The author is against the occult in general and yet in spite (because?) of this she gathers every bit of trivia and every possible link between symbols in an astounding manner that is very impressive.

I must admit, I started to read it and gave up. I will try to pick it up again and review.

This is quite a polarizing book. The author, Cathy Burns, is evidently against virtually all forms of spirituality and spiritual symbolism except that of the Bible; however, she truly means well in what she sought to illuminate which is the New Age agenda. Above all else, Burns has certainly put in many hours researching prominent and relevant material, authors and occult specialists. It's actually quite incredible and succinct. There are some generalizations that I wish she would finetune but all in all it this book was an impressive endeavor on her part. You will learn a lot, and her biases come from a solid moral foundation, albeit imperfect.

In the end, the emphasis on objects, symbols and invocation is a recipe for disaster. If you are truly spiritual and "with it" so to speak, then you do not need to be dependent on these things. There is nothing wrong with recognizing the cultural beauty of these symbols in what they represent from bygone cultures, but it's not to be made into a habit of worship, that is foolish. Allow your heart to communicate and use you reasoning to help navigate your heart. Good beings will find you if you are good, and the needy will find you if you so wish to spread goodwill.

This book is definetly needed by those who need to know what to stay away from and what they mean. It is not very long and does a good job illustrating everything. A huge eye-opener. Oh, and to people who know this and think they are fine; you might want to read it to see what the reasearch says.
