What happens when you get abandoned in a quarantine zone full of people infected with a dangerous disease? Pierce’s team encounters an unlikely threat. The challenges ahead of them will test their physical and mental limits. James and his group find out that the cathedral they considered sanctuary is not so safe after all. Daniel makes a discovery that has him questioning everything he’s known his entire life. As the days go by, Krista loses hope that her husband will ever come back. Heather and her sister are still alive, but the infected are making it difficult to find a way out. With every minute they spend in the city, their likelihood of survival dwindles.
More and more, there’s word of a “purge” of the city being prepared by the military. Can the survivors make it out before it’s too late?
"Boris is my favorite author on Nosleep, he's always killing it with his stories!" "The security guard series is the best one ever!!" "I love the subtle connection between each story." "Like R.L. Stine, but better." "I want to see this book as a Netflix mini-series!" "No one can scare me like Boris."
Both traditionally and self-published, Boris is a prolific writer whose horror novels often find themselves on the #1 bestselling ranks. With the books he has published, he is quickly becoming a big name in the horror community.
His stories have been narrated by famous YouTube and podcast narrators, including MrCreepypasta, CreepsMcPasta, DrCreepen, etc. His book, Tales of a Security Guard, is currently in the works to become a short film.
3.5 rounded up. This one isn't as strong as the first 2 installments in the series. I might be slightly unfair because there's one zombpoc trope that I'm really super tired of in this one. Considering where things seem to be heading, I trust that Bacic has something up his sleeve that's going to redeem that in the next installment/s.
What's up with the s💩💩t?!? Literally ... just why?!? What kinda twisted f**k writes something like that into their story?!? So vile and ... for what purpose?!? A FULL star off for that! Prob'ly should be two stars off, but I really liked everything else about this one.
Book 3 and I'm fully invested in this series. Each character arc is unique but also understandable. I'm sure these are exactly all the ways human beings would behave during a zombie apocalypse. Especially Ben, who gave me nightmares.
This series continues to be a ride! I appreciated the pacing of this one and enjoyed the action as each character encounters more of the infected and they navigate away from their home base. With the exception of Daniel at the lab and Krista at home tending to her son. That being said, these two have some obstacles in their location to overcome. We also start to see some of our main characters meeting up outside as they move to the military checkpoint.
Speaking of that, how did people who are not infected not notice these huge walls around the city? I mean, I get that running and defending yourself from flesh eating zombies covered in sh*t does come first. But really? I feel like that would be one thing I'd notice! I mean that right there has me saying "hmm." Something shady going on there.
The timeline of our characters meeting seems a bit off to me too. Unless I'm getting their locations and individual timelines wrong...
I'm hoping in book 4 we get a bit more to the "why" of this situation. At the half-way point, I feel like it needs to start coming together.
“You don’t need to be scared,” he whispered into her ear.
Survivors working their way closer to the checkpoints are about to begin colliding as their stories begin to entwine. As the days bleed into nights since the outbreak started, Krista has waited for her husband Eric to return. With no signs he'll ever be coming home, she's tasked with keeping their son Nelson alive as he begins transitioning into the monster with bloodshot eyes. As he lurks and stares from random places in the house, she thought she was safe to take a nap until she wakes to him growling and snarling over her. Chasing her through the house, she manages to overpower her young son and stuff him into a locked closet. Unsure what to do, she breaks down into sobs as she grieves both her husband and now her son. Daniel and Melissa are creating a tighter bond as they make further discoveries through a brain biopsy of Richard, where they discover hundreds of parasites all moving in the tissue. With anxiety and fears running higher they slept together to help blow off some of the pent up emotions. Trapped in an infested hospital, they know HQ isn't coming to save them, instead they fully understand their time is quickly slipping away.
“I want in. Safe. I want in,” his raspy, muffled voice came from the other side of the door.
Taking shelter in the cathedral pushes Angela, James and Ricky almost apart as they disagree with their next moves. Eager to move and make it to the checkpoints, Angela is resentful at the thought of spending even a single night sleeping there. Ricky, young and exhausted, wants nothing more than to fuel up on the pew for a few days. Caught in the middle, James pushes towards Angela believing she can help keep him safe. This is when Ben makes it into the cathedral and his true colors begin shining even more. Resentful at anyone who disagrees with his survival methods, he feels no remorse for leaving his wife Melissa amongst the dead. When anxiety rose when one of the people shifted, somebody opened the door and allowed the monsters to pour inside, slaying everyone but a few. With the Priest, James, Ricky and Angela almost safely behind the tunnel doors, they allowed Ben inside who quickly denied access to the remaining people running for their lives. Watching the. Be torn to shreds, everyone understands the red eyes may not be the most deadly. Unbeknownst to them, Ben had already had an encounter with Heather where his devious mind has ideas for her. Luckily, she managed to run and put a safe distance between the two of them as she tries to keep her sister safe. Team Alpha is slowly dissolving as they grieve the death of Murphy from the schoolhouse. Seeing Captain Reynolds become more violent and trigger happy the remaining members; Shepherd, Lincoln and Pierce know their unity is soon to be gone. When they finally breach the hospital, Pierce mistook doctor Kidnar for an infected and shot him in the stomach. Confronted by Reynolds, things are about to become far more interested as the captain and the doctor seemingly knows one another.
