Nathaniel Hawthorne was a 19th century American novelist and short story writer. He is seen as a key figure in the development of American literature for his tales of the nation's colonial history.

Shortly after graduating from Bowdoin College, Hathorne changed his name to Hawthorne. Hawthorne anonymously published his first work, a novel titled Fanshawe, in 1828. In 1837, he published Twice-Told Tales and became engaged to painter and illustrator Sophia Peabody the next year. He worked at a Custom House and joined a Transcendentalist Utopian community, before marrying Peabody in 1842. The couple moved to The Old Manse in Concord, Massachusetts, later moving to Salem, the Berkshires, then to The Wayside in Concord. The Scarlet Letter was published in 1850, followed by a succession of other novels. A political appointment took Hawthorne and family to Europe before returning to The Wayside in 1860. Hawthorne died on May 19, 1864, leaving behind his wife and their three children.

Much of Hawthorne's writing centers around New England and many feature moral allegories with a Puritan inspiration. His work is considered part of the Romantic movement and includes novels, short stories, and a biography of his friend, the United States President Franklin Pierce.

Very informative. It's more like a collection of mythology short stories. Also, why does goodreads make this only count as one book!?

This was a really cool box set of different mythologies throughout history from all over the world. I found the Celtic one very interesting, and I feel that it did a good job of explaining all the key figures as well as showing how they evolved over time and how they were affected by other cultures.

The Greek, Native American, and Legends from around the World books in this set were interesting, however they are such deep topics that the little snippets of bigger stories left me a little lost without more information about who certain characters were, and what their stories were. They were still very interesting books and a great introduction to the different mythologies, but you may need to do further research of your own on a certain mythology because some of these barely scratch the surface.

I may be a little biased, but I did particularly love the Norse mythology book. I found that it did a great job explaining all of the key characters and their roles which really helped create the setting and made it easy to understand why certain events were important in some of the stories.

Overall, this box set gives a great, and simplified, easy to read introduction to many different cultures' mythologies without getting overwhelmed with information making it very easy for someone to choose a mythology that particularly interests them making it easier to then go out and do further research on their own.
