I picked up a copy of this book while glancing through the self help section of the local library. Before I got very far into the book, the author was quite honest about his own mental health struggles. This was partly refreshing and partly a red flag for me. Do I really want to take advice from this person who is still clearly struggling daily in his own journey? More bothersome to me, however, was his clear reliance on his Higher Power. That's wonderful, if that is what gets him through and is what works for him. However, my personal path has led to disillusionment when it comes to matters of religion. I've worked hard to survive all the things that have happened to me, and have often had to rely on myself for strength to get through the day, sometimes while others used religion as a reason to mistreat me or hold me back. Everyone is entitled to believe what they believe, and to find their own peace as best they can. But this particular title was just not a good fit for me from the get-go. Perhaps it will be more appealing to someone else whose journey has been different than mine.

I was having full blown panic attacks at the time that I discovered this book. My doctor prescribed me Xanax. But it's just turned my brain into mush. I don't like pharmaceuticals and was looking for an alternative. The break down of the psycho-physiological response a person goes through during a full blown panic attack is thoroughly explained. The author gives you several was to manage and sometimes eliminate panic attacks altogether. It was my bible for a good 3 months. If you have panic attacks or anxiety I cannot recommend a more appropriate book.
