Rate this book
Sequel to Dreams Come True.

Three years after making their dreams come true, James and Payne are happily committed and living in New York. But just as they're about to embark on a special weekend, their world turns upside down when Jamie's mother calls to say that his sister and her husband have been killed in a horrific accident.

Helping Jamie’s mother with funeral plans and adjusting to the reality that they are now the legal guardians of Jamie's three-month-old niece would be hard enough, but Payne and Jamie must also deal with Jamie's alcoholic father, Russ. If Payne and Jamie want to move forward as a family, they’ll have to learn to deal with old pain, fresh grief, and new responsibilities.

This was the sequel to Dreams Come True and part of me thinks that Payne and Jamie's story would have been better left alone. It wasn't that the author ruined the main characters' relationship by giving them uncalled for relationship problems. It was just the opposite.

Jamie's sister dies and and the story takes place while funeral arrangements are being made and whatnot. There's something that totally overshadowed the plot though...

Payne: Jamie, you are my heart and the best thing ever and I love you and would bathe in your dirty bath water because you are so amazing and did I mention that I love you.

Jamie: I love you too, Payne and even though I've said it 52 times in the last 15 minutes, I want to tell you again just in case you forgot because you are always there for me and we love each other so so much.

And then after saying how much they loved each other, Payne and Jamie would think about how much they loved each other.

Now, I usually like the sugary sweet stuff but this was over the top even for me. I wanted to like this story more than I did. The idea of it was good and I was almost sad about the sister dying but the excessive declarations of love and devotion by the main characters ruined the story for me. This was not Lisa Marie Davis' best.

If you've never read this author before I suggest starting with Loving Lucas.

This is the sequel to Dream Come True and James and Pay and enjoying their happy lives together when tragedy strikes. Yikes! Too sad for my tastes. The first book was so light and fluffy that this book hit me like a freight train. Can't recommend.

There is a trending in m/m books that basically is to kill a couple or a relative and the gay couple or MC has to take care of the children. This bother me a lot although is almost historical reparation from all the "kill the gay" in mainstream media in the past 5 decades or more. There are another ways of a couple get a baby anyways the story 1 is way better than this and i give 2 star to it, but is nice to see Payne and Jamie as a established couple.

This is the sequel to Dreams Come True which we reviewed here. Three years have passed, Jamie and Payne are living happily in their new lives and Jamie’s sister has had a baby. They are notified that she is killed in a car crash along with her husband, leaving Jamie and Payne as guardians of the baby along with dealing with the stress and pain of their deaths.

This book definitely falls into high melodrama mode. Everyone is devastated by the death of the couple, which I can understand, but the book focuses on the absolute grief of the family, how they can’t seem to function, or the dysfunction in their family, as since Jamie’s father’s rejection of him and Payne, he seems to have turned to alcohol, has moved out of the family home and doesn’t even show up to deal with the funeral arrangements, leaving Payne to save the day by confronting the man and making him see reason.

There is little development of the romantic relationship here. They are living happily ever after and there is no doubt that will continue, granted, with the added stress of an instant baby, but it never a bone of contention for the couple. The main conflict revolves around the family crumbling under the weight of their grief and perhaps the healing that begins thanks to Payne. Many may find the continual depiction of grief rather overwhelming and look for the story to move forward beyond that, it felt a bit one-note for me and never really moved anything forward, except perhaps the relationship between Jamie and his father somewhat.

This is such a moving book. It takes place in the time James (now is often called Jamie) and Payne have to bury Ava and Matt who were just killed by a drunk driver. The dead couple left them Aubrey, their 3-month baby as her legal guardians, so they have to deal with the baby. They also have to deal with Russ, James' bigot father. That Ava and Matt were killed by a drunk driver makes it very difficult for James and Payne to deal with the father when they find that Russ is an alcoholic who spends his time being drunk.

This is more like an update--albeit a sad one--on the characters we knew from the previous book. While there are a couple of sex scenes, the emphasis is on the strength of James and Payne's love in the time of sorrow. It cannot be read independently without first reading Dreams come true. I suggest you read them back-to-back. I felt so emotional reading this book because Ava was such an important character in the first book. After all, how often do you read stories where one of the characters you love die?

Where I thought the first part of the series was okay, this one... It annoyed me to a degree. I had to skim through some "I love you SO MUCH"-scenes, because it began to seem half of the book was filled with them.

What came to my mind towards the end of the book was, that this book had been MUCH more believable and MUCH less annoying with the sappy stuff if the main couple had been females. A lesbian couple I could see doing this sort of stuff (being overly emotional ALL the time), but two men...not so much.

Tragedy strikes and Payne and Jamie find themselves dealing with painful issues from the past and a very different future from what they have envisioned. They provide solace, comfort and love to each other when the unthinkable happens and they are now responsible for their niece and having to deal with the devastating loss of family and friends. I hope there will be more to their story.

This had potential, but it was more of internal monologues and not much dialogue. It should have invoked sadness and compassion with Jamie's sister dying...it didn't. I didn't care. One good thing about this book was that it was short.

What a tear jearker! I loved that Payne will always ber there for Jamie. It was really sad that they became parents the way they did, but I think it was great that Ava and Matt picked them for Aubreys legal guardians. Wonderful writing.

i like the characters, but as a woman reading mm books, i always get a little upset when the author kills a female relative to give the couple the oportunity to become parents.
