My husband wrote this (and that's why I haven't given it a star rating), so take my review for what it's worth and then go read somebody else's review. It's set in a fantasy world, but is not epic. It's a pastoral story of the marriage of the son of a conquered ex-nobleman and a farm girl as they rear children and raise horses with the simple and deep magics they draw on in their everyday lives.
