightful novel that challenges conventional ways of thinking and encourages questioning on a business, personal and emotional level. Which lends itself to variety of readers. Whether 30 years deep in a corporate career, new graduate or not studying business at all - this book has something for everyone.
The way in which Adam describes transformation and complex business ideas and discusses them through an empathetic and human lens is incredibly impressive. This is conjunction with his own career, extensive research and anecdotes that flood the book provides a fascinating and active read. Not for a moment was I not contemplating new ideas, questioning my own morals and beliefs and thinking about how I could structure my life differently.
Great change encourages people to seek a big, purposeful and rich life - which I found incredibly moving. Especially from a business book… my cynical ways would never have thought this be possible. However, I have been proved wrong.
Brilliant book - very insightful about how to accelerate change in your company and actually get stuff done! Excellent use of memorable stories, personal experience and tried and tested ways of taking action. I even had a few laughs!!! Super easy to read, in fact I read it in one weekend. I would recommend this to anyone who is leading change in their organisation or working as part of a team whose mission it is to get things done (which really should be all of us!!).
Adam Bennett extends us an insight into the balance between the 'hard' and 'soft' approach that is required to lead large transformation projects. His emphasis on positive ambition, accountability, personal growth, and humour throughout the transformation process makes the book an essential resource for anyone leading major change. Thankfully, Adam doesn't provide a to-do list for change. Instead, he urges leaders to adopt a mindset of transforming themselves and encouraging people around them to embrace change. "Great Change" is not just a compelling read; it's a mentor for transformational leaders.
