A compelling biography of virtuoso, baritone saxophonist Pepper Adams and how his life intersected with some of the greatest poets, writers, painters, and musicians of his time.
This is an interesting biography of one of the lesser-known jazz masters, Pepper Adams. In his last chapter, the author gives an overview of Adams's career and offers explanations as to why that might be.
In his introduction, the author states that it is no longer necessary to present a biography in a strictly chronological manner and so jumps back and forth between various parts of Adams's career. Since I was not previously familiar with his career, I found this a confusing approach and not one that I found enlightening.
Readable, if confusing, bio of Pepper Adams. The author opted not to tell the Pepper Adams' story in a chronological manner, which led to a disjointed read.