I now know for sure what we’re dealing with. We fucked up. You need to leave the city right away.
I've been giving a commentary. But not an actual review. This zombie series has various pov's: Krista - A mom whose 5 year old son has changed. Krista was left alone by her husband who went to get help for their son. Pierce - A soldier returning to the town that holds bad memories for a deceiving mission. Ben - A smug, smarmy pos who would sacrifice his own mom to get over. Once there are no laws in place a lot of Bens would emerge. Dan - A scientist who might hold the key. Heather - A young woman who has ventured out into the zombie infested streets with her autistic young sister Abby. James - A young man who joins up with other survivors and like everyone else is trying to stay alive. I have a feeling all the survivors will meet up at some point. Two already have. There are zombie chase scenes and a little character development. A few of the characters are slightly fleshed out. All in all a solid zombie series.
Heather has to contend with her difficult sister, the infected and Ben whose intentions are malign. Somehow she is coping. Daniel is attracted to his colleague Melissa but has to protect them from the infected within the premises. Pierce and his team's quest to find the doctor and his research, is fraught with danger as the infected are getting more maniacal and difficult to control. Krista has to protect her sick son but has he also become one of the infected? The whole town is in danger of being quarantined. The author highlights the anguish and predatory characteristics of the characters as well as the darkness surrounding the town. Scary.
Not as good as books 1 and 2. The scientists figured out what’s causing the outbreak, but we don’t get to know. Ben is the worst. I’m also wondering if the older sister (I forget her name, unfortunately) would just be honest with her autistic little sister about what’s going on, wouldn’t that make things so much easier for her, rather than coddling her and creating lies that only end up causing frustration for everyone?
I’m listening to the audiobooks, and since the next one isn’t available yet, I’ll pick this back up when it comes out. But after this one, I’m in no rush.
There is a real sense of being trapped in this book with action closing in around you. There was one character that I really came to dislike in this book. My surprise at the military unit increased including as to the way they behave, their kit and their tactics - it seemed so very unusual (and not in a good way) as compared to other depictions I've experienced in the past. Still enjoyable and ends on a bit of a cliffhanger.
Pierce and his team are in the infected zone trying to rescue a doctor . The other survivors are making discoveries about the outbreak. What caused it? Can they trust the people they are with? Will they be rescued, or will the town be destroyed? Fast paced tale with great characters.
The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because I’m super confused about the timing. Some characters fell asleep for days, some only one day, then they run into each other and I’m like what timeline is everybody on? But the story is great! Could be more clearer descriptive writing but i really like the story!!!
I just think the story is moving slowly but it is still interesting. Getting the full version of the story is also cool. I’m still interested to see where this goes even if I feel the book is short. Good thing the rest of the books are out or I’d be disappointed .
So many stupid character decisions in this one, the virus- oh wait sorry “bAcTeRiA” has been completely unexplained and I’m so confused about how people become “infected” when apparently everyone has this bacteria in them??? Is this a biological attack?? This series better start explaining wtf this is because I’m TIRED
Book 3 is a very good follow up for the other books. The cliffhanger ending is absolutely what makes me head over to get the next book. Mr Bacic, you most certainly are able to write zombie novels!
I just can't put these books down . Fast paced and bloody . Characters you will love and some you hate and can't wait to see did a horrible death. Definitely recommend this series.
As the series continues all is not what it seems. Many of the characters that are struggling with the infected "loonies" are now having to also deal with surviving people and agencies whose only concerns are their own agendas.
I'm definitely enjoying this series.I'm going straight onto the next book. The ending of this one was completely different but again I won't say what's different. Out will really spoil the surprise for readers.
Boris is the best horror writer that I have read. This is a great story with a great cast of characters. Not your normal zombie story. I recommend reading this to all that love fiction and gore. Can't wait to start the next book.
This book moved faster than the last book! This one also seemed short but was full of action! I still don’t get how you can build a wall and no one notice until it’s complete!? Totally doesn’t make sense
It was fun seeing our main characters paths intertwine. And that ending wtf. Now I’m not sure if I want to continue with the audio or if I want to just get the ebooks so I can keep the story going without waiting til October!
By the time Abby and Heather stopped running, they were both out of breath. They had run inside a laundromat to avoid the red-eyed people from the restaurant.
