Country No 107 in my World Reading Quest - Andorra
Book Background: Published in 1901. I can find NO descriptions or reviews of the story. Only 1 person has read it on Goodreads and there is no review.
So I am on my own reviewing this book. Hope I get it right. 😉
Four men residing in New York are conversing and all are bored to tears. They seem to have done everything there is to do in life.
They are: _ Major John Armin-once an officer in the British army _ Lindsay Davenport-an American actor _ Robert Belsham-a briefless lawyer with little money _ Francis Ottiwell-young, rich and handsome
Ottiwell is the first to speak up. He says he seeks ADVENTURE!
Armin has the answer. He has a plan that will allow them to step into the Middle Ages! There is a country where the people are 1000 years behind the time. and it is... Andorra.
No one had heard of it. Even my husband thought I was talking about a fictional country. But it is real, a small republic wedged between Spain and France. Armin convinces two of them: Belsham and Ottiwell to accompany him. Their crazy idea is to stage a revolution and make Ottiwell the king.
Turns out some Frenchman is planning a revolution, and Ottiwell does become KIng. He also falls in love.
Story is not too complicated and I thought cleverly conceived. I read it in paperback form. The Queen of Kindle (me) had to read a book to enjoy this story.
BTW, be glad to mail the first requestor the copy if interested!!
