Go Multisport: Add Fun, Challenge & Exploration to Your World

Rate this book
The all-in-one resource and first handbook for multisport athletes with an introduction to the field of multisport and a look at how it came to be and what's next for the sport.

Are you ready to Go Multisport? You can run, you can paddle, you can SUP (stand up paddleboard), you can swim, you can ski, you can climb, you can train, and you can bike. But how can you combine them all together? For ultra-like distances and days at a time? How about climbing, hiking, and packrafting all in one day?

Beyond traditional 5Ks and 10Ks and single sport extreme and endurance events, is the newly evolving field of multisport. Multisport events are usually self-designed and determined. These extreme athletes most often create their own events because they are the first to do these human-powered endurance challenges.

Some examples of multisport athletes

Perfect for those who are seeking to do more--more challenge, more fun--this book provides a history, background, and empowering how-to. You will learn how to walk the edge of a radical new discipline. Also includes gear lists, sample race challenges, training secrets and more.

Hot off the release of her best-selling book, Go Far, endurance and adventure athlete Jennifer Strong McConachie has brought into book form the next phase of her life-altering fitness and endurance philosophy: Multisport.

This book isn’t for the squeamish; it’s for athletes who want to expand their endurance horizons. Multisport as an event is just that: a sport or event that involves more than one sport. And McConachie takes it farther.

In this book, McConachie explains how amateur athletes can focus on one or two core sports and then add on auxiliary sports to transform an ordinary workout into an all-day adventure. McConachie, who grew up competing in triathlons and adventure racing, has evolved the three-sport competition into a quest to sharpen mental acuity, push the envelope of fitness, and, by varying muscle group usage, extend the performance life of the athlete.

First, the book examines the history of the -athon, from the heptathlons of Ancient Greece to the triathlons of modern day. Then, it provides a step-by-step guide on how to develop multisport combinations to suit your adventure and endurance needs. And, finally, the book shares personal stories about pushing and reaching the upper boundaries of human endurance.

Like McConachie’s first book, Go Multisport challenges what we think when we think about the performance of the human body. What we find through McConachie’s riveting tales is a category of athlete who has discovered the ultimate limit of the human body is the human mind. To conquer that is to reach the pinnacle of performance.

Multisport is only now starting to take shape as a category of sport by some of the world’s greatest adventure athletes and world-record setters. If you’ve reached a stage in your athletic career where monitored races designed by others no longer pique your interest, or you’re hungry to pair your adventure skills with local geography, buy this book today!

Jennifer McConachie's book is a must-read for adventure enthusiasts and athletes seeking more challenge (and fun) in their fitness journey. The idea behind multisport is that you blend various activities like running, paddling, swimming, skiing, climbing, and biking.

Jen is thorough! In this book you'll learn how multisport has evolved (if you consider things like the duathlon and heptathlon, multisport has been around for decades!), as well as how to create your own multisport events, from climbing and hiking to packrafting! She also offers *practical advice* on the equipment you’ll need for multisport adventures and training secrets.
